i don't really get how harwin won over criston in terms of quality of life.
criston, born a dornish stewards son, uses his talents to rise up in the world of knights and participates in many tourneys . after winning a fight with a prince, he is given a position in the kings guard. as a sworn celibate, he is put into an uncomfortable position when the crown princess attempts to have sex with him. he refuses at first, but they end up sleeping together- despite his protests- anyways. i guess the writers didn't learn anything from game of thrones and their questionable views on consent. he then later suggests that they marry and run away together so that he can preserve his honour. she tells him that he can remain a side piece, but that nothing will ever properly come of their relationship. not wanting that life, criston makes the decision to walk away. eventually the guilt over breaking his celibacy vows pushes him to attempt suicide. the queen catches him right before he stabs himself, and decides to appoint him to position of her sworn protector and shield. he forms a close bond with her and becomes like a second (or, well, a first considering viserys didnt do anything) father to her sons. he stays loyally by her side and trains her children in arms.
harwin, on the other hand, is born the son of the lord of harrenhal. being the first born male, he is heir to his homelands and set to inherit significant wealth. when we first meet him, he seems to have an interest in the princess. in a time jump, we find out that they have been sleeping together for many years and that they also have two sons. their children take after him and are viewed as obvious bastards by pretty much everyone but his boys (the catch on eventually). he has to watch another man raise his children while pretending to be nothing more than their trainer. his father is ashamed of the way he looks down upon low born people that have worked for the titles that he was handed at birth. at almost forty, he is still unmarried, depite being heir to a significant position. his younger brother murders him and his father in a brutal and horrific manner. he dies knowing that he'll never be able to tell his kids that he's their biological dad.
how on earth did criston miss out by not staying with rhaenerya???
Daemon never respected nor loved anyone but himself period.
Trigger Warnings; grooming, manipulation, physical abuse, forced pregnancy, abuse, cheating, stillbirth, miscarriage.
What is actually astounding is fans thinking Daemon ever loved and respected Aemma.
Like, guys. While she was being forcibly impregnated for Viserys' dreams of a son, suffering through multiple pregnancies, miscarriages and stillbirths, he was advocating for himself to be made heir. When she died in childbirth and her son a while after her, he was out partying and joking about the "heir for a day". He then proceeded to groom, manipulate and almost ruin her only daughter's reputation, and after marrying Rhaenyra, he physically abused her (only show, season 1 episode 10) and very probably cheated on her (in the book Fire and Blood).
Daemon never respected nor loved Aemma. (Neither did he love Rhaenyra.)

Tell me you don’t understand the medieval setting without telling me you don’t understand the medieval setting
BT: omg consistent laws on who gets power is basically supporting slavery!
At this point I can only laugh
If you must know why keeping consistent laws around power transfers are important, I’ll draw a little comparison. Imagine if the US president decided that Joe Shmo from Canada will be the next US president without any election. That’s basically what Viserys did in medieval terms. Does it look weird to modern people? Yeah, but when you actually put yourself in that time frame you understand why having consistent laws creates stability and avoids war. Like how the inconsistent handoff of power from Viserys to his kids caused war!
Can we talk about how:
Mysaria never got pregnant by Daemon and miscarried?
We never saw Alicent in labour despite of the fact that she's a child bride in a marriage she had no say in?
Laena DIDN'T bear a deformed son that would shortly afterwards die and drive her to despair? Or that we didn't see her want to ride Vhagar one last time and dying on her way there and Daemon carrying her dead body back to bed?
Rhaena and Baela barely got consoled while we get endless scenes of Jace and Luke being attended to?
We didn't get to see Alicent crown Helaena at the coronation before Rhaenys unceremoniously interrupts them? The making of the Queen that captured the hearts of the smallfolk so much that her suffering caused the largest uprising in King's Landing?
Are we going to talk about how all that TOOK from all these female characters to give to a select few (e.g Rhaenyra) so as to market these grey female characters as being more 'sympthetic' than other female characters whose stories were so badly represented or in some cases utterly disregarded and not followed upon (like Rhaena and Baela)?
Peace out.
Just wanna say this cause I’ve been seeing it around. This is my opinion, I may not have the same opinion as yours but I ask you respect it.
Rhaenyra and Dany are not alike. They are not the same. They will never be the same.
Rhaenyra could never do what Dany did. She wouldn’t survive that. Dany is her own storm in herself, she suffered through a lot and still had hope for a better tomorrow. Rhaenyra could never. I don’t like when people compare these two because you can’t compare Dany to Rhaenyra.
Dany is what a true Targaryen should be like. She’s a true ruler in her own right. She rules with justice and fights for her people. She locked away her own children when she released that they had killed her citizens baby. She didn’t like it, but she has no choice. Dany didn’t grow up with the same privilege Rhaenyra did, nor did she have the support and options to gain control that Rhaenyra did.
No, Dany gained loyalty all on her own. She inspired hope in her people and they in return had faith in her rule. Dany built herself from the ground up. She struggled and fought for her right.
Luke and Jaehaerys watching both their families hesitating to fight each other even after their deaths:
Tell me I’m not the only one who's been thinking this
Rhaenyra telling that old lady in the tent in the episode 3 how she is going to change the system and than for the next half of season decided to do nothing to change a said system is very peak your average politican of her.
Mainly a Hotd blog but I also enjoy talking about Asoiaf and Aot. Book!Alicent and Criston slander is not permitted here. 19
