If I Rolled Out Of Bed, Didn't Fuck With My Hair Or Wash My Face And Put On Ill-fitting, Dirty Clothes

if i rolled out of bed, didn't fuck with my hair or wash my face and put on ill-fitting, dirty clothes and went to run an errand, someone probably would take pictures of me and put me on a page like "people of walmart" or "ratchetmess".

when im out my body and image belongs to the public, and nobody in that space cares about my wellbeing. i want to be me and do me no matter what, but unlike my white peers i don't have the option of not looking good. i don't have the option of having a bad hair day if i want to keep a job. few people will ever find my dishevelment charming, and looking upset (this is often a neutral expression or slightly showing stress) is a threat. people will not recognize my humanity and there's always a decent chance of bullying, harassment and danger.

What Cis People Say To Trans People Vs. What We Hear

By Meredith Talusan and Rory Midhani

TRANSlator 3000: Amazing technology translates cissexist BS!

“Oh you’re trans but you look so good!” “Trans people are ugly.”

“I’ve never met a trans person before.” “I assume I can identify any trans person.”

“I would date a trans person.” “Trans people are usually undateable so I deserve a prize.”

“You look just like a real woman.” “Trans women aren’t really women.”

“I’m glad you’re being honest with me about being trans.” “Trans people who don’t tell me they’re trans are deceivers and liars.”

“I loooooove trans people!” “I fetishize trans people.”

“It’s so hard to switch pronouns.” “Trans people are an inconvenience to me.”

“I don’t have a problem with trans people.” “I have a problem with trans people.”

Absolutely wreck your same-sex partner by saying “HA, GAYYY” whenever they show you any affection

idk how to explain this to you but when a unilaterally oppressed group names their oppressors and says stuff like "do better" they are talking about you, to you, and you are absolutely accountable. you are not one of the good white people, one of the good tme people, one of the good nonblack people: these people are talking to and about you and you are not exempt from the connotations of the post because, believe it or not, you are fully capable of being racist/transmisogynistic/antiblack/whatever. take responsibility for your actions and understand that we never stop growing. ever.

We talk a lot about consent, and that’s a good thing. We talk a lot about autonomy, and that’s a good thing. We talk a lot about privacy, and that’s a good thing.

But we talk mostly about all of that in respect to sex, and relationships, and it’s important to remember this applies to other things, too.

If someone says, “don’t tell anyone I got this new job,” and you then tell people, you’ve violated their consent, their privacy, and their autonomy.

If a friend says, “I don’t like it when people touch my hair,” and you keep touching their hair, you have violated their consent, their autonomy, and their privacy.

If a coworker asks you not to tease them about their new boyfriend, even if it seems like gentle and friendly fun to you, and you do it, you’ve violated their consent, their autonomy, and their privacy.

People remember these things, and they hurt. Not as much as sexual assault, obviously. But those small violations of your wishes, those instances of disrespect, still hurt, and they can add up.

Consent doesn’t just apply to sex. Respect the wishes of others.

can you talk about being intersex and cis? how do you know if you're cis or trans when you're intersex? i promise this isn't meant to be rude i'm just a little confused as to how gender works when you're intersex. thank you so much. <3

I’m cis because I’m afab and still identify as a woman. If I was afab and identified any other way, I’d be trans. I’m intersex because my body itself has a mixed bag of secondary sex characteristics and hormones.

The label “intersex” itself isn’t a gender identity as much as it’s a way for people with mixed or ambiguous sex characteristics to define that experience. There are cis men and women who are intersex, trans people of every kind as well. I’m sure there are intersex people who just identify as intersex entirely but most intersex people I’ve met still identify as male, female, or nonbinary. Because your body doesn’t determine your gender identity.

Also, the opposite of intersex is perisex. You can be cis or trans, while being intersex or perisex. If you’re not intersex, you are perisex.
