Finished Society Of The Snow And It Was VERY Good, Like, So Genuinely Moving And Harrowing And Touching

finished society of the snow and it was VERY good, like, so genuinely moving and harrowing and touching and so well acted. i am a little confused by the decision NOT to bring up the comparison of eating the dead for survival with the catholic act of communion, ie. the literal imbibing of the body and blood of christ. in real life this was brought up by the survivors, and it was one of the arguments that actually convinced some of the others that it was ok, that they wouldn't be sent to hell, etc. it's also an argument that as a former catholic has always made me understand the survivors actions, in a way? not sure if that makes sense entirely, but i just think it's something that's v humanizing in their debates about this choice—which the movie makes clear was very much a last resort. the survivors are eating shoelaces, they're eating cigarettes, they're eating anything but the obvious because they're just PRAYING they'll be rescued before they have to make that decision. the movie is full of catholic imagery and catholic faith and prayers, so it just seemed odd to not include that? it doesn't in any way lessen my praise of the movie, i'd just be very curious to talk to the screenwriter about this choice.

honey instead of romanticising neat little plans that live only in your head, you gotta fall in love with the mess, the challenge, the chaos of a life truly lived. it is so so beautiful but you’re so afraid of anything real and raw; you think it’s ugly and frightening. but it’s not, it’s not!

these are the habits you have to give up before the year is out:

worrying about people and things you can’t control

negative conversations with others

obsessing about what others think

lying for others

expect others to do what you want them to do and get angry if they don't do it

creating expectations on others

gossiping

making excuses for not taking care of your responsibilities

lying to yourself

putting your needs lasts

giving priority to other people's opinions rather than your own

letting the negative opinions of others affect you

limiting yourself

comparing themselves to others and putting them on a pedestal

giving prominence to people who do not deserve it

set boundaries with others but not with yourself

spending too much time on social media

habits you need to implement:

create a daily routine that you feel comfortable with and suits you

calming your mind a few times a day

positive affirmations and healthy thoughts

complimenting others and congratulating their success

letting go of things you can’t control

ending toxic relationships

more time outside

making yourself and your health a priority

self compassion and self forgiveness

taking responsibilities

more self care

beginning with a motivation each day

do what you need for yourself

starting something new (activity, hobby, habit)

not to depend on others and to learn to do things you want to do on your own

focus on the good things and not on the things you don't like

exercise and eat healthy for the sake of your body and not to fit into a beauty canon

getting out of your comfort zone

focus on building healthy relationships rather than being guided by false expectations of how relationships should be

be true to yourself and your values

not to sell or denigrate you for money or lavish gifts

So I made a post recently about having hope for the future and so many people were talking about how they have felt hopeless about the future so here is another reminder that the world will not end with us. There's always a way. Maybe it's just the stubborn "where there's a will there's a way" attitude I was raised with talking or maybe it's because this has all happened before. the world has felt like it was ending so many times in so many centuries and for so many people but it doesn't. This isn't the end, these are signs of a new beginning: failed attempts at criminalising transness are admissions of hope from politicians who know that we will all be seen one day, workers on strike signal that we will no longer stand for the maltreatment of labourers. You know that saying-things have to get worse before they get better? That's what's happening right now. Hope is a weapon here's another reminder not to lay it down. Change is coming

Little things to be more charming ౨ৎ

Little Things To Be More Charming ౨ৎ
Little Things To Be More Charming ౨ৎ

holding eye contact when speaking to someone. takes some practice but so so worth it <3

don't be shy about your niche interests!! even if people don't fully get it, it makes you interesting!!

remember people's names!!

accept compliments, don't go "oh noo you're too kind I'm so ugly I look awful blah blah blah" when people say something nice to you.

signature pen. Don't question it. every cool girl has a signature pen.

always look out for others, make sure no one feels left out when you hang out with a group, check up on your friends, etc etc

listen closely and think before you speak, that way you won't stumble over your words and appear more collected and calm! :)

"please" and "thank you" ALWAYS.

you don't have to be perfect at something to have fun. I'm terrible at golf (a danger to myself and others) but people don't mind and think it is cute and fun... a win-win for me lmao

dressing up? normal to you. Don't save your cute outfits for "special" days; every day is special and you deserve to look gorgeous. <3

Oh and sit up straight ;)

As always, please feel free to share your own suggestions and tips in the comments! <3
