251024. Amused to death.
It’s that time again! I recently passed another crazy milestone and I just wanted to show my appreciation for all the support that my blog continues to get by giving a little something back <3
I have done many giveaways before, and usually I have to save up for weeks so that I can afford to buy the items for them. This time, I was lucky enough to stumble across ponyohouse.com and they kindly offered to provide me with these awesome Studio Ghibli figures in return for a simple mention here. In my mind, it’s a win/win situation. I get to provide you with more free Ghibli goodies, and it means I don’t have to do without food, hehe. ^__^ I got to pick the items myself from Ponyo House and it was so difficult to choose. They have so many super adorable Studio Ghibli items - in fact, the whole store is dedicated to Ghibli. I hope you are happy with what I picked. I wanted to choose everything, lol. I often get messages and comments when I do giveaways, asking where people can find the items from the giveaway. Well this time, you not only know where to go, but Ponyo House have also provided us with a discount code that we can use to get 10% off, which is “OHTOTORO”. Anyway, the winner of the giveaway will get ALL THREE of the amazing figures shown above! I am so jealous, as they’re sitting on my cabiinette and I’d love to be able own them myself one day!
You must be following oh-totoro - As I want the prize to go to one of my followers.

HIDEO KOJIMA INDUCTED INTO THE AIAS HALL OF FAME AT THE 19TH D.I.C.E. AWARDS CEREMONY
Film Director, Screenwriter, Producer, and Novelist Guillermo del Toro Presents Award
Los Angeles – January 5, 2016 – The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences is thrilled to induct Hideo Kojima, world-renowned game creator and auteur, as the 21st member to its Hall of Fame. Kojima is recognized for the best-selling Metal Gear series, widely considered the father of the stealth game genre, and credited with innovating story-telling and cinematic presentation in video games at large. The
Metal Gear Solid series has received numerous D.I.C.E. Awards nominations throughout the years.
The 2015 Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Kojima during the 19th D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas by film director, screenwriter, producer and novelist Guillermo del Toro.
“Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,” said Martin Rae, president, Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. “As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E. Summit stage.”
Kojima began his career in videogames in 1986 as a designer and planner for Konami’s MSX home computer division. He set the trend for stealth action games with Metal Gear and pushed the boundaries of video game storytelling, cinematic cut scenes, and mature content with Snatcher. In 1990, Kojima was involved in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which gave the player more abilities, such as crouching, crawling, distracting guards, and using radar –all further developing the stealth game genre. With the release of Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation in 1998, Kojima became a video game living legend internationally. The game was the first in the series to port a cinematic feel through 3D graphics and voice acting.
Kojima went on to create several sequels that continue to amaze players today, including: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty; the 2004 remake for the Game Cube, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes; Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the Playstation 2; then Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. He also served as producer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and as a writer, director and producer of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. At the 2013 Game Developers Conference, Kojima announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain would be his final Metal Gear work.
Among the numerous career accolades, in 2002 Kojima was chosen as one of Newsweek magazine’s ten most influential people in its special “Who’s Next” cover story, and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the “Game Developers Choice Awards” in 2009. In April 2011, he became Vice President of Konami Digital Entertainment, and unveiled an innovative gaming technology, “transfarring,” which allowed gamers to transfer their gaming data from the PS3 to PSP and, therefore, letting gamers bring their game anywhere.
The AIAS Hall of Fame honor is bestowed on game creators who have been instrumental in the development of highly influential games and moving a particular genre forward. These individuals demonstrate the highest level of creativity and innovation, resulting in significant product influence on a scale that expands the scope of the industry. Past AIAS Hall of Fame recipients include: Leslie Benzies (2014), Dan and Sam Houser (2014), Tim Sweeney (2012), Dr. Greg Zeschuk (2011), and Dr. Ray Muzyka (2011).

No, thank YOU, you magnificent human being. Thank you for creating a franchise that I fell in love with at the age of 12 and have never stopped loving. Thank you for your love of movies. It’s totally evident in your games, and while few somehow hate the long cutscenes, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for your sense of humor. “Funny” isn’t a word I see commonly associated with Metal Gear, but each game has the perfect amount of humor in it. Not too much, and not too little. Thank you for being there for me. Now I don’t mean that you were there personally for me, but you were there for me through your games. Believe it or not, Metal Gear has helped me get through some rough times. Though I wouldn’t mind if you were there for me in the flesh… we’d be good friends, even with a slight language barrier. Thank you for knowing what’s best for your games. Where other developers would milk it for all that it’s worth, you’re not afraid to bring a decades-old franchise to a close. Even if it costs your studio being closed and losing ownership to your own work, you always stick to your guns. And no matter what Konami does with it, Metal Gear will always be YOUR game. And most of all, thank you for just being you, man. I can’t wait to see what you have next for us, free from the chains of Konami. You’re capable of so much. I hope you find a place that doesn’t question your direction and lets you complete your vision. You know what you’re doing. You’re pretty good. But anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. I don’t know if you’ll ever actually read this, but this was my little thank you. Thanks for everything. We love you, Mr. Kojima!
So, I passed 100,000 followers a short while ago, but I didn’t have the money at the time to celebrate with a giveaway. I have now passed 115,000 and now I want to give a little something back to say thank you… again, hehe ^___^ x There will be two sets of prizes. One for my Tumblr followers, and one for my Instagram followers. All of these prizes have been imported from Japan and feature the official “Approved by Studio Ghibli” sticker, so are really high quality!

I’m not sure what this giveaway is celebrating, I just wanted to show my appreciation of all the support that my blog gets, and give a little something back. As I’m sure most of you are aware, I was recently in Paris for the ‘Dessins du Studio Ghibli‘ exhibition at Le Musee Art Ludique, and while I was there I picked up this exclusive artbook that features nearly 500 glossy pages crammed full of exquisite layouts from every Studio Ghibli film from ‘Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind’ to ‘When Marnie was There’, and also many Shorts and important pre-Ghibli works by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Anyway, this is your chance to win it and spend many a night entranced within it. You will receive a brand new, sealed/unopened copy. The photos are of the copy I bought for myself.

I read this post just now. Thank you Adam.
Solid Snake (and the many eyepatches seen throughout the saga) were inspired by the character Snake Plissken from John Carpenter’s films Escape from New York (1981) and Escape from L.A. (1996) played by Kurt Russell! Also, a few aspects of plot are borrowed, such as rescuing a president from captivity and an injection that could mean certain death.
