Like, the tariff thing got us mad, but the 51st state thing? It's got us seething.
Liberals, progressives, even most of the Conservatives are all united on this.
We're sharing lists of Canadian-owned alternatives to American brands.
We're cancelling tourist trips to the US (one lady in a news story said she cancelled a trip to Florida for six and doesn't regret losing $1,300 due to the cancellation).
And if we have to go to the US, such as the couple who's selling their California home? We're taking Canadian flights instead.
Some travel agencies have seen as much as a 40% decrease in bookings of flights from Canada to the US, and it's estimated it'll affect at least $2.1 billion dollars of the travel industry alone (not counting the tourism side of things like Disney trips and hotel bookings).
I've also heard of people from the Commonwealth cancelling trips to the US to visit Canada instead, and the same from people in Europe.
reminder that it's never too late in the day to do something nice for yourself!!
couldn't get out of bed until 5pm? that's okay! there's still time to make yourself a nice meal or drink!
too stuck in executive dysfunction to do anything you wanted until 7pm? that's okay!! you can still start!!
sometimes it can be difficult to do things until later on in the day and that's okay!! you're still allowed to do something nice for yourself, no matter how late it is <3
It’s annoying but the way you improve yourself is one tiny thing at a time
(grabs you by the shoulders) you have to make room for new experiences in your life. you have to go through the unpleasant work of leaving your comfort zone, even if just for a few minutes at a time. because if you don't, your brain will trick you into stagnation. you will start to believe that the world can barely fit you in it. but that's not true. it's the opposite way around. you can fit the whole word inside of you. your task is only this: to welcome it with open arms
Y'all have got to get better at handling uncertainty. Sometimes two people will have a falling out and you legitimately won't be able to tell which one was the abuser and which one was the victim. Sometimes you'll encounter a stranger online who might be a channer troll trying to stir shit up or might be a deeply traumatized person trying their hardest to speak their truth. That person with the gendery vibes might be a trans egg or they might be a cis person who just does whatever the hell they want. You have got to learn to act appropriately when you can't know everything.
Not "humans are inherently good" or "humans are inherently evil" but a secret third thing (humans are inherently social animals which means that we're very good at cooperating and being compassionate towards those we perceive as being part of our community but we're also very good at being tribal and violent towards those we perceive as threats to our community and everyone defines their community differently)
Hi Mr. Gaiman! I'm a big fan of your work, and recently I've been thinking about making my own comics. I made a tester page last night and frankly it looks terrible. Do you have any advice for beginner comic artists?
The same I have for someone the first time they sit down at the piano, or write their first book, or attempt surgery, or try to cook for the first time, or walk a tightrope...
Keep doing it. That's how you'll get better. One day you'll be good, but you have to make a lot of mistakes first.
