Rip stanley you would have loved Avon
Thinking about how the lyric “Learning love is not a crime” from Falsettoland/It’s About Time has a double meaning.
It means Marvin accepting his sexuality: learning that the way he loves men is not wrong within itself. That’s something he struggled with for the whole trilogy up until this point.
I also think it means that learning how to love isn’t a bad thing either. Marvin is in his 30s or 40s, and he’s only starting to have stable and mostly healthy relationships during Falsettos Act 2. It shows that learning how to love healthily can start at any age.
God I love Marvin’s development.

its so sweet to me whenever a reconstruction of a neanderthal's face shows up on social media and people are like "oh they would have loved minecraft" "they would have loved weed brownies" it's so sweet. i hope that continues on to the next stage of human evolution. i want whoever comes next to dig me up, reconstruct my face, and for the girlbloggers of this far-flung civilization to go "duuuude she would have loved churfing back a freefing zarbee"
the narrative: *starts the third act by repeating a scene from the first act but now it has a totally different context*
