okay. regarding the ASL interpreter on the news about hurricane Milton.
im going to need everyone who doesn't know anything about ASL and interpretation to STOP trying to "catch" this lady faking ASL. honestly just shut up. I have seen so many "is this real? this looks so fake" posts over the past 2 days and its genuinely so irritating and disheartening. yall don't know anything about ASL as a language, Deaf culture, HoH culture, interpretation, NOTHING. and honestly, as a deaf person, its makes me frustrated seeing people blindly insult not only this specific interpreter but ASL as a whole.
ASL is not just English with your hands. it is a whole separate language with its own culture, grammar, and needs. the interpreters expressions were not eccentric or over the top. facial expressions are NECESSARY for D/deaf and HoH people. so many of us rely on them for tone and meaning.
"why can't they just use captions". number 1, ASL is not English. they're two different languages. number 2, live captioning can often be inaccurate. number 3, English might not be the first language of someone who uses an ASL interpreter.
if you're hearing about a deadly, horrific natural disaster on the news and your first instinct is to try and catch a "fake interpreter" without any knowledge of the language and culture, i need you to take a step back and stop speaking over the D/deaf/HoH community.
ASL and the D/deaf/HoH community have been consistently shunned and outcast from the rest of society, and people continuing to perpetuate harmful and frankly gross stereotypes and rumors about ASL and the D/deaf/HoH is disgusting. stop.

you're laughing. The umbrella academy's final season destroyed every character's personal growth and semi-healed traumas, left huge plot-holes, completely abandoned some of it's most beloved side characters that were crucial in previous seasons and you're laugh-oh. You're crying. My bad. Go ahead. Let it out. Understandable.
