Generic alien AU my beloved

(I know this AU idea has probably been done to death by now, but it's genuinely my favourite concept in this fandom and I've always been obsessed with making my own version of it 🙏)

In a nutshell, the weird-ass space goo Pim injects into his arm during the party ends up fucking with his DNA as a Critter later on, causing him to start developing alien traits because of it (Initially just stuff he could easily hide, such as pair of antennae and slightly green-ish pupils, but it later develops further into psychological traits as well, such as nocturnality and an instinctual longing to return to space)

Despite his usual apathy, Charlie finds out pretty quickly that Pim's hiding something (as he would, considering that they're together on jobs nearly every day), and once Pim tells him the truth, he opts to help him hide these changes for as long as they can (such as lending Pim his hoodie to hide his most prominent alien features, making up sick-day excuses for him, ect...), or at least until they can find a cure of some kind, despite not knowing where to start looking.

They both know they can't tell anyone about these changes happening to Pim, fearing that it might all end up in one of them accidentally blurting out what happened during that Saturday night that all culminated in Bill's death and them finding out that the earth is flat (both of which they're still trying to recover from, on top of all this.) --- I have a whole bunch of different ideas for this au that may not even make it into the final product (Glep was initially going to find out about Pim as well, but I scrapped that idea in the end, seeming as it kind of took away from the whole tension of P & C having to keep the UFO Hunting incident a secret), so maybe I'll make another, more refined post about this AU someday?? Hey guys! It's been a while! 👋

I'd been working on some character studies for the main critters in Smiling Friends! Well... mostly of Charlie and Pim.

I redrew some screenshots to get a better idea of how to draw the characters! Truthfully, I ended up sketching for so long that I decided to work on my reference sheets in between. I'll leave the other sheets under the "read-more" in case you wanna see 'em! ✨

Here are some sketches of Charlie! The main thing I wanted to get down was how to position his nose depending on the angle he's being seen from! I had to imagine him (alongside the other critters) like a 3D model... albeit with some liberties-

I gave maid Charlie a bow on his back (because of course I did), and if I were to ink + color the drawing... he would have white stockings-

Here are some sketches of Pim! With him, I needed to get down the structure of his face based on how he was emoting. It's still complicated... but something that helps is thinking about the structure of a muppet - an adorably goofy design with a mouth that can widen greatly. Thinking about it this way helps me picture how to draw his face-

These are my sketches of Allan and Glep! I can't see myself drawing them as much as Charlie and Pim, but I felt it was still necessary to practice drawing them just in case-

I also drew all four of them on their trip to Brazil for a friend- 💖

This was the page I used to lay out some of my headcanons!

I've already drawn them in my reference sheets a while back, but basically - Charlie has pronounced canines, while Pim his larger webbing in between his fingers. They're intended to be subtle additions that allow their designs to remain as close to the original as possible-

As for baby Charlie and Pim, I absolutely love vinegar-rights' designs! They really hit the nail in the head in terms of how I would imagine the little ones to look like.

Adding onto it - I just love the idea that baby Pim is a fast boy who likes to do zoomies inside his tank. Meanwhile, baby Charlie is always tired. If you were to try sit him up, he would just flop back down on his belly or back-

This one has to be my personal favorite out of all the sketches... I just had this vision of how Charlie looks like in my head when he is yelling at the aliens, and I wanted to sketch it out. I gave Charlie's eyes some bright pupils because I wanted to see how much it changed the expression and man...

I love it.

It makes him look a lot like an angry bear or dog if you were to take a picture of them with the flash on. It was exactly the kind of expression that I was going for-

The last sketch I have is of Jennifer! The episode she's featured in has to be my favorite so far! I just kinda saw a little bit of myself in her personality-wise... so naturally I had to take a crack at drawing her-

I've considered sketching out more screenshots... but I think I get how to draw 'em at this point-

- someone will have a birthday party

- another man (not pim) will want charlie biblically

- mr frog assassination attempt that fails miserably

- musical episode in which pim sings most of the time. allan will sing a little bit, charlie will not sing at all (or will not be voiced by zach hadel when he is)

- charlie will have some sort of flashback scene. his uncle will be voiced but not shown

- someone will be high in an episode and it will not be addressed in the slightest

- meatcanyon and/or tomska cameo

- glep and allan will have a combined dedicated episode

- mr boss will have a dedicated episode that plays out completely normally and nothing interesting happens

- pim and charlie get sucked into a computer

- there will be some sort of babysitting plot

- mr boss has a grown ass man in his basement

- the halloween episode will have a vampire

- the christmas episode forces pim and charlie to play the role of santa claus because santa needs cheering up

- charlie and pim have a voice swap episode
