what will it be, boss? the comfort of misery or the pain of change?
they dont want us to know this but the real cure to the agonies is to engage in shenanigans. tomfoolery even
get it done the weird way. do it in parts. do it “wrong”. do it “late”. do it scared. it’s just better to do it differently than everyone else rather than never do it.
I think this community as a whole needs to realize that QPRs as a concept get a million times better when you stop seeing them as something you need as an alternative or substitute to romance and instead as something you choose when you meet someone you genuinely really like. They are optional and you gotta stop seeing it as romance-lite when it's really friendship-premium
Like, the tariff thing got us mad, but the 51st state thing? It's got us seething.
Liberals, progressives, even most of the Conservatives are all united on this.
We're sharing lists of Canadian-owned alternatives to American brands.
We're cancelling tourist trips to the US (one lady in a news story said she cancelled a trip to Florida for six and doesn't regret losing $1,300 due to the cancellation).
And if we have to go to the US, such as the couple who's selling their California home? We're taking Canadian flights instead.
Some travel agencies have seen as much as a 40% decrease in bookings of flights from Canada to the US, and it's estimated it'll affect at least $2.1 billion dollars of the travel industry alone (not counting the tourism side of things like Disney trips and hotel bookings).
I've also heard of people from the Commonwealth cancelling trips to the US to visit Canada instead, and the same from people in Europe.
This is your daily reminder that autocrats thrive on hopelessness. They thrive on fear. They win when the people become resigned and believe that fighting back is impossible.
Listen, there’s simply no denying that we are on the road to autocracy. But, believe it or not, we’re not there yet. (Yes, it’s true!) We can turn back!
But in order to do that, we have to believe we can.
There’s an Eleanor Roosevelt quote that gets repeated so often, it’s almost lost its meaning, but I still think it’s worth revisiting in a new light:
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Don’t give them permission to make you feel lesser! That’s what they want! They want you to just roll over and accept their dominance!
Listen, I know this whole situation is so fucking exhausting. And wouldn’t it be so great if we didn’t have to fight so hard for our basic rights and freedoms? But these are the cards we’ve been dealt; we’re in this fight whether we like it or not.
So, do whatever you need to do to keep yourself sane. We’re in this fight, but we need to take it in shifts or else we’ll get burnt out and then they win.
Keep yourself sane. Find the moments of joy wherever you can. And remember that no one gets to make you feel lesser just because they want you to.
Hey I challenge you, if you’ve been struggling with something physical, trouble at work, relationship complications etc, give yourself the night off. I’ve titled myself your friendly manager and this is your approved time off. You have the night to not think of or acknowledge those things. Just be you, be at peace, get some rest, eat some food. Have a night for just you and your thoughts
IT'S NOT A FAILURE TO NEED HELP!!! ACTUALLY - ASKING FOR HELP IS ONE OF THE BRAVEST, MOST BADASS THINGS YOU CAN DO!!! SO, IF YOU NEED HELP, IF YOU'RE STRUGGLING WITH SOMETHING - THIS IS YOUR SIGN!!! ASK SOMEONE!!! GOOGLE!!! LET'S GET YOU THAT HELP!!!
I tap the mic. “Most people don’t want to crawl down your chimney and steal your dog.”
the crowd murmurs uncertainly.
“If someone wants to steal your dog,” I continue, “there are easier ways to do that. They don’t have to crawl into a chimney.”
Murmuring intensifies. People stand in their seats and begin to boo.
“People disguising themselves as chimney sweepers and stealing dogs is not a rational fear,” I shout. “Literally anyone could steal your dog. Why make sweeping chimneys illegal?”
“I have a list of chimney sweeps who stole dogs from parks!” Someone yells, throwing a shoe.
“You seriously think no chimney sweepers could possibly ever steal from a home?” Another cries.
“Only a dog thief would even want to crawl into a chimney to begin with!” Says a third.
A single tear rolls down my cheek. They are all so fucking stupid
This is a metaphor
