Aizawa: I’m leaving for three days. Yaoyorozu is in charge. I’ve left notes for each of you with instructions
Kaminari: Mine just says ‘Kaminari, no.’
Aizawa: And you can apply that to every possible situation
hey, i was wondering if you had any thoughts about sokka returning to piandao to continue his training? do you think he does? what does that look like?
considering he only spent a total of 2 days with piandao and sokka is piandao’s favorite human ever to walk this earth apparently, i’m sure they’d reunite at some point, and sooner rather than later (other than at the white lotus encampment, i mean). i’m sure they would continue training (swordsmanship, painting, calligraphy, etc), maybe play pai sho together, and gossip about the (other) members of the white lotus. i think their relationship would eventually evolve past student + master, cause if sokka was able to achieve that much after a day it probably wouldn’t take long for piandao to be like “i have nothing more to teach you.” of course, they remain lifelong friends (he’s not sokka’s first weirdly older friend, and he won’t be his last. it’s cause sokka has grandpa energy). not to mention they see each other regularly at white lotus meetings. and when piandao dies, he leaves everything to sokka.
hi yes i would like people to remember that Sokka received the Mark of Wisdom and Katara the Mark of Bravery before you go around switching their personalities
These claw machines are so damn hard.
anyone ever think about how sokka is always so happy to see suki because he’s her biggest fan and suki always comes back because she’s his boomerang because i do, all the time
au where sokka, not their mother, is the one who sacrifices himself for katara (inspired by this post about sokka looking like his mom)
Sokka and katara are together in their house when the southern raiders attack
Their parents are out when the soldier yon rha breaks into their home
He knows that the north only trains boys in waterbending… he thinks the south is the same way
The kids are cornered by yon rha, who tells them
“I won’t hurt you kids if you tell me who in your village is the last waterbender”
Katara is terrified and knows he’s come for her
Sokka looks at his sister and thinks it’s up to me to protect her
So he says “it’s me. I’m the last waterbender of the southern tribe.”
Yon rha was planning to kill the last waterbender, but it’s only a child… he decides to kidnap sokka instead
Katara watches as her brother is dragged away, unable to stop the man as he takes sokka from her
All that’s left of sokka is his beloved boomerang
Yon rha takes sokka to a fire nation prison far inland in the earth kingdom colonies, even though he’s the only child there. Without a master or water around, he reasons, sokka is no threat.
Katara still has both parents, but she’s lost her brother and best friend and feels that it’s her fault
Sokka grows up in prison, learning how to fight when he’s smaller and weaker but cleverer than his fellow prisoners
As the only child in the prison, sokka has to play up his role as a harmless and agreeable kid. He’s funny and the other prisoners derive amusement from it, which means they’ll keep him around
He never forgets his water tribe roots though, or his family
Katara grows up lonely and determined, learning to hunt with the boomerang and a spear and waterbending all together. She’s not the caretaker role now, but the angry rebel daughter, brave but rash and proud and desperate to prove herself
One day she’s out hunting alone when she discovers a very special iceberg. Curious, she breaks it open immediately (bc let’s be real sokka is 95% of her impulse control in canon)
When sokka is fifteen, he successfully escapes from prison and makes his way west to the coast
He gets ambushed in the forest one day, and almost gets killed by a boy with hooked swords who accuses him of being fire nation (his prison shirt is red)
Sokka argues “no! I’m water tribe!” jet doesn’t believe it at first, but the blue of his eyes doesn’t lie
Jet is impressed by sokka’s fighting-dirty style and great aim and invites him to stay
Sokka joins the freedom fighters but is disgusted when he learns about jet’s distorted sense of justice. He starts planning a way to overthrow jet from the inside
Meanwhile, katara and aang travel north to find a waterbending master, and they just so happen to run into jet while flying over a forest
When they get to the treehouses, they run into a skinny, scrappy dark-skinned boy whose jaw drops when he sees katara
She doesn’t recognize him at first, and then all at once she does
“SOKKA?” “Katara, is that really you?”
There’s much crying and hugging and “how are you here?”
Sokka explains his plan to katara and aang, and they know not to trust jet
Jet’s plan is foiled by sokka and gaoling is never flooded
Katara gives sokka back his boomerang (“You kept it all this time?” “Of course. I’m probably better at it than you are, now.” “No way!!”)
They fly north. Katara has to relearn her brother, relearn his mannerisms and his personality. She’s surprised by how little he’s changed, even though he’s been through so much
Sokka is a harder version of himself, sharper and more cautious. But he still has his sense of humor and his clever plans, his same hairstyle and bright blue eyes.
ik this has been said countless times before, but i lose my marbles whenever i think about sokka slowly realizing that he doesn’t have to protect everyone all the time. sometimes he can let other people take watch out for him too!!
there was never really anyone to protect sokka growing up. all the other men had to fight in the war, and his mother was killed by the fire nation. my dude had to protect his entire village! and he let himself down when his girlfriend turned into the moon spirit when his only job was to protect her!
but all those scenes where sokka lets slowly suki protect him...
and he starts to open up to toph and zuko...
he feels awkward abt it but my heart melts every time sokka remembers that he isn’t actually ISN’T totally alone and sacrificeable. he’s allowed to be vulnerable. he’s isn’t just valued as a warrior, as a protector, but as a person! as a friend! even just a lovable-ass idiot!
throughout the series, sokka realizes that he’s LOVED by people other than katara obviously and he cherishes it. and his journey from Lonely Warrior to Cherished Friend absolutely obliterates me. every. single. time.
Aizawa 🤝 Kaminari
getting written out of scenes bc their quirk is too useful
sometimes u just gotta draw sokka drinking from his favorite mug (naturally, it was a gift from his friends)
do you have any favorite sokka episodes (aside from boiling rock and sokka's master, which i saw someone call a filler today?) sorry if you already answered this :)
okay, a totally underrated sokka episode is “bato of the water tribe.” sokka has a lot of great moments in this episode.
first, sokka manages to identify what happened during a battle just by the direction of some arrowheads, some scorchmarks, and footprints. this moment subtly demonstrates sokka’s keen sense for strategy and warfare.
then, he has a scene of quiet introspection by the fire while katara and aang are asleep, as he remembers being left behind by his father. this flashback really fleshes out & informs later motivations; i find it crucial in understanding sokka as a character.
then, he goes ice dodging, earning the mark of the wise. this scene really demonstrates how sokka is coming into his own as a leader, and how aang and katara trust his guidance.
then, he calls zuko stupid to his face, which demonstrates how sokka thinks zuko is stupid and has no problem telling him as much. (i know this seems like a joke, but genuinely i find it interesting how sokka has no respect for zuko, not for his intelligence or his power. he doesn’t seem to be intimidated by anyone in the fire nation?? he seems to be of the mindset that they’re all violent brutes who take part in war not out of necessity, but because it’s the only thing they’re good at. contrasted with katara and aang, and later toph, this is an interesting position to hold.)
it is also sokka, remembering how he felt when watching his tribe leave him behind, who insists that they go back for aang even if aang betrayed them, being able to empathize with aang’s hurt at the thought of being abandoned. sokka knows that he has the chance now to be there for aang in a way hakoda couldn’t be for him & katara.
finally, it is sokka’s idea to subdue nyla (june’s shirshu) by overwhelming its nose with perfume, which really puts (what piandao calls) sokka’s defining traits on display: creativity, versatility, and intelligence.
something that’s easy to overlook about the timeline of “sokka’s master” is that sokka only trains with piandao over the course of two days. and the second day is devoted entirely to crafting his space sword. piandao tells sokka that he is “worthier than any man [he’s] ever trained” after just one day of knowing him. and the gaang are beside themselves missing sokka after less than a day of him being gone. this episode demonstrates sokka’s value, both on his own merit and as a member of the group, but the fact that he accomplished so much and was so deeply missed after only ~18 hours is especially telling.

taking his new dog on a brisk walk
baking a pie
sipping hot tea while wrapped in a turtleneck
staring peacefully at the beautiful mountains
sketching said mountains
coming up with new ideas for superheroes
drawing them
taking up woodworking again
listening to music and grooving around his lil workshop
living a clean and sober happy life
making snow angels
reading a nice book
sitting by a warm cozy fire
falling asleep in his very own bed with his pupper at his feet
taking a nice long soak in the bath with candles and incense
living his goddamn best life far away from all the bullshit :))))

Korra Antis: I hate Korra! Shes the worst avatar, she destroyed the conection to the past Avatars!
All I'm saying is Sokkas make up skills would immensely outdo Kataras
Sokka can do both watertribe and Kyoshi paint flawlessly but Katara would be trying to waterbend her liquid eyeliner and getting increasingly mad at the uneven strokes
