Spoilers for Marineford
Long post with lots of yapping.
Man, I have a lot of thoughts regarding Ace's death.
His death is upsetting not becuase he dies but how he dies. It is established that Ace is hard headed and will go after anyone that insults Whitebeard. I get that. BUT, you would think after witnessing everything Whitebeard and his crew as well Luffy sacrificed to save him that, FOR ONCE, Ace would swallow his pride and just run. BUT NO, he has to be an idiot, turn around and try to fight an ADMIRAL over what is essentially a yo daddy joke. It's so frusterating. I am also frusterated by how some of the characters react to Ace's actions.
Obviously, Akainu killed Ace so it makes sense that everyone's anger is directed towards him. But, the fact that no one ever acknowledges how Ace's played a role in his own death is irritating. The fact that no one shows any sort of disbelief or frusteration over Ace throwing away their sacrifices is very irritating. I mean with Luffy I can understand. He is also very hardheaded; I doubt he would see any issue with Ace's actions. With the Whitebeard pirates, I would think it makes sense for some of them to show mixed feelings on the matter. You can love someone with all your heart and still be hurt by their self-destructive behaviors.
All of this made it very hard for me to feel sad about Ace himself dying. I felt bad for Luffy after all that he went through to save his brother. It was Luffy's utter dispair that made me feel sad.
Overall, I don't hate Portgas. D. Ace. I do feel like the story didn't spend enough spend time with him prior to his death to get attached to him. For context, I've only read the manga so I haven't seen any of the anime only scenes of Ace in Alabasta. But, he's a cool dude with a nice design and interesting devil fruit. I would have loved to see more of him in the story. I just wish that his death was done differently.
Was a lil woozy after the christmas celebrations so just doodlin some carols to get back into the flow of things.
