This might be obvious, but I feel like it's often misunderstood about Jesse's character.
When confronting the Apex and running away with Lake, his number does not change. They don't get his exit right away, it doesn't appear after this dramatic moment of him standing up for himself and his friend.
"But Yellow! It's about the pacing! It's about the drama of them running away!"
For one, Jesse's problem isn't that he can't stand up for himself. Because he can! And he shows us this!
"It looks like your punching wasn't doing much good either."
"I was yelling! It's still my turn to yell!"
He talks back after Lake mocks his approach. He puts his foot down and defends himself.
"Pft. You would."
He antagonizes Lake after the flecs outted them as a criminal. He doesn't bend to Lake's whims like someone who's spineless.
"You better not tell mom!"
He doesn't grovel for Nate not to tell their parents. Doesn't promise to make it up to him later, doesn't try to lighten this blow at all. The way someone would if they always played both sides.
Defending himself is not his problem, not really. It's not even just people-pleasing.
"Don't tell me what to do!"
"I'm not gonna be a part of anything like this. On or off the train!"
If it was? This would have been the scene Jesse got his exit. There's enough build up for it, we don't need the chase scene before it, we could still have the flex show up after Jesse's exit closed with Lake on the other side.
But it isn't.
"I've got you. We're getting out of here."
It's only after he reassures Lake that his number changes. After he promises to stay with them, to side with them.
Jesse's issues were about standing up for others. For defending other people, even when it wasn't convenient. Not about him.
(Shout out to @elibethqueen for this post, love you bb)

I would love to read anything you write about them!
I was going to lament the complete lack of longer fics centered solely on Dipper and Mabel's relationship, before realizing that I have, in fact, read one story like that. However, Dipper was so traumatized he acted pretty different.
This is also the story that convinced me I shouldn't read main character death.
I made a mistake in my Gravity Falls chatfic. I will elaborate on this when I’m not using my phone because I don’t feel like typing it all out with my thumbs. But it’s . . . I’m gonna call it “a major ‘whoops’ incident” because Rumble McSkirmish and Chutzpaur fighting should really be impossible (so maybe I lied about elaborating on this later) and yet they did it anyway . . . All I have to say for myself is Whoops. (Idk how to have italics here or if I need to copy paste or what)
Edit: I wrote this when I was tired so it makes very little sense.
If I disappear from updating my fics just assume I’ve picked up a new fandom and have been reading 1 million fics of it. And probably written at least one work anonymously for it. I actually have a story that I personally find hilarious about this new fandom (new for me, it’s like two decades old lol) that I’ll reblog this post with. But not right now because I don’t feel like it.
Let me explain.
So I have so many stories that it's hard to keep track. It doesn't help that some of these stories have multiple documents: one for the actual story and one for the notes and outlines and such. Recently, I've been coming up with a bunch of new stories. I want to write them all eventually, but I also want to finish the ones that I already have. So I decided that to organize my stories, I should create another document! It is called "List of Stories." It is exactly what it sounds like. I have it organized by fandom (there's also a section for crossovers and a section for one-shots) and I put the title of the story or series, then below that, I put the titles of all of the documents that are a part of that story or series, and then, depending on the story I'll put a brief description of it. (One of the descriptions is just "crack narration." I haven't posted that particular story yet.)
Now, the name of my documents often don't match the name of the actual story. This is partly because of Not Wanting People Who Might See My Documents To Realize That I'm Writing Fanfic (even though anyone who might see my documents will most likely already know that, lol), partly me being embarrassed about the titles (again, because fanfic), and partly me being secretive for no reason. So I don't remember exactly what I named all the documents. (Or, at least, the names are vague enough that I'm double checking the documents just in case.)
So I'm clicking on these documents to double check that I'm putting the right ones. There's an AU I came up with several months ago - I'm not going to say which one, though I've mentioned it on here before - that I had a little bit written of. I clicked on the document for the notes/outlines and part of my notes was "Things Pacifica thinks are normal but are not."
Now, it's been a few months since I opened that fic. I've been focusing on other stories. But underneath that heading I just mentioned was...
Butler hunting. The Northwests are cannibals.
I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that. But it's going in the story when I finally write it. It's so horrifically messed up but so ridiculous that I'm laughing as I write this, because what was I thinking??!!
Anyway. That's my ramble for the day.
Currently writing a character study of Samantha. It'll be part of the series. She's a hard character to figure out but that just makes it more fun tbh
I was listening to Complicated by Avril Lavigne earlier and I think the song fits Jesse really well. Then I thought about writing a story that’s just canon, but from his perspective. Probably some before and after canon too. Then I thought about doing it for more characters; Tulip definitely, Grace probably, and Ryan and/or Min-Gi. Maybe Simon. Probably not Lake (unfortunately) because she’s the focus of a different one of my stories (We Only Broke The Train A Little Bit (More Than You) ) but I love all these characters and am Not Normal about them.
Oh dear
Ohhhhh dear
GF/Avatar crossover where maybe there’s another portal or something, and Dipper and Mabel get taken in by Iroh while Zuko gets taken in by Stan
Iroh: helps Dipper handle his anxiety, teaches him and Mabel meditation techniques and tea, patiently indulges Mabel when she wants to put flowered braids in his hair
Stan: ABSOLUTE CHAOS, totally cool with Zuko stealing stuff, tricks him into turning himself into an attraction with his fire bending, probably teaches him some boxing techniques to become even more dangerous
As someone with a few years experience in martial arts with sparring, I would like to explain some
yelp of pain--like "ah!" And then a groan like "ohh" as the nausea hits
Curl protectively over their gut
Arms out to stop any incoming punches
After expelling air from the impact, they may not be able to breathe in. They may just lose some of their wind, or all of it.
If whumpee is trained (or used to it!) they may know to breathe out a little on impact, softening the blow and reducing the amount of air they lose
It hurts, so victim is going to be at least grimacing and guarding their stomach
Losing your wind is disorienting and panic-inducing, even for someone with training
A hard enough punch may be enough to drop whumpee, especially if: they are skinny (less padding), their body is trying to conserve oxygen (like they lost ALL their wind at once), they are panicked/outmatched (to protect themselves), or they're going to puke
Puking can also happen a bit afterward
Og Treehouse gang was fucking broke. They’re broke as fuck. They live in a goddamn treehouse with only one room, they don’t even have a bathroom. They Barely scrape by with numerous odd jobs around town. They survive by eating copious amounts of suspicious stew. Power of found family friendship can’t pay the damn bills.
