Every once in a while I have to post my favorite photo of home since I’m gone all the time // Instagram

“Why do you always go to that one particular spot in the wetlands to fish?”
“I just think I blend in well there.”

White-tailed fawn.
You don't see this every day. We were working our favorite bluegill pond this morning, when I noticed a largemouth bass chase a bluegill out of the weeds in the shallows near where I stood on the bank. Shortly after that, the bass began to jump out of the water and thrash around. You could see that the bluegill was lodged in its mouth. The bass got weaker and weaker after a bit and would rise to the surface, pause for a bit, and then dive back down.
I rigged a pole with a bare hook and managed to snag it after a few tries. The bluegill was definitely too large to swallow and the sharp spines of its fins prevented the bass from spitting it back out. A couple of the spines had actually pierced the walls of the bass' mouth.
I was able to extract the lodged fish and set the bass free after a few moments of resuscitation to get oxygen back in its system.
Hopefully it will make more reasonable lunch choices in the future. 😁
