My Thoughts On Evan’s Actions In Dear Evan Hansen

Spoiler Warning For Dear Evan Hansen

I’m personally sympathizer for Evan Hansen. I understand why he acted the way he did and lied, even though I don’t agree with actions.

I know most people are mad at Evan for lying about Connor. What Evan did was wrong, it’s wrong to give a family false hope about their son who they had just lost to suicide. It’s wrong to lie about someone who passed away.

You can say “I would never do that, ever.” but remember Evan Hansen isn’t you.

Evan’s a neurodivergent, anxious, depressed, suicidal, lonely kid, he’s also scared of public speeches and talking to others in general.

He didn’t have any friends either. Even Jared only thought of Evan as a “family friend”.

So when he talked to Connor, even though it was very brief, and Connor shouted at him, when Connor signed his cast he might’ve thought they were friends. So losing one of the only people who somewhat treated him as a friend, hurt him so much.

He didn’t want to lie about Connor. When he was first given the letter by Connor’s parents, he wanted to tell them the truth.

But he couldn’t. He was anxious and nervous so he panicked, as a result he lied out of panic.

He didn’t want to hurt Connor’s parents by lying to them, he didn’t mean to or want to lie to them, but he lied out of panic.

He didn’t want to hurt them even more by telling them the truth, that their son didn’t write anyone a letter or any note before committing suicide.

When Connor’s family asked him about Connor and Evan’s friendship, he didn’t want to lie but he didn’t want to upset them any further. That’s why he lied.

Also, having a fake, imaginary, overly romanticized friendship with someone, even if that person had passed away, made him feel less lonely and alone. Evan never had a close friend and neither did Connor, he didn’t want to tell Connor’s parents, Connor didn’t have any true friends and him and Connor weren’t really friends. He didn’t want Connor’s parents to become even more sad by telling them Connor wasn’t really friends with anyone and was all alone.

Evan didn’t want to lie while giving his speech about Connor either. But he was once again anxious and nervous so he panicked and lied out of panic. This time he had so many people in front of him and cameras surrounding him, he didn’t want to upset so many people by telling the truth so he lied, hoping that would make things better.

The situation was like a double ended sword for Evan. Lying to people would be wrong, and he knew that, but it wouldn’t hurt them as much if he told them the truth, and if they didn’t found out the truth they wouldn’t be as devastated.

I’m not defending Evan’s actions, what he did was wrong. I’m not saying being a neurodivergent, anxious, depressed, suicidal, lonely kid is an excuse for his actions.

But when you think about all this from Evan’s perspective there are explanations for his lies.

I’m just saying, Evan didn’t want to hurt people, but he didn’t really know how to help them so he thought lying would work, and it worked until it didn’t.

In the end, Evan realized his mistakes and owned up for them, he didn’t make excuses for them, he apologized and tried to make things better even though the damage had already been done, he tried his best to make things better.

Good Omens Headcanon: How Crowley Became A Demon

We don’t know much about Crowley when he was angel. He didn’t mean to fall he just “sauntered vaguely downwards”. He hung around with the wrong people, “with Lucifer and the guys” and asked too many questions.

I’m gonna be focusing on him hanging around with the wrong people, specifically with Lucifer.

What if, when Crowley was an angel, he fell in love with Lucifer.

When I say “fell in love” I don’t mean actually falling in love with him, not the true love he felt for Aziraphale. Crowley might’ve had a teenager-like crush on Lucifer.

We don’t know how Lucifer canonically looks in the show, he might’ve been one of the most beautiful, handsome creatures ever.

Lucifer could’ve tricked Crowley to become a devil. Lucifer might’ve seduced him in a way. Lucifer could’ve said “You’re an Angel, I’m a Demon, this won’t work. But if you also become a demon we could be together.”

Crowley refused it at first. He wanted to be with Lucifer but he wasn’t ready to give up being an Angel.

It started off with small things. For example Lucifer could’ve made Crowley to believe the duties heaven gave him was boring and he could just lie about it. He might’ve told him he could lie all the time in hell, not having to do boring tasks.

But small things snowball into big things.

Overtime Crowley spending more time Lucifer and Lucifer messing with his mind, making him questioning everything about heaven causing him to fall, sorry I mean “sauntering vaguely downwards”.

We don’t know if Crowley hated becoming a demon but if he did have an adolescent crush on Lucifer, even though he didn’t mean to fall he might’ve been relieved to become a demon. He would’ve thought he had a chance with Lucifer. But when he went to Lucifer, Lucifer just told him “I just tricked you into becoming one of us, I never loved you.” breaking Crowley’s heart.

Kinda like a good girl falling in love with the bad boy but when she becomes a bad girl the bad boy leaves her. (In this scenario Crowley is the good girl and Lucifer is the bad boy.)

When he first met Aziraphale, he might’ve even thought about tricking him to become a demon like he once was. But when Aziraphale put his wing over him that made him change his mind.

Because when they first met it was time for the first rain. They didn’t know it if would rain holy water and the first rain was probably the holiest, it might’ve rained holy water. So Aziraphale covering Crowley with his wing, from Crowley’s POV would be Aziraphale protecting him.

He might’ve thought “This random Angel that I just met decided to protect me, I should leave him as an Angel.”

And/Or he might’ve become friends with Aziraphale to protect him from Lucifer. To make sure no more innocent angels like he once was fall because of getting tricked by a demon.

Credit to this beautiful animatic (that made me cry) for the idea:

Crowley and His Plants

Not gonna lie, Crowley taking his anger out on his plants instead of Aziraphale is high-key very wholesome and cute.
