Me: Okay. *Goes to bookshelf and pulls out my Harry Potter and Doctor Who cookbooks* 

He has had many excellent hairstyles but the long red hair is definitely my favorite. It looks so soft :) 

I also like how they’re all going under the backdrop like it’s their blanket fort, hehe.

Gerard is such a diva I just love him. 

This post is what caused me to put this book on my Christmas list this year. I got it and I’m not super far in yet (I’m in Chapter 5, shortly after the bit with Borusa, actually) but it is entirely as fun as advertised so far! :) 

Honestly I just get so excited whenever they go to Gallifrey, despite the Doctor and all intergalactic tour guides’ apparent consensus that it is a hopelessly dull place. But it’s a place replete with backstory and that’s why I love it. I have an academy-era fic I’ve been working on and I’m already thinking how I’m going to have to revise my portrayal of Borusa based on what I’ve learned in this book. 

And, of course, it does have that distinctive Douglas Adams tone. My dad was surprised to learn that Adams had written for Doctor Who, actually, so that was a fun bit of knowledge to impart. Very fun book :)

Happy Tumblr Prom 2021!!! I had a fun time doing a fancy photoshoot for @internet-prom-2021​ today; it was a good chance to dig out my old formalwear, including my actual junior prom dress, the suit I assembled for my Oswald Cobblepot Halloween costume in 2018, and my fairy wings from a different Halloween, because this is Tumblr prom, and this time I’m wearing fairy wings. Oh, and what would a formal photoshoot be without a sword? :)

Fancy jump shot + cool shadow :) I love how my skirt looks like flower petals here, even if my head got cut off in the mirror, lol. 

Also fun fact, the tie knot I used is called “the eldredge knot” (not to be confused with “eldritch” haha), and it’s also one of the knots Noam uses in The Guards Themselves--in Back in the Ring specifically--which may have had some influence on my choice of tie knot, haha. And while we’re doing closeups, here’s a closer look at my makeup (for my second photoshoot in my dress, which actually shows up first in this post; I did just the eyeliner, mascara, and a lighter lipstick for my pictures in the suit):

I tried to do a rainbow ombre thing with my eyeshadow but I maaay have taken up a bit too much space with the purple part, which I suppose is very on brand for me. It’s been forever since I put makeup on, but it is kinda fun to play around with :) 

And here’s a closeup where you can see my hair a bit better, too :) I did a whole braid thing but it didn’t show up a ton in most of the pictures. 

Oh, and here’s an artsy thing I did where I put my travelling selfie photoshoot mirror on the ground and took a selfie looking up at myself, for artistic reasons.

My gosh, these are beautiful. The color and the lighting are so delicate and the water is just glowing. I love how faint the ships coming through the fog are. Also boats are beautiful in general and this captures that, plus the water looks like candy in some of these. Lovely <3

So. Guess I was wrong... Well, I mean, if there was going to be a Penguin spinoff, I suppose it wouldn’t take that long to grow it back out.

Wow, Mars!? I know that’s kind of bad but it’s also kind of awesome. 

We live a mile south of the MN/IA border (we live in Iowa but the nearest town is in Minnesota, just 6 miles north), and this is not my first -20F day. It’s a funny thing, stepping outside when it’s this cold; I find it feels as though it’s wet, not because of any moisture, but just because it’s so cold that my body reads it as wet from the drastic temperature drop. 

But, back to that exciting part about Mars. 

I’ve often compared putting on all the pieces of my winter gear to putting on a space suit, and I’m not going to lie, I sometimes go full mental role play when it’s this cold and I’m going out to feed animals in the barn. Like, I start mentally referring to the house as the exploratory base and my car as the rover and I’ll say I’m going out on a solo surface mission and whatnot; if my scarf slips off my face, I have a helmet breach, and so on. (I could probably pick more accurate scientific space terms, especially after reading the Martian, but it’s usually just in my head so I don’t typically pay too much attention to accuracy). Apparently, I never realized how semi-accurate I was actually being! 

So wait, wait though. Are you actually telling me that the winter gear currently in my possession--knee-length down coat rated to ~ -20F, wool scarf, felt-lined wool mittens, wool hat, snow boots, snow pants, etc... Is what you’re saying that with the clothing I currently own, I could potentially walk around on the surface of Mars without actually needing a space suit?? I mean, I guess there are also other factors, like oxygen and pressure and things, but I’m suddenly feeling like a patched together homemade spacesuit made from the winter gear I already have and like maybe a scuba diving tank or something is way more viable than I had previously considered. It’s a good thing I don’t have any way of quickly transporting myself to Mars right now or the high level of childish space energy currently flooding me might make me foolish enough to try it. 

Also I just had this moment where I thought, “it’s like I’m in space!” and then remembered that the earth actually is a planet that is in space, so, technically... I am in space. So, in conclusion, stay warm, my fellow space travellers, and may your space suits/winter gear serve you well :)

It’s 19-20 F (-7 C) whole-ass degrees at the Larsen Ice Shelf in Antartica.  

Google says it’s -7 F (-22 C) in St. Paul, MN.

Congratulate it’s nearly 30 degrees warmer in antartica rn, stay toasty and be real smug about living through this.
