KONTROL-- Here's an old one that I finished probably about 2 months ago and never posted up. Was going for a simple, retro sci-fi look mixed with Cold War propaganda...

This is a favorite of mine because it was completely designed and colored with pencil, pen, and marker... no sprays.

There's Still Lettuce - A Short Story

There's Still Lettuce - A Short Story

Short fiction is something I don't play around with as often as the novel writing, but there are times when a phrase or story idea gets its hooks into me and demands expansion and exploration. The above flash fiction is one of those stories.

Been working to figure out how to format this kind of story for posting online, without it being a PDF download or anything. Pretty pleased with this final layout, as it breaks up the text a little while hearkening back to newspapers and print media publications. (And it translates well to reading on mobile, which is great!)

Hope you enjoy There's Still Lettuce, just a little something from beyond the universe of COLOR OF A MIRROR that shares a similar view of the shadows that lurk in the future.

“Many say the moon is closer to the dead.”

This is COLOR OF A MIRROR, my debut novel with an original, dark ambient soundtrack by composer Josh McCausland to go along with it.

Written, designed, and published by me, it’s the culmination of years of work, and it’s exactly the story I wanted to tell. It’s not loud or bombastic, but rather a cerebral, slow-burn cyberpunk narrative lingering on themes of fame, paranoia, religion, and technology. If you’re a fan of the brooding futures of William Gibson, Blade Runner, or anything with a mood like the movie Drive, I think you’ll find something to love here.

Available exclusively on my website, it comes in limited edition deluxe-hardcover, softcover, and e-book. (And if you’re a vinyl lover, the soundtrack is pressed in 180g Moondust White; also available on my site.)

Welcome to the Dive. Hope to see you around.

Escape Real Life

It’s that feeling you get far past the noon of night, when, as your day comes to a close, things begin, at last, to make sense.

It’s that urging that, if you could just grasp that feeling and hold its heart close in your hands, staying up through the dark and into the second day, you could achieve everything.

It’s that hastening of sleep which fights that urging, telling you that everything can be left for the morning.

It’s that pleading in the back of your mind; it begs you to push past the hastening, for in the morning, nothing will be as clear as it was in this moment.

And yet, every night, you always give in, knowing that real life will not forgive your whims.

And every morning you await the end of the day; you await that clarity and the chance to try again, assuring yourself it will be different this time.

  Define insanity.

Then… turn the music a little louder and put on a fresh pot of coffee.
