idk i have a lot of sympathy for people who were abused themselves or suffered from mental health issues etc etc and of course being mentally ill doesn’t absolve liam of being an abuser and it doesn’t make us or his victims obligated to forgive him (or even feel sorry for him - maya is allowed to grieve however she wants including not grieving at all) but idk. seeing people gleefully making jokes and mocking him just feels wrong. we see it all the time with child stars, being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age and the substance abuse, sometimes physical abuse and then they die young. of course for me it feels different because one direction has been such a big part of my life for so long and we literally watched them grow up

idk. maya and any other victims can do what they want but the internet hates nuance and many people need to grow an empathetic bone in their body because what do you mean “the mental health defense doesn’t apply here” of course it does. of COURSE it does!!!!!!!!!

They're so innocent

My favorite thing about all this Maysles footage is how innocent they are. They're thrilled at hearing their own voices, asking how it works and why there's a delay. Baby George is still cuter than anything to me. The grouchy George of later years seems so different than the George who hadn't been hurt yet. And Paul saying “congratulations.” 🥰

I'm so glad it was these two brothers following these boys in their first US trip because they were lovely people who immediately took to the lads and made them feel comfortable and safe, and had fun with them. The first thing I thought of was the difference in them and Michael Lindsey Hogg, who had an almost antagonistic and definitely selfish tone with them, and when you realize that these brothers got the call to do this just hours before the plane was about to land at JFK it's easy to see how lucky they got and how lucky we got.

One thing about us Beatles is that we’re just as nutty now as we ever were. Our chart success hasn’t changed us, thank goodness. I remember the first time I ever met Paul was on the bus home from school. He was sitting laughing to himself. I thought, “We’ve a right case here,” and then I realised he could see his own reflection in the window. Well, I thought, that explains it!

John, I recall, was eating fish and chips, but his hair being so long kept getting in the way! Ringo, who I met in a club, looked moody. Then when we started talking he explained he’d been talking hard and the effort was too much for him. He can’t help it, poor lad.

I was never officially introduced to myself. In accordance with the natural custom I was born, at the time being fairly small (about twenty inches long). My mother insists that I was brought into the world singing and playing a guitar, but I think she’s joking.
