Do you think Grrm hates Rhaenyra? I keep seeing this ever since he wrote that post.

See I don't think GRRM hates any of his characters, but especially not Rhaenyra. I can understand how people can interpret it that way to an extent, but it's very obvious he doesn't hate her.

In F&B, GRRM purposely writes it from the perspective of biased men, so of course Rhaenyra is portrayed badly. She's written by Munkin, Eustace, and Mushroom to be a negative example of women in power.

However, GRRM's MO has pretty much always been tackling medieval stereotypes and prejudices. Xenophobia, hatred of bastards, ableism, and sexism are all prevalent themes in ASOIAF. However, just because these themes are portrayed doesn't mean GRRM shares these views; in fact he uses ASOIAF to point out how destructive and wrong those ideas are.

Rhaenyra's story was written to show the destructive nature of the patriarchy. She as a character is meant to be morally gray and hated by historians. She's reflective of how history views ruling queens; she's demonized, wrongfully blamed, and disregarded.

The way readers are introduced to Rhaenyra is through people who hate her for being a woman who fought for her birthright. The way GRRM wrote his latest post about her is still from that perspective. People who claim he hates her are people who are unable to separate his actual views from those of his characters.

also i thought i would add something to this post of mine while i'm working on a new blurb

i have seen so many people on tiktok (men. of course it's men) that have done a "cosplay" of the menendez brothers (nicholas and erik) for this year's halloween. the comments? "yk what hell yeah", "imma take both", etc etc. not a single hate comment in sight. people found it fun, a way of showing appreciation for the actors & the show itself... for me, it is still disgusting.

the edits. the edits of nicholas and cooper as lyle and erik. sexualising them, basically ━ sexualising the "characters", the people who went through abuse and killed their parents in self defence.

but when nicholas takes a picture with ━ probably ━ fans or friends who dressed up as them, everyone tries to... cancel him? oh i just have to fucking laugh.

i might get hate for this, but i think he probably didn't think it would be offensive. i feel like he has so much respect for the brothers, even if he might not show it ━ HIM NOT WANTING TO MEET WITH LYLE DOES NOT MEAN HE DOESN'T STAND BY THEM ━ he's just not as open about it.

he doesn't owe shit to any of the super sensitive twitter people. i'm pretty sure he had no bad intentions. he could have refused to take the picture, of course. but he probably laughed it off and didn't think it was a big deal...

people just hate to hate ━ nicholas has gotten popular, he's handsome and a genuinely sweet guy ━ and people just hate it when someone is rich, successful and hot asf.

and... i'm not a dickrider because again i don't know this guy personally, i just happen to write stuff about him and his character. but i think he's such a sweet soul, but he's made mistakes that he has to take responsibility for.

but.

i stand with menendez brothers. i stand with them since 2020, watched every single one of their trials, it's not okay to dress as them for fucking halloween. they're abuse victims. they're REAL people who have to be free. menendez brothers slander won't be accepted on this blog (if you don't stand by them you're a terrible. fucking. person & just block me already).

Rhaenyra moving to Dragonstone

One thing I've seen Team Green people say time and time again when it comes to Rhaenyra and whether she should be Queen or not, is that she moved to Dragonstone, so therefore she wasn't actually serious about being Viserys' heir.

And, like, did you watch the same show I did?

Alicent, Otto, and Crispy abused the Velaryon boys (they ARE Velaryon, and to say otherwise means you're kidding yourself and you know it. Adopted children are just as valid as biological children), and saw them as sub-human, and raised the Targtowers to view their nephews as not only lesser than them, but not even fucking human.

Alicent also made sure that everyone in the Red Keep be reminded every minute of every hour of every day of every week that the Velaryon boys were most likely bastards (most likely!!!!!! It was never confirmed!! It was all just suspicions! Suspicions that yes, were true, but no, were never confirmed. And even now, after S2, they were confirmed to us, but only to the audience - not Alicent or the Targtowers or any of the Lords and Ladies of Westeros). And those who didn't really have a reason to hate Rhaenyra or her children, were still constantly being told that they should, because Jace and Luke were most likely bastards - and I'm sure that did change the views of a very significant amount of people, and had them either go along with the abuse or happily turn a blind eye.

So it's no wonder why Rhaenyra took her children and moved to Dragonstone!! People in real life will move houses and school districts if their child/children are being heavily bullied at school. And Jace and Luke - two innocent children who were only 7 and 8(!!!!!!) - were being bullied and abused every second they were outside of their rooms or when they weren't right next to Viserys: not in the same room, but right next to him. They weren't being bullied 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (NOT that that diminishes the bullying of children at school), but rather any second that they were outside the comforts of their family chambers.

So, did Rhaenyra move to Dragonstone? Yes!

Did she do it because she didn't take her role as heir seriously? No!

Are people who say otherwise deluding themselves? Taking into account that Rhaenyra straight up says they're moving to Dragonstone to protect her boys, yes! They are!
