Guys….

Guys….

If he’s gay, he’s gay.

If he’s straight, he’s straight.

If he’s bi, he’s bi.

If he has a girlfriend, cool.

If he has a boyfriend, cool.

If he’s single, cool.

Get over it and just enjoy the wonderful human being that he seems to be.

The exact same for Mile and the rest of the cast.

We love them for them and not because of some fan fantasy of getting to date them.

Portraying Reluctance

Others have commented on this already, but I find it so quietly powerful how the show addresses Porsche’s reluctance in his relationship with Kinn. For starters, he seems much more alarmed by the fact that it is his first real relationship than by the fact that Kinn is a man. There is no internalized homophobia, no time needed to “figure it all out” or admit to himself that he likes men as well as women. This episode solidifies even more that Porsche is comfortable with who he is.

Portraying Reluctance

At the same time, I like that they didn’t shy away depicting Porsche as hesitant to hold hands with Kinn in public. It’s their first time out together, for one thing, and in a society–heck, in a world–where homosexuality is still a taboo topic, it only makes sense for Porsche to pull away. We’ve been giving Kinn his due credit for grabbing Porsche’s hand again afterwards, but I think we can read into this even further. In other shows, this moment would be expanded upon. Kinn would act confused and hurt by Porsche’s pulling away, Porsche would continue to act anxious while they were in public, and the whole thing would turn into a much greater conflict (that would likely be resolved at the episode or become its own mini-arc)…**Just as a note, I’m not targeting media that portrays internalized homophobia or any sort of conflict surrounding coming out/being comfortable in public. I believe that all of these are viable, necessary representations–I just think it’s interesting that KinnPorsche opts to avoid this when it is such a popular plot/source of conflict.

Portraying Reluctance

The balance is admirable, and the show executes it beautifully: Porsche is hesitant, but Kinn guides him. It’s just another way of highlighting the greater balance that Kinn and Porsche bring to each other: Porsche provides Kinn the opportunity to be his true, free self while Kinn grounds and guides Porsche. Not only has Kinn been with men before, but he has also been in a committed relationship before. Both of these are unspoken but ultimately helpful in stabilizing Porsche. Porsche tries so hard to be perfect for Kinn on their first date, but Kinn is there to remind him that he doesn’t need to be perfect: a successful date doesn’t depend upon technicalities–it’s about spending quality time with each other.

Anyways, I just find it really neat.

Kinnporsche is breaking so many stereotypical expectations and I'm honestly loving it. This has definitely been addressed by people smarter and more eloquent than me. But i feel like it is worth repeating.

All of the times when i felt like Kinn would blow off Porsche's opinions, thoughts, worries etc by either mocking him or using sex to distract him, i was proven wrong. There's something absolutely amazing in how willing they are to sit and discuss their feelings, thoughts, actions and also how open they are with apologies - Which i think is the biggest factor because as a person in line to inherit the biggest crime family, Kinn, on a surface level looks like someone who will not apologise until you aim a gun at him. But we've already seen him apologise easily before and it definitely sets the tone for what to expect from him as a character as we move further into the plot.

Kinn is always willing to sit down and talk. Is Porsche? He can be, it certainly isn't his first choice but he definitely can be persuaded into talking about his problems. (Will it mean less angst in terms of Tawan Arc? Who knows?)

The point to my nonsensical ramblings is that, Kinnporsche continues to break the stereotypes we have associated with shows like this, and also sets a tone for a potentially healthy relationship in terms of open lines of communication. They wake up every day and 7 out of 10 days, decide to be adults and actually communicate. Which is so healing for my soul.

Everyone say thank you KinnPorsche for reaching the bar that was already on the floor and lifting it up for all of us.

An interlude to the power series

I was just thinking about how this man:

An Interlude To The Power Series

And this man:

An Interlude To The Power Series

Look like two completely different people. And that got me thinking about what it means for Kinn, the Theerapanyakul heir and his power.

Korn, in his (almost) infinite wisdom thinks Kinn's relationship with Porsche is the apple juice that'll dull his knife. My take is completely different. You see, what makes Ep. 8 Kinn different from the version we saw between Eps 1 and 5 is that this Kinn is being unburdened of personal pain and angst. This Kinn is being given the personal autonomy the previous Kinn did not have. The result? A stronger mind, a stronger leader. Now that Kinn is working on moving on from the shambles of his Tawan-Era self, he has the bandwidth to compartmentalise and stop being Khun Kinn 24/7. Which effectively means that he's achieving the public-private dichotomy that Machiavelli wanted for his Prince. He's stabilising his power and his hold on his kingdom.

Kinn is also developing what is known as Referent Personal Power here- power that comes from people swearing loyalty to you out of reverence/love. It's the sort of stable, long-lasting power that all publicists/campaign managers ideally want their clients to amass.

Now am I saying that his budding relationship with Porsche means only good things? Nope. Because this is where my analysis of Porsche's power comes into play. This newfound influence Kinn is indulging in is a product of Porsche bestowing that power on him. But in this contract, Kinn has signed away his personal and emotional safety to Porsche I fucking beseech thee dude DO NOT piss Porsche off . That leaves a lot of chinks in his armour exposed; especially to somebody as sharp as Vegas.

Fortunately, however, with Porsche (the Queen) willingly taking his place beside Kinn; Korn's All Knowing Chess Play is finally coming to fruition and - in ways that Korn didn't intend HAH! or (perhaps) even want - the Queen piece is now personally invested in keeping Kinn safe. And Porsche accepting his place as Queen means that Kinn is also stepping out of his Prince peraona into his King persona.

This is Kinn unknowingly working up to truly stepping into his own as the Don of the Theerapanyakul family.

Porsche Pachara is in love

It’s understandable that there are other elements of the show fans are anticipating but our titular character, Porsche Pachara Kittisuwan, falling in love for the first time in his life is not something to be missed or filler.

Porsche Pachara Is In Love

Watching Porsche’s desire to nurture their relationship and his momentary fear as he pulled his hand back from Kinn. They are all crucial moments of their relationship and Porsche’s character.

By nature or by circumstance of being a guardian. Porsche is caring and looks after the people he loves. The way he tended to Kinn back in the forest when he was cooling him down with water and pushed the hair out of his face. It’s the same way he prepares the sweet treats and feeds Kinn.

Porsche Pachara Is In Love

This new experience isn’t just being in a relationship with a guy. It’s being with someone at all. We see his shyness as he admits it’s his first date. His unrealistic expectation of what defines perfect and sadness that he messed it up. This is Porsche in love. Wanting to make memories. Finding joy and comfort from his presence. They are showing Kinn and Porsche’s intimacy on all levels.  It will also explain why Porsche will be so grieved and heartbroken as we suffer work our way through the Tawan arc. He’s given his heart to Kinn completely.

To be fair, this episode felt too good to be true. I mean, they look like they just got married and (if the series makes sense as I think it does) I think it's because they are in a moment of euphoria. Kinn and Porsche, both need these kind of moments, losing themselves after all the suffering, so they are (as I said before) HIGH on themselves, they want to be together all the time, explode every emotion and feeling, have sex as much as they want, lose control and lose themselves on each other... They are really trying to erase the whole world and make it all about just the two of them... They are each other's happy pill.

I think things are going to start to go down soon and they will struggle a lot when they get to face the world together as a couple.

Still trying to process this episode, to me it felt like a parentesis in the story, to show us what kind of relationship they have so they can continue with the plot in the following chapters, so yeah.

I am of the opinion that Kinn -out and proud Kinn who was introduced to the audience with a dick-sucking innuendo- is only hiding their relationship because of Porsche.

He woke up that morning wondering if they should tell people and Porsche wasn't ready. He asked twice. TWICE!

Porsche's normally happy wiggle feet on Kinn's ankle.

It's the first time in the episode where it feels like we enter Kinn's headspace which makes sense as it's him talking about Tawan.

But the fact, they just sit, have a drink, touching in the most innocuous way. Feels.

Not to be dramatic on main, but I think a lot of Porsche's need for touch comes from the fact two of the most important people in his life were simply gone in a moment he can't even remember. So he constantly touches the people he cares about and wants them to touch him because it grounds him, knowing they're there.

This. THIS is everything i’m trying to say and more. If we don’t see the development of them, we won’t believe that they’re actually strong enough to get through their problems that they will face and trust me, we need to believe it.

So I know people be asking the big questions about last week's Kinnporsche and what's coming up tomorrow (for me at least in GMT+10). But it has sort of been bugging me all week...

When did Kinn get his lucky gun back to threaten Vegas with it?

Can people stop talking about how explicit KP is already! It’s +18 show. It’s made for adults with an adult content.

Y’all gotta stop! So what? It’s alright when straight people have any scene they like and how they like but when gays do it’s suddenly too explicit for your taste? Like what’re you even on about???

If you don’t like it don’t watch it. Simple as that…

It's interesting that many of us saw the bathroom sex scene as Kinn's way of apologizing to Porsche but while Apo seems to agree with that, he also add (in the new BTS) that Porsche felt that he "was wrong and wanted to make up for it [...] He wanted to apologize by helping his significant other to release that out". So basically, this sex scene was a way for both Kinn and Porsche to ask for and receive forgiveness and honestly I love it so much I'm-

it's thursday and i can't stop thinking about how serial fucker, kinn anakin theerapanyakul, looks at porsche jerking him off, like it's the very first time he's experienced orgasmic euphoria in his whole damm life.

so,,, i was rewatching episode 5 as one does to deal with the fact it’s not saturday yet and when i got to the scene where kinn and his father discuss while playing chess the scene in episode 7 in the hospital with kinn and his father talking again suddenly came to mind and it’s fascinating to think about how much both scenes parallel each other and have in common in terms of kinn’s character development or more specifically the way he’s breaking free from the role he is supposed to play

image

in episode 5 kinn goes to his father because chan told him he wants to talk to him and kinn enters the scene like a lost kitten with puppy eyes afraid of what his father would want considering he had sex with porsche the night before and neglected his work the day after and he knows that his father is going to scold him and it’s something that always sticks to me when i rewatch the episode because i really like kinn’s little expressions here (mile is an acting genius wbk)

image

so he enters the scene with a stance that makes it seem like his head is weighting on his shoulders and he exales when his father very calmly says ’have a seat’ so kinn hints a nervous smile and sits while his father looks at him showing a little smile himself and here kinn hasn’t his jacket on and his hair looks messy he seems so small and powerless like up to that point we saw a fierceless kinn with flames in his eyes and little to no fear surrounding his persona and this scene is maybe the first time we see that vulnerable of him side he then shows in episode 6 when he’s alone with porsche and it is also the first time we see kinn actually positioned below his father and kind of scared of him as opposed to the other conversations they had in which it always seemed like they were almost at the same level and kinn always seemed at ease maybe just a bit intimidated as he should because he is anyway father an older person and the leader of their family so he should show respect always

image

so he’s lost and he tries acting as normal as possible but he knows his father can see right through him and his eyes express that sense of vulnerability he’s feeling trying to obtain his father’s validation they start talking his father seems at ease and starts with small talks and it’s kinn that finally breaks and goes to the point because he feels his father’s judging gaze on him and the moment they start talking about porsche and about what happened between them the night before kinn is not the mafia boss anymore he’s just a boy trying to justify his action to his father who’s scolding him

image

’as a boss, i’m supposed to take care of him, aren’t i?’ he seems so lost he’s trying to justify himself he just wants to hear his father say he did the right thing but

image

and kinn lowers his head once again avoiding eye contact with his father because deep down he knows that what he did was innapropriate

image

and at the end he says this, asking his father again what he should do, understanding that if he doesn’t want people to gossip about what happened he needs to be bossy and reminds them who’s in charge and punish porsche is the only way to do that

image

but then he says this and i think he says it because he wants his father to decide against the idea of punish porsche because kinn knows it wasn’t porsche’s fault and he knows he doesn’t deserve the punishment so it’s like he’s saying to his father ’are you sure we should punish him?’

image

my god look at this lil meow meow eyes he’s so tamed he just wants to obey his father and don’t dissapoint him it hurts

and the conversation between them ends like this with kinn visibly at loss and korn who once again established his power over his son

but then episode 7 happens and we hear korn say ’your eyes have changed’ and they have indeed because the way kinn is looking at his father now after being alone with porsche in the forest for days is different those days apart from his reality really did something to him and he doesn’t seem scared of his father and in search of validation anymore

image

(referring to the first picture of this post) this time kinn is not sitting opposite to his father but they’re beside one another and neither of them turn their whole body towards the other they’re sitting straight and eying each other now he’s watching his father how he watches everyone else like he’s sitting on this golden throne above all else if his father was the one looking down before he’s now looking up at him and it’s so important that he indeed noticed it and says ‘your eyes have changed’

image

kinn’s expression does drop only because it’s the first time he comes to term with the fact that porsche is changing him and the people who knows him are noticing it but he doesn’t break eye contact with his father he doesn’t lower his head he continues to look at his father fiercely and then his father proceeds with the apple and knife story which parallels the chess analogy he used in episode 5 and we see kinn reacts in a way that screams something along the ’what is this old man saying please shut up’ opposite to the chess game when he was practically shitting his pants for how much he was afraid of his father’s reaction and i love how opposite the two scenes are because now his father is trying to scare him again with his stories and lessons while what kinn gets from the whole conversation is the fact that he should work on his trust issues to be with porsche because he wants to be with him he wants to trust him he’s beginning to appreciate himself more because of how porsche makes him feel and he doesn’t want to treat these feelings as weaknesses but as a strengths and that’s why he accepts the apple from his father and takes the bite he’s accepting to be corrupted by the decision he’s making that could jeopardize everything he has worked for ‘till that moment and it all culminates with kinn escaping the hospital to go and be with porsche and gifts him his gun(s)

his father asks him to come back to his old self for the sake of the family but later kinn confesses to tay that he doesn’t want to be like his old self anymore he’s aware of the progress he has made and he wants to move forward

the two scenes parallel each other and give us an insight in the changing developing of kinn’s true character which i guess will come to its climax at the end of the series when he’ll fully trust porsche with his life and they’ll begin the us against the world act

was thinking today how one of my favourite things about the ep 7 sex scene in contrast to the ep 4 sex scene is that in the first scene, apart from when they are kissing, there is very little eye contact between them–kinn has his face buried in porsche’s neck, or is kissing down his chest, or porsche is facing the window. they are giving in to their emotions and desires and completely lost in them, but emotionally they’re not yet fully connected. in ep 7, on the other hand, after porsche turns around and kisses kinn, they are face to face and looking (grinning, ecstatically) into each other’s eyes throughout the entire scene. they are on the same emotional level, giving in completely to the shared desire and feelings for each other–the eye contact is so important for the non-verbal communication!

Kinn's (Lack of) Trust

Kinn could have sent Big or Ken to go with Porsche. (Sure they hate Porsche's guts, but they're the most competent among his men. And the casino fight proves that Big and Porsche can work together.)

But no, he sends Pete and Arm instead. The ones that defied his orders and tried to help when Porsche was drugged. The ones he knows would have Porsche's back should he be targeted again.

He trusts them to watch out for Porsche in his stead, especially Pete. And I know Pete's failed spying is played for laughs (I even stick a clown nose on him), but he's just following Kinn's orders: report what he thinks he sees and hears.

Kinn has been suspicious of Vegas since the drugging incident, yet he has no proofs, no way to keep Porsche away from him.

He must have seen red hearing that Vegas got his hands on Porsche, again.

I think a lot about Kinn's "what the fuck are you doing." First time, it's raw anger. He's in Porsche's face, shouting, overpowering him.

Second time, it's impatience. Kinn sounds like a mad man, and the eerie dissonance in the background is not helping his case.

Nemi (@luckydragon10) thinks that's a wake-up slap. I do, too. Kinn's trying to snap Porsche out of his daze (frankly, I think Kinn should snap himself out of his rage first).

He's trying so hard to keep Porsche away from danger, but the man just throws himself face-first into it. He doesn't know Porsche is faking it for the sake of his own investigating.

When Porsche says "you never trust me," he means you never trust me to make decisions for myself.

He's right. Kinn doesn't.

Kinn doesn't trust Porsche to take care of himself, doesn't trust him to see through Vegas' ploys. (Clearly, he's wrong. Porsche deserves more credits than that, but I get where Kinn is coming from, considering Porsche's history with Vegas and alcohol.)

Just, Kinn cares so much for Porsche's safety but he's going about it all wrong. And it finally hits him how much damage he's done when Porsche tries to leave.

Kinn's (Lack Of) Trust

No, he can't afford to let Porsche go this time. Not when he knows he'll be completely shut out again. Not after Porsche admitting he loves him.

Kinn's (Lack Of) Trust

If you told me that Kinn was in physical pain, I would have believed you. Kinn is trying his gd best to right his wrong here.

Ever since @iffervescent pointed out KinnPorsche's communication languages, I can't help but notice that Kinn is trying to apologize in the only language he knows. With actions. With touch.

But then he also tries to do it in Porsche's language. With words.

Kinn needs to learn to trust Porsche. And that apology is the first step in the right direction.

***

All right, I'm done sobbing but pls check out more detailed breakdowns of the scene here by @thatgirl4815 and here by @liyazaki.

Porsche drives me tits in the air insane y’all. Here is a man who’s a muscle matrix and a fighting machine, but he has the waist of a Victorian twink. Here is a man who wants to eat the rich except for one specific man who Porsche wants to eat him instead. Here is a man who has thighs that could suffocate someone but all he wants to do is spread ‘em. Here is a man who acts like if he obeys one (1) command he’ll die, but still wants Kinn to tell him if he’s allowed to come go out with his friends. Here is a man who acts confident and casual and fun, but all he wants is to be called pretty and pressed against walls and told what to do. Here is a man who hates killing but mows down a dozen strangers with his bf’s lucky gun just so he can get back to his regularly scheduled programming of good dick and cuddles. Here is a man who throws out affection and smiles like it’s nothing, all the while begging for someone to give them back and mean it. Here is a man who’s only ever had casual sex despite the fact that every cell in his body is craving the kind of love that would ruin him for anyone else.

Porsche is baby, feral, gym rat, pretty princess, hero, murder boi, party animal, mom friend, cuddle whore, touch-starved, repression extravaganza, moral pretzel, muse, queen, and Marxist dreamboat, all for the price of one.
