It’s been a thousand years since he took his first breath, tucked into the safety of his mother’s arms. Child of Darkness, they called him. One of the many names he would wear, like a mask, throughout the years: Ben Solo, Kylo Ren, Master of the Underworld.

She walks into his life with the reckless abandon of a hurricane blowing through a village, razing the very foundation of him. It is an awakening; an answer to a question he had dared not ask.

“I only ever wanted to hold your hand. It is a privilege and an honour that you let me hold your heart.”

In her, he finds his match.

A partner. “It’s you.”

And equal. “Just you.”

Bonded forever. “I do.”

Destiny deals its cold, cruel blow when it takes her from him. Monsters like him are undeserving of love, he knows. But no creature on earth should ever know this kind of pain.

It is the sweetest torture and the purest relief when, years later, he finds her again in a different place, a different time, a different life.

“Rey. I would recognise your eyes in every lifetime.”

“Ben.” His name on her tongue is a balm to his tired soul and an axe to his aching heart.

He should know it could not last. He should know that that was to be his punishment: to relive history in an agonising, inevitable circle. Finding her, just to lose her. Again, and again.

“Every time you’re gone, it’s like the Light in me is snuffed out. And every time I find you again, it’s as though the sun rises to greet me.”

“I’ll wait for you. In every lifetime,” she smiles. “I’m quite good at that.”

So I couldn’t help but do more of this AU. This is a reunion for the king and queen of the underworld. Rey has added more belladonna and hemlock to her repertoire, not exactly happy to be parted from her husband…
