Okay so my response went on a little longer than expected! I still would appreciate any feed back you guys can give me.

I’m going to step back and pretend I was villain who had no issues with harming innocent people (in other words, Dabi.) I’ve come face to face with my abuser who has made my life a living hell and is worshiped by the public as an incredible and just hero (who is Endeavor.)

If I were Dabi, my goal would NOT be to kill Endeavor. Although killing Endeavor would be very enjoyable, it would be over too quick. Also this would only cause Endeavor to be seen as a tragic hero and to be loved even more by the public. I would want to humiliate Endeavor and make the world hate him just as much as I do. I would want to take away anything and everything Endeavor has ever care for. I would want to make Endeavor suffer, and to live the rest of his life in suffering.

I’m 99% sure that Dabi has probably spent YEARS planning how to get the perfect revenge against Endeavor. He exposed Endeavor on life TV for the abuser Endeavor truly is. For extra measure, Dabi also made sure that  Endeavor was beaten up to a bloody pump. Not only will Endeavor now be seen by the public as an abuser, but someone who is also weak as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if the public turns their backs on Endeavor and strips him of his hero status.

To add even MORE fuel to the fire, Dabi also tried to burn Hawks alive AND humiliate Hawks by portraying him as a villain to the public. As much as the fandom LOVES the idea of Hawks and Dabi having romantic feelings for each other, the notion simple is NOT true. In fact, it’s very much the opposite. Dabi HATES Hawks ALMOST as much as he hates Endeavor. Hawks is one of Endeavors biggest supporters and is also the second top ranked hero. You can argue that Dabi only attacked Hawks because Hawks went after Twice. However, I’m pretty sure that Dabi was planning on killing Hawks the whole time. Dabi did go through the effort of getting personal info on Hawks to use against him before hand. Also leaving Hawks alive would be too much of threat.  

The next step would be to kill Shoto. Dabi made it very clear that he doesn’t give a damn about his family and would be more than happy to use them to achieve his goals. If Shoto dies, Endeavor would be left with no one to carry his legacy. Shoto seems to acknowledge this and has to come terms that he will most likely have to kill his older brother in the future.

I feel like ppl still get Dabi's intentions wrong. I don't think he wants Endeavor dead or genuinely tried to kill him. And the crux of Dabi's issue isn't the abuse in the sense ppl often paint but neglect: he *wanted* to have Endeavor's attention and not getting it is what caused him to spiral. Not verbal or physical abuse but abandonment.

Yeah, Dabi could have easily tried to kill Endeavor during the war considering Shigaraki had done most of the work for him but he didn’t even try. His focus was completely on Shouto because his intention was to kill him and to ruin Endeavor. He wanted Endeavor to suffer for what he did and that’s why he did what he did before he revealed him to the world, to make the impact worse.

And I do agree that it was the neglect that affect Dabi the most (we don’t even know the extent of his training to be honest but going off Dabi’s words, when his injuries became apparent, Endeavor stopped caring for him like he did with Natsuo and Fuyumi). And really, I can understand why. He went from his father’s favourite to a failure and nobody important. That would kill anyone’s self-esteem and leave a lasting impact.

That’s why he resents Shouto so much, because he got what Dabi wanted.

I’ve always had the HC that Hawks always had a soft spot for kids

Hawks HC: He has a secret inner child that is just waiting to be let free. He essentially was trained as a child soldier after all. Take this man to an amusement park, bouncy castle, McDonald's Playland, anything fun he's just absorb it.

His childhood was literally took away from him, everything that a child enjoys and needs to do, he didn't. So this man would get excited over small things, things that usually kids get excited at. Just imagine him at an amusement park "oh my god look at that! Let's go there!" And he grabs your hand and basically drags you somewhere. "Can we eat this?" Shaped waffles, probably a popular cartoon character. Or, damn idk how these things you put in your head are called, but they are very popular in Disney for example, the Micky Mouse ears(?) Well, Hawks in those JDSJSJ and he'd like to buy every souvenir and take pictures😂

Prologue

Your heart was pounding fast inside your chest, your breath wasted as you ran desperately across the desert of Gedrosia. It didn’t matter that you were going to die of sunstroke, thirst or hunger, you wanted to escape. You desperately wanted to leave this place, run away from the people who were chasing you and didn’t seem to want to leave you alone from the moment you woke up bewildered in this… World, at this time.

Your only advantage at this point was distance, but you knew they would catch up to you eventually. Your back ached and was still dried with blood from the punishment he had meted out after your last escape attempt. He thought that way you’d learn not to challenge him again, but he didn’t seem to know you weren’t the quitting type.

You wouldn’t give him the taste of victory. He wouldn’t have you, at least not alive.

You groaned in pain and frustration as your legs gave out and you fell into the hot desert area. You looked around and all you saw was blue sky and sand and more sand. You were lost.

Tears of frustration fell from your eyes and wet your chiton. You knew you should stop crying and save what was left of liquid inside your body, but you couldn’t. Months of despair, terror and witnessing the atrocities committed came to your mind and your eyes were filled with tears. He did this to you. They did this to you.

You hated him, you hated them all. It didn’t matter that they were kind and welcoming to you at first, a complete stranger, none of that mattered because they ruined you. They could have fed you, given you clothes and a bed when you were lost but that didn’t matter anymore… Not after everything you went through, what you experienced in those months with them.

You tried to get up but your legs ached and your bare feet burned when you tried to stand. A snarl escaped your lips and with a lot of effort you went back to walking through the vastness that surrounded you. You would die. You were sure of it, if not for the desert at his hand.

You preferred the first option. Even if dying of thirst, hunger, heat or cold is bad… You knew you were better than you dared to think about what they would do as soon as they laid their hands on your body. Fuck, you’d rather rot than allow yourself to be touched by him again. He would never lay hands on you again, you mentally swore to yourself.

You cursed the heavens as you felt your vision darken, your body weak and in need of sustenance. You knew you couldn’t walk any further, your legs burned with every step you took and your vision grew darker and darker.

Your eyes struggled to open when you heard the sounds of horses approaching and you cursed yourself and kept trying to walk, but it was too painful. He was close. You screamed in frustration as your body gave out and you were forced to sit on the hot sands. You couldn’t go any further, you didn’t have the strength.

Your tears fell once more as the noise of voices and horses approached you.

“That was it,” you thought as you choked on your tears. You prayed to whatever gods were listening but your prayers went unanswered. Your eyes closed as you felt a horse neigh loudly behind you and then its rider descended. Your skin shivered as he touched you, taking your aching body in his arms.

“I found you.” He purred, touching your face gently with his callused, battle-scarred hands.

You didn’t respond and just let him carry you on his lap and you didn’t even react when he forced you to mount the stallion in front of you and you ignored the presence of his generals. Those who were once like your friends.

He would always find you. Alexander the Great would never let you go. He would never let his Queen escape.

How to Draw and Design Gryphons and Hippogryphs by using photo references of eagles, lions and horses?

Draw everything individually, from multiple angles.

It's like juicing up for a very tasty dream by consuming your favorite genre, characters, settings, etc and hoping your subconscious combines them.

If the final result is your target, and you see your drawing arm as a gun taking aim, then references are your bullets. Fill the chamber with reference unless you want to play roulette.

Your first step in reference gathering is to be specific. Know what you want and stick with it. I searched specifically for African Lion and Gold Eagle. Being specific helps you observe detail more accurately, and it already puts you one step ahead of generic designs.

I'm only going to tackle Lion + Eagle today for simplicity, but you can use this advice to combine two, three, or dozens of animals including horses.

Get your reference, and start practicing. Keep it simple and undetailed, only drawing the essence of the photo, rather than exact position and proportion.

Use action poses to practice! Even though they're more challenging, they will infuse your final result with action as well. Look up things like hunting, fighting, walking, running, landing, etc to get action reference.

Practice most on the creature you're having the hardest time with. That was Lions, for me. I even did a separate page where I studied the structure of their manes, since I wanted that in my griffin design.

Remember: you can trace photos as part of study! This is helpful for correcting proportions and anatomy. Make sure you are tracing mass and bones, not outlines.

Now that you're weapon is loaded with reference, you'll be able to design freehand without copying a photo. This is IDEAL because you won't be slowed down by anatomy. Now what we're here for: Design.

Creature Design Masterpost || Splice Vs Blend

This is going to be yet another visit to Splice vs. Blend technique, so strap in. Here's some guys I drew after I finished studying. No photos needed at this stage because I've eaten them all.

The most common creature design technique is something I call Splicing. You take pieces of animals and graft them onto each other with stitches. Griffins are notorious for this with their bird talons on the front legs and lion paws on the back. That's a creature that was formed through magic, not evolution. This automatically makes your griffin less believable. And probably a bit awkward in the walking department.

So here's a new challenge: Blending. Take bits of each creature and put them in a mixer, letting the ingredients land all over the place and amongst each other. What if we had a lion skull, with an extra-thick bird beak in place of the jaws? What if the lion chin was still there in the form of a tuft of fur? Maybe the tear duct from the lion, and the eyelids of bird? Let's give it lion ears with the furrowed brow so typical of raptors.

It already looks like a new life form, rather than a photoshopped amateur hour of recognizable animals. I could cover it in either feathers or fur and it would still be distinct as a new species. I want the classic lion mane in some form, so I'm taking the shape and turning it into long, fluffy feathers.

Don't stop there! Try identifying what traits make an eagle and eagle, or a lion a lion, and sticking them between each other.

Keep combining! Challenge convention! Add and omit parts and pieces to your heart's content.

Take this practice to all parts of all creatures. Throw new stuff in a blender instead of stitching it together. This especially includes color! You see a lot of spliced markings in novelty griffins, with a specific cat and bird. Artists get stuck on copy-pasting animal patterns because they're afraid the ingredients won't be recognizable, or they're just lost in the sauce of loving tigers they forget to actually have fun with it.

It's still recognizable as tiger and peacock, but much more compelling, wouldn't you say? Go for something unique rather than staying with what feels "safe." There's a million griffin artists out there, but only one You.
