Palestinian girls take part in a ballet dancing course, run by the Al-Qattan Center for Children in Gaza on Nov. 25, 2015. (Reuters)
regarding the genocide song contest:
various past eurovision contestants are campaigning for the removal of israel and some national finalists are now choosing to boycott. olly alexander, who will rep the uk, condemned the palestinian genocide and was subsequently attacked by israeli media (in a blatant rule violation the ebu did nothing about)
slovenian broadcaster rtvslo is purportedly trying to negotiate the removal of israel
1000 artists from host country sweden are preparing to send an open letter to the ebu to ban israel; the swedish left wing has also called for israel to be removed immediately
iceland is officially threatening to boycott eurovision pending the removal of israel
word on the street is that if iceland does compete, it will send palestinian artist bashar murad who is openly anti-israel and has collabed with previous icelandic reps hatari, aka the guys who did this back in 2019
iceland is now leading in the odds whereas israel has been steadily dropping, suggesting that the bookies are aware israel is becoming increasingly unpopular
lastly, in a move so ridiculous i'm beginning to suspect eurovision is a figment of our collective imagination, israel is seemingly gearing up to enter eden golan, a moscow-based russian singer. while russia is still banned for terrorism.
if you're european: please contact your participating broadcaster and demand for the removal of israel, or try to contact your nation's selected artist to put pressure on the broadcaster. if you're swedish, please try contacting svt or authorities with security concerns regarding the inclusion of israel. if israel does enter eden golan, complain about her selection and ties to russia. and absolutely DO NOT vote on, watch or promote this show if israel does end up competing.
tips for calling your government officials:
call after hours if you're afraid of having to talk to someone on the phone. it'll go to voicemail.
there are usually call scripts available for various issues, but you can always write your own script beforehand as well. just write down what you want to say, read it a few times, and then call and read it.
you don't have to give a big argument. just "this is wrong and i don't want you to support this" is fine. chances are, the gov't official isn't even gonna hear it, a staffer will. they're just gonna know you disagreed.
they ask that you leave your name and phone number in voicemails, but if you call a lot, they may blacklist you. as far as i know, it's perfectly okay to just not tell them any of that.
it's okay if you mess up. in my opinion, it's better if people who aren't articulate or stumble over their words a ton call in. that shows that regular, everyday people (who likely hate phone calls) are disagreeing with them.
if you're a jew and calling for them to stop the genocide in gaza, leverage that. i sure as hell am
if you're a christian and calling for them to stop the genocide in gaza, leverage that. especially in conservative states. pull out some bible verses. this might be hard if you didn't grow up in the south (specifically around passive aggressive people), but subtly(ish) imply that your gov't official is going to hell. for example, "almost 30,000 people dead... I can't imagine G-d turning a blind eye to anyone who is responsible for that many deaths, even if just in a small way."
if calling for KOSA, the key thing you want to point out is that the line between "protection" and "censorship" is thin. idk what you would say for a liberal/center-left gov't official (never had one of those before in my life), but for a conservative candidate, you're gonna want to say that 1) it can prevent free speech, 2) the liberals (maybe throw out joe biden's name) will definitely use this to skew discussions about the second amendment, abortion, the border, and other hot topics. i hate, hate using the the term "woke" outside of its original meaning within AAVE, but depending on your official that may be the move. and then 3) if someone more liberal than biden gets into office, we're screwed, 4) you don't want to be tracked and think that infringes on your rights to privacy, and/or 5) you don't trust "i won't let that happen"/"we can prevent that" because your official hasn't even solved [insert issue they campaigned on/often discussed but didn't absolve] or [insert smaller things, like getting enough fundings to fix roads].
call as much as you can. it helps more than you think. don't let the bystander effect kick in.
feel free to add your own
Today 40 Palestinians died in an Israeli shelling of homes in central Gaza, while more than 100 were severely injured (majority women and children). Yesterday Israel bombed Syria, killing two. Israel also bombed Lebanon, killing a woman and a girl.
Just to be crystal clear—Israel is now simultaneously bombing Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
EVERYONE STOP!!! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
from Dr Jennifer Cassidy, 21/Jam/2024:
Caption: STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND TAKE ONE MOMENT TO SIGN ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PETITIONS OF THE ICJ CASE AGAINST ISRAEL.
Once you have done that SHARE to all you know!
We all need to get these witnesses to the ICJ. We need the world outside the online sphere to hear their voices, their humanity, their testimony. Together we can make this happen.

Thinking of all the young Palestinans who would have become my co-fellows after med school, having similar dreams like me, are my age and how they are either dead, missing, disabled permanently or displaced. Thinking of all the brave doctors in Palestine, great minds who are either dead, didabled, displaced, understaffed or kidnapped. Thinking of young Sudanese who would have been my co-fellows unable to even leave their houses or are dead, traumatized. Thinking about the people my age in congo who never even had the chance to actualize their dreams and are either in indebted servitude or dead.
And thinking about fucking overprivilieged foolish zionists who are still defending Israel's genocidal actions. Thinking about foolish Africans who keep buying the latest phones, diamonds, gold etc. Thinking about that moron that went on a podcast to mock the Congolese genocide. Thinking about the fact that I share the same oxygen with these fools instead of people who deserved a chance at life, disgust me.
You can say I'm being too mean and yes I am. I have no empathy for those who endorse genocide, especially those who have the platform to help but useless it. I am angry that these sorry excuses of humans exist.
And I am sorry we let this fester for so long.
With Ramadan less than a month away...I can only pray that Allah makes it easy for the Muslims in Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Congo, Kashmir, and every country where people are oppressed.
In Sha Allah this Ramadan, things will change for the better. In Sha Allah this Ramadan, the Israeli Apartheid Regime will fall and Palestinians will have their land back.
Please keep those who are oppressed in your duas and please don't stop talking about oppression
Rashida Tlaib has set up a petition to send to the White House to recognize and stop the ethnic cleansing and forced displacement happening in Gaza. If you’re a US citizen please sign. I have no illusions that this will change policy, but the public outcry against their actions must continue. We will not be distracted or discouraged from continuing to object to these humans rights violations.

Here’s another fundraiser I can vouch for. It’s run by a friend of my sister’s. It’s for a family of 9, including elders with chronic conditions who can’t access healthcare. Please share widely across social media platforms 🖤
This is Rafah, The "safe" zone, where 1.5 million Palestinian fled to. You have to understand, what bombing Rafah means.
Please don't look away, while everybody is busy watching the super bowl, Israel commits one of its most deadly and openly genocidal attacks on Rafah. Please don't look away.
"photograph of a young palestinian girl flying her kite on al-waha beach, gaza, 2011. on this day, 6,200 palestinian children filled the gaza sky with kites, achieving the guinness world record for most kites flown simultaneously. the culture of kite flying amongst gaza youth remains a symbol of resilience, creativity, and joy. over the past 7 weeks, the amount of children killed by the israeli state has nearly surpassed this number, continuing to rise each day. we must continue calling for a permanent ceasefire now. the devastation must end" — via @azeemamag on instagram
Wanted to let you guys know that Let’s Talk Palestine has just launched fundsforgaza, an initiative created for the purpose of spotlighting families in urgent need of emergency funds. This list highlights families who’re trying to evacuate Gaza, but which aren’t getting enough attention. Please donate if you can—and whether or not you can, spread this to as many people as possible. The delay between this second and the next could make a difference in whether a family gets to live or not.
In case you lost it - a link to the eSIM donation guide. Even if you feel sick and powerless, you can at least do this. And even if you really, really can't donate, you can always at least share this and remind others.

israel is bombing rafah. as you read this, israel is bombing the one place they told palestinians was safe. they kept pushing the palestinians south and now they are bombing the only "safe" place left. israel is bombing rafah.
A Palestinian father playfully balances his son on his right hand at the beach in Gaza City early one evening.
The coast of Gaza has grown increasingly popular over the years. It had always been a sight for weary eyes but with Israel’s siege denying Gazans the freedom to move, its seemingly endless seascape offers, for many, a very tangible escape, even if only temporal. It has also become a very popular family destination. Entire meals are prepared, served, and eaten here, and it is not uncommon to stay the night, father, son, and all.

Love is in the air 🖤🗡💀
guys i actually beg of you to not let palestine become an unpleasant flashback, a transient tumblr trend, a hasbeen subject that just faded away. as an arab—and specifically iraqi—girl, i know what it feels like to have family displaced all over the world as a result of western imperialism. i know what it feels like to not be able to step foot into your homeland because it’s no longer safe. as an american iraqi, raised in the us and insulated from my roots, it wasn’t until last summer that i was able to visit iraq for the first time, and even then my family was worried for my safety—in my own blood country. although nothing like what palestinians are experiencing right now, it might be the tiniest semblance of what it feels like to watch your country disintegrate in front of you.
and this is a universal arab experience. i volunteer weekly at a refugee center that serves middle eastern refugees, and every day i see the longing in their eyes when they speak of where they hail from. it’s safe to say that we will be getting a wave of palestinian refugees very soon: just another generation of arabs who can’t inhabit their own country.
arab culture is so rich, so profound, so beautiful. i am tired of being told by the world—through literal genocide—that it doesn’t mean anything. please never let this be forgotten. free palestine. free palestine. free palestine.
Palestinian women and girls are actively being denied uterine and gynecological care. they have to use tent remnants as tampons and pads. they’re also getting infections as well. israel is actively denying them humanity. they have 0 access to care they need.
The Pious Projects is raising funds to distribute feminine hygiene kits in Gaza! They have on ground teams serving their own communities and their programs are always 100% admin free. Click the link to learn more & donate a hygiene kit. They have different tiers of donation so anything from a 5 dollar donation to a 1000 dollar donation can be done
I am sorry if I’m all over the place because I was watching the ICJ live. And my reaction afterwards was me taking in information and trying to make sense of my initial reaction after seeing @gothhabbiba say it’s not a call for a ceasefire when I heard the end of all military actions contributing to the death and destruction of Palestine must end.
I posted that South Africa won because I heard the exact words:
This is a ceasefire for Genocide.
Israel must cease all military actions and operations in Gaza or else they are deemed a rogue state. They took a step further than South Africa who saw it as an active military conflict. They recognize Israel-Palestine Conflict as not a conflict, but a genocide and thus calling for a ceasefire isn’t appropriate. This is a win.
We know Israel won’t abide by it. And that’s always been the case, but I don’t think the United States is ready to admit that International Law that they erected is a complete facade. Stop letting your edgy cynicism show.
The UN declared that Palestinians have a legal right to resist occupation by any means necessary. They declared Israel’s settlement grab and occupation as illegal. The ICJ confirmed that Israel’s actions after October 7th are in parameters of violation of Geneva Convention Article 2 and they must cease all acts of genocide militarily and systemically in accordance to Article 2. If Israel doesn’t within a month report back proving they are not committing genocide to the ICJ, they are deemed a rogue state. That means Israel, in a region that hates them, is fair game. If United States continues to fund and weaponize them after a month when Israel doesn’t end its genocidal acts, it’s aiding and abetting genocide thus gets declared legally as a rogue state which China who is committing genocide against the Uyghurs and Russia who is doing a land grab on Ukraine would be happy to vote on .
That’s a W. That is huge.
yall better be just as outraged about this as you were about notre dame
Say it with me:
Change is coming. Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Hawaii, and more will be free.
Stop talking about these places as if hope is lost. Change is coming. Palestine will be free, then we will work on the next thing, then the next.
Change is coming.
[Image description: A poem titled "רַבִּי / رَبِّي" written Friday, November 17, 2023: Rabbī, I cannot praise your deeds. / Rabbī, no weeping moves you. / Rabbī, your justice is wedded to perversion. / Rabbī, your love looks much like your hatred. / Rabbī, the patriarchs have been gilt as idols. / Rabbī, the Temple has been built into a prison. / Rabbī, mixed multitudes have been spat on. / Rabbī, all oneness has been sported with. / Rabbī, ministering angels are consigned to wailing. / Rabbī, nameless infants are fed the world’s silence. / Rabbī, your nations have smeared the sea red. / Rabbī, your holy city has been split in two. / But by whom? / Rabbī, shall I say “them” or “us”? / Rabbī, which people is solely yours? / Rabbī, what image is divine alone? / Rabbī, when comes the Hour of Closing? / Rabbī, where hides the Place of Its Glory? / Rabbī, why? Answer now. Answer. End image description.]
note 1: as the title implies, "rabbī" may be read as the hebrew word for "a jewish cleric" or the arabic word for "my l_rd" (i.e., g_d).
note 2: this poem is written from an anti-zionist jewish perspective. therefore the question "by whom? / shall i say 'them' or 'us'?" is not meant to dispute palestine as the oppressed party. rather, it is meant to be taken extremely literally, because it is situated in my individual experience: should i—a muslim in the process of converting to judaism, who has been estranged from jewish community and had my conversion delayed because of zionism; who has no personal ties to israel but is nevertheless complicit in its genocidal actions by nature of living in the warmongering USA which uses my household's tax dollars to fund it; who believes that "all israel are responsible for one another" (shevuot 39a)—refer to the oppressors as "them" or "us"?

[ID: A video recording of Bisan Owda, filming herself standing still and speaking in front of a car underneath the morning sky in Gaza, with the sun visible above her head. Loud sirens can be heard around her as she says:
"Hey, everyone. This is Bisan from Gaza. We're still alive, and we wish you a merry Christmas in the Christmas eve. Wish you a merry Christmas despite the churches of Gaza are closed, full of displaced people, and surrounded with snipers. We wish you a merry Christmas despite the children, women, men, Christians and Muslims of Gaza are murdered and under genocide. We wish you a merry Christmas despite that we cannot exchange gifts or spend our holidays in our homes because they are completely destroyed, and merry Christmas despite there are hundreds of killed, decomposed bodies in the the north of Gaza Strip in the streets, at least 137 them are field executed by the Israeli soldiers in front of their children. Merry Christmas, but pray for Gaza."
End ID.]
Please think about why these videos are coming out in English. In your tongue, so that you can understand them. Don't ignore them or get tired of seeing them or call them guilt-trippy. Don't stop talking about Palestine. Make Palestine impossible to ignore. Even at the cost of "disrupting" your celebrations.
I have no words to describe the pain I feel. after 40 years of democracy, my country elected a party whose only goal is to be a colony once again, to sell the country to Elon Musk, to the USA and the UK, to have our sovereignty impugned and erased.
I remember the video of USAmerican congressists calling Argentina an "important asset for the United States". I remember when we told all of you to be vigilant because this was gonna turn into a genocide.
Tomorrow, the Mega DNU (Decree of Necessity and Urgency) is going to overrule most of our constitutional rights, and yesterday the Omnibus Law was presented to congress, including measures that make it illegal to gather in public without permission (state of siege), and make it so that protest is a crime. We will have to pay for the bullets that kill us, and cops will have absolute legal immunity to hunt us.
Word for word, a dictatorship. Fascism.
We've already gone through this many times, but I want to see worldwide protests about this. I want the UN to intervene. I want the world to make noise.
What worries me is this is not an isolated case. With many genocides going on worldwide, if the world fails Argentina, this will be the blueprint for all of the world.
Make no mistake, what happens here will happen everywhere there's natural resources and sovereignty. If not through overt genocide, through an extremely libertarian far right that wins elections by manipulating people, funded by Elon Musk. A second Operation Cóndor.
