please please please please reblog if you’re a writer and have at some point felt like your writing is getting worse. I need to know if I’m the only one who’s struggling with these thoughts
Someone told me to think of it like this: "Everyone has a favorite song, a least favorite food, and something they want in life." Everyone is a story in their own way. We're all so beautiful and unique, yes, but the beauty comes from the things we share in common instead of what divides us. Just bc someone appears boring doesn't mean there's not a song they wouldn't be happy to hear. Just because you disagree with someone's beliefs doesn't mean they're any less human than you are.
I think it's important to remember that just because you find someone basic or boring or whatever, you're actually very wrong and they are a unique and layered person with their own complicated life, emotions and interests. They don't have to perform anything to show you how interesting or special they are.
That straight white girl with her stanly cup and sephora makeup doesn't have to show you what makes her 'unique'. The older gentleman who shares conspiracy theories on facebook and mows his lawn early in the morning doesn't have to prove he isn't an 'npc' to you. The woman with the 'Karen' haircut and her son who watches stupid youtube videos don't have to drop everything to demonstrate to you that they can break the stereotypes you've associated with them.
Every person is a real person. Even if you never see them do a thing other than what you expect them to do, they are just as deep and emotional as you are because they are ALIVE! They're real! And they don't owe you a tour into their lives just to prove to you that they have thoughts and feelings! Just because you lack the empathy or understanding to see that someone who doesn't share your same lifestyle, hobbies or stereotypes might actually have a rich and detailed life, doesn't mean you're right.
unironically the best kinds of people to encounter working customer service
One of the baristas at a nearby Starbucks makes me lose my mind every time I’m there by saying things that are not outside the spectrum of normal human words but are just slightly off-the-wall.
Barista: Welcome to Starbucks, home of delicious, what deliciousness can I put in motion for you today?
Customer: … Can I get a trenta pink drink please?
Barista: Go big or go home, we here at Starbucks appreciate your commitment, what else can I get started for you?
***
Customer: Nitro cold brew with shots of espresso please.
Barista: Brave of you to commit to staying awake for three days, anything else today?
***
Barista: *slams open drive-thru window* HI HOW ARE YOU?
Customer: …I’m pretty good.
Barista: Are you ready to be even better? Because you’re about to be. *hands them their coffee*
***
Barista, realizing that a drink was made wrong: *slams open window* SO how do you feel about surprises?
Customer: ….they’re okay.
Barista: Great because I’m about to give you one.
***
Barista: You have two drinks so I am going to hand you two straws which means, FANTASTIC news, these straws double as drumsticks. / You have one drink so I am going to hand you one straw and, promise not to tell anyone, this straw doubles as a magic wand.
***
Barista: Here are those cake pops, I plucked them fresh from the tree myself.
***
Barista: *slams open window, holding drink* Amazing, fantastic, delicious, you are a very lucky man/woman!
***
Barista, realizing drink is being delayed or remade: Looks like it’s gonna be just one minute so they have time to put the extra love in.
***
Barista: I’ll be with you in one hot second. *beat* WOW that second sure was hot!
Anyway she has a few dozen catchphrases she rotates approriately and it’s both distracting and fantastic to listen.
Tbh, the atomization of my generation is one of the saddest things ive ever seen. Like, to have a society at all requires individuals casting aside their own desires and needs and wants in order to support mutual survival. Different people with different morals and different belief systems coming together for something greater than themselves, whether that be the construction of a measly little building to provide shelter or a great city to protect their children, that's one of the best things about humanity in general (and let's be real humanity isn't the greatest). but its so sad to see my generation being raised with the idea that the individual is all that matters, because all that's going to come from it is a generation of self-interested, uncooperative, confused individuals. bc like it or not, men (meaning human beings in general) are not gods, and the simple fact that the only people we can can control are ourselves is proof enough of that. so to raise people with the idea that we are all fundementally gods only serves to make them confused when reality has its say and it turns out there's so much more than just themselves. nobody can have conversations, nobody can make sacrifices and the worst part is that nobody really believes in anything anymore just what serves them the best. and its all because we keep telling ourselves that we're the exception, we're the standard, we're the gods on earth and it just means that we're a generation of people yelling over each other, screaming "I'm special! I'm significant!" while everyone else screams the same about ourselves and the irony is, if more people focused on what unites us instead of what makes them different, more people would appreciate what makes each other significant, worth something but no we just scream into the uncaring darkess that our voice is all that matters and feel angry when our voice echoes back to us
Unfathomably based
