Sunny and Basil in the hospital after the confrontation
Sunny (trying to explain headspace): āand in my dreams it seemed like everything was nice but-ā
Basil: (still coming down from anesthesia) āin my dreams you were god anddd you kissed meā
Sunny: āā¦?ā
Basil: ācan you call the nurse, my stab wound hurts.ā

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE DESIGN!!! THE SWORDS THE HELMET THE CHAINMAIL...chefs kiss.
Ooiuguhhh I've got to draw her sometimes..
I don't have much too say bcoz I'm running late somwhere sadly!!
So for the AUās purposes this is Charlene- she was one of the first ideas I came up with! Something about giving her a sword helmet just stuck with me, as you may guess sheās the āweapon shopā character to go with Maverick being the item shop (and yes by the way I did put them in the same pose. It looks good)
Anyhow, the flower nestled in her chainmail is Goldenrod! Elaboration below ā¬ļø
This is goldenrod, goldenrod was my pick for Charlene because it can simultaneously represent both encouragement and caution, I use this as a shorthand for āmake good choicesā which is the sort of character I see Charlene has, sheās responsible in perhaps the most burdensome sense
Charlene is not only the one looking out for the hooligans, but as the youngest of her siblings is left to take care of their aging mother while her brother just sits in his room all day gaming instead of doing anything for either of them (this man is fully capable of getting off his ass to get his momās medication from the pharmacy but simply chooses not to) and her other siblings have all moved away and gone about their own lives
Charlene as a character is depicted as many things she doesnāt seem to want to be, responsible, quiet, imposing- we know she probably doesnāt like how sheās perceived because she makes an effort to dress in a cutesy sort of way, she isnāt trying to be this intimidating person, itās just her build is all, and in addition to the idea of being left responsible for other peoples dutyās when sheās still just a teenager, the contrast in the first place is why I like goldenrod as her flower
Unfortunately Basil has a hard time keeping this reality in his mind, he feels bad for it but Charlene scares him, he gets really nervous around her even though sheās never said anything bad about or towards him- so in his mind Charlene manifests as someone scary but harmless, helpful even
(Sidenote, I like to headcanon that other then Aubrey Basil actually knows Charlene the best and has known her longest, they Arendt exactly friends? But their mom/grandma respectively were so they spent time together as kids, itās that really quiet sort of acquaintance ļæ¼you have with the kid your parent sticks you with and tells you to be friends with- they donāt consider each other friends exactly, they just know each other)
Also I tend to headcanon Charlene as transfem, that has nothing to do with anything thatās just a thought I have about her
hello, can you tell us more about cannibalism please? (This is in reference to the shark fin post and your additions about what happens eating human flesh)
Okay sure!
So cannibalism psychologically occurs in one of three scenarios
Survivalist cannibalism
Narcissistic cannibalism
Psychosis triggered cannibalism
The first two are the most common, Survivalist cannibalism is merely a result of situational desperation although interestingly itās been found that people who engaged in it showed far less apprehension to do it again and less disgust then the average person, which in my opinion implies the aversion humans have towards Cannibalism is social rather then innate, the most famous example of this was the Donner party, a group of American settlers who became stranded in the snow on their way west and were forced to eat their dead until rescue
Narcissistic cannibalās are something weāre all familiar with but probably donāt realize it, the vast majority of cannibalistic murderers are this type, the most famous example of this is of course Jeffery Dahmer, what most people donāt understand about this case and the cases of most other cannibal serial killers is that the main focus of their crimes usually isnāt the cannibalism itself but rather other acts towards their victims and the killing itself, thatās why these crimes are often done in tandem to sexual ones as the killer in questionās reasoning is centered around power dynamics; their motivation rests within the idea that eating something is the ultimate way to be above it, a sort of food-chain complex
Last but not least thereās Cannibalistic ideation as a symptom of psychosis or other schizoaffective disorders, psychosis is what most people refer to when they talk about āgoing insaneā, itās a state any particular disturbed person can fall into which causes hallucinations and delusions, the desire to eat human flesh as a symptom while uncommon is not unheard of- in fact thereās several sub-disorders that have been named to define more specific and repeated circumstances
āWindigo psychosisā is one of these specific disorders which has only been observed within Native American communities, itās thought that cultural context can affect how a persons psychosis manifests, and for Natives of North America within Algonquin speaking regions this particular form of it can occur which includes some amount of cannibalistic ideation as its symptom
(although Iād like to note that in cases of psychosis regardless of circumstances its rather uncommon for the person in question to act upon the thought, itās a pervasive idea that schizophrenic or psychotic individuals are dangerous due to the frequent violent thoughts which can occur for these individuals, but it must be said that violent crimes are not committed by these people as often as some think, and self harm is far more common in these situations then the harm of others)
With that disclaimer out of the way! Letās talk about pseudo-cannibalism! Thatās not a real term thatās just what I call it, but itās when a person only consumes a small, specific part of another human or prepares them in a very specific way, these category also includes ritualistic cannibalism and cannibalism as a death rite
Some interesting examples of this include Egyptian mummy candy! The creation of this substance entails the regular mummification process in which a dead body has its organs removed before being sewn back up, but rather then being wrapped in cloth the sarcophagus is filled with honey and left for a long time, in addition the person in question also consumed honey before death to really just be full of honey, this process is referred to as mellification and itās thought that the substance produced was used as medicine once hardened, although I must stress that mellification is a theory and has not been confirmed to have actually happened in ancient Egypt by archaeologists, still itās extremely interesting and I wanted to talk about it even if it hasnāt been confirmed as real
Although you know what kind of mummy eating actually did happen? Mummy parties! In Victorian England and America mummies weāre all the rage, people would buy them to keep in their house or host mummy parties which on occasion entailed crushing up bits of the mummy into powder and eating or SNORTING it! Sometimes the powder was even used as paint by combining it with sunflower oil- these practices are unfortunately why we donāt have many mummies anymore
As for cannibalism as a death rite, the practice has been observed in places like Brazil and Peru, and while the practice is essentially retired in the modern day thereās plenty of places that did so in the past
Okay thatās about all Iāve got off the top of my head, I encourage looking into into it yourself though! Thereās many interesting things to be learned, additionally Iām not sure how accurate all of my information is, cannibalism is an obscure topic so sometimes stuff gets spread that isnāt true, like mellification and how we arenāt sure if it ever actually happened or not! Hope you enjoyed my ramble though!
Marzenie time guysss
Hereās the Basil design!
Other versions plus a little elaboration on the design:
Cloakless + wing design versions
So for the sake of specificity Iāve been calling him āMarzeā whenever I refer to the in-dream version of Basil, Same naming convention as (Hikik)Omori, but donāt be mistaken, Marze is not an individual like Omori is, Marze is a costume- just the suit that Basil wears while venturing the horrors of his mind, Marze is merely how Basil conforms himself to the world of Marzenie, none of the characters there are really human so itād be out of place if Basil himself was (this can be viewed as a form of self-dehumanizing on Basilās part but itās mostly for the artists sake- the meta explanation is just as important as the in-world one)
Now for the design itself:
maybe the symbolism here is really obvious but I wanna explain it anyway, the Deer parts (antlers and legs) are representative of Basilās general personality as a whole- heās skittish and vulnerable yes but when forced deer do fight back, an idea thatās very important to Marzenie given it displays Basil LITERALLY fighting to survive against his inner struggles, that and the creator (me) really likes deer ⦠so thereās that
Otherwise, the wings are Moths wings, which seems like itās a really simple connection to Sunny and the idea that Moths are drawn to light but itās a little more literal in Marzenie because itās not just that Sunny is Basils sun in a metaphorical way itās that in Marzenie he actually IS, in the world of Marzenie there is a Sun-God character that is very obviously just Sunny, which is both about bit about Basilās view of Sunny as someone without flaw but also about just how much Basil relies on him⦠or rather the IDEA of him
Sun-God-Sunny is a very important presence in Marzenie because itās his very absence thatās made Marzenie what it is, returning to that Map art I made for a moment here
Within Marzenie itās not just that Sunny is a god but that heās a dead/āsleepingā god, and in his absence the world has become cold and dark (which necessitates that lantern in the desgin above)
Yes Basil had issues before the incident but having friends and having SUNNY made that bearable and something he could have gradually put behind him, being abandoned so suddenly in such a traumatic way has thrown Basilās mind into a state of eternal darkness, the world of Marzenie is cold and dark and dangerous, and all of this is the most literal possible representation of the damage Sunnyās absence has inflicted on Basilās mental state
Sunnyās character in Marzenie being the Sun god is also why the center of it and the beginning of the journey is a church, the only hope Basil has anymore is that Sunny will return and they can be friends again, so heās build an alter in his mind dedicated to this hope, this prayer
Also religious imagery is fun <3, also itās a parallel to the church of something and how Basilās house is at the center of Vast forest (and thus the center of Sunnyās mind, they center their places of safety around each other, even if for Basil that place is a tiny candlelit alter in the center of a dark woodland while for Sunny that Place of safety is EVERYTHING in his mind, so vastly different and yet sort of the same <- does any of this make sense? Probably not, who cares, itās my AU and I WILL ramble as much as I like ok)
Tempted to very slightly change alter boyās design to give him one of those facial shape thingys that people put on their characters and look like owlsā¦.
