I Wonder What Identity The Democrats Are Going To Try To Build For Themselves This Time Around?

I wonder what identity the Democrats are going to try to build for themselves this time around?

Like, yeah, they could just fall right back into the same #Resist! schtick they fell into last time, but that really had a lot to do with the rising tide of socially "progressive" social democratism that has really been shunned by the party writ large within the last 4 years. All your "#SQUAD" types turned into the same neoiberal-neoconservative beaurocrats that have defined the party since the Clintons.

So that really leaves the question of just where the Hell they're going to go now that they don't have the White House, the Senate, or the House anymore. The smug veneer of command doesn't work so well when you don't have any power.

Let It Burn

Let It Burn

In the heart of Washington, D.C., the air was thick with tension as Kamala Harris sat in her office, surrounded by the memories of a life once filled with laughter and love. The walls, adorned with accolades and reminders of her achievements, seemed to close in on her as she awaited Y/n’s arrival. Today would change everything.

Y/n entered the office, the subtle clatter of heels echoing in the quiet space. Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, Kamala saw the familiar warmth that had first drawn her to Y/n. But today, that warmth felt distant, replaced by an air of resolve that made Kamala’s stomach twist.

“Y/n, I—” Kamala began, but Y/n held up a hand, cutting her off gently.

“Kamala, we need to talk.” The strength in Y/n’s voice silenced the room, bringing the weight of impending heartbreak into stark focus.

As they settled into the plush chairs opposite each other, Y/n took a deep breath. “I’ve been thinking a lot about us...about our family.” There was a tremor in Y/n's voice, one that didn’t go unnoticed by Kamala. “The kids...they need stability, and they need both of us, not just parts of us.”

Kamala’s heart sank, knowing this conversation had been looming for some time. Juggling her role as vice president and being a partner and mother had become increasingly challenging. “I know things have been tough,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. “But I’m doing this for our future.”

Y/n shook their head, a sadness etched across their features. “Is that really what you think? That your job comes before us? Before them?” They reached into their bag, pulling out a manila envelope. “I can’t keep pretending that everything is okay when it’s not.”

With trembling hands, Y/n slid the envelope across the table towards Kamala. The gravity of the moment struck Kamala like a physical blow. She opened it slowly, her eyes scanning the pages. Divorce papers. The words blurred as tears threatened to spill. “Y/n, please… let’s talk about this.”

“There’s nothing left to discuss. I can’t raise our kids alone while you’re consumed by your career,” Y/n said, their voice heavy with emotion. “They want to live with me. They need more than what you can give right now.”

Kamala felt her chest tighten, the reality of the situation crashing down on her. “You know how much I love them. I’m doing this for our future!” she pleaded, desperation creeping into her tone.

“But at what cost, Kamala?” Y/n’s voice cracked, the pain evident in their eyes. “You’re here, but you’re not really here. The kids feel it, and so do I. I need to prioritize them, and I can’t do that if you’re always chasing a dream that takes you further away from us.”

The silence that hung between them was thick and suffocating. Kamala wanted to argue, to fight for her marriage, but deep down, she knew Y/n was right. The late nights, the missed family dinners, and the increasing distance had created a rift that felt impossible to bridge.

“Please don’t do this,” Kamala finally whispered, her voice breaking.

Y/n looked at her, a mixture of sorrow and determination in their gaze. “I have to, Kamala. For the kids. For my own sanity.” They paused, taking a deep breath, trying to remain steady amidst the turmoil. “I hope one day you can understand.”

As Y/n gathered their things, preparing to leave the office—and the life they had built together—Kamala felt the weight of her choices pressing down upon her. In the pursuit of her ambitions, she had lost sight of what truly mattered. As the door clicked shut behind Y/n, leaving her alone in the silence of the office, Kamala Hart bordered on the edge of her career and her heart, caught in the painful realization of what she had sacrificed.

In the coming weeks, the impact of the divorce would echo through her life, a reminder that no amount of success could fill the void left by the love and family she had taken for granted. And as she sat in solitude, staring at the framed photographs that once brought her joy, she understood that this was just the beginning of a long journey of healing and reflection, one that would test her in ways she never anticipated.

I had to block so many Alicent stans bulldozing my posts lately but I need to vent. Yes, Alicent is a product of her father, yes her marriage to Viserys was traumatic, yes the way her council and her own son are treating her is awful.

Here's why I don't have a shred of empathy for her: she chose, actively, of her own volition, not manipulated by her father or husband, not pushed to it by whatever trauma, to slutshame Rhaenyra over and over, and chose, actively, to raise her sons to believe they are better than women simply because they're men. That is a choice. Don't tell me she was protecting her children because Rhaenyra would have killed them when she became queen. Rhaenyra said in front of all of ther father's council that she wanted her son and Alicent's daughter to marry. She wanted to bind both families even more. Kinslaying is a curse that Rhaenyra would have no reason to invoke if they hadn't stolen her crown. All those arguments of Rhaenyra hating her brothers stem from nothing. She literally ignored them 99% of the time, they're the ones who were obsessed with her and her kids because of Alicent's poison. Rhaenyra just saw her brothers as kids. If she hated them she wouldn't have let her sons near them. Alicent chose to torment Rhaenyra to the point where her sons only call their sister "the whore of Dragonstone" and that is not something that was imposed on her by a flawed system, that was a choice on her part.

She also chose to abuse Rhaenyra's sons for their birth. Bigotry against bastards still exists to this day. There are countries where bastards weren't allowed a last name until the last couple decades, that's how recent it is, GRRM didn't invent that. And that's just the legal repercussions, the social ones are worse. I don't take that hate lightly. Alicent chose to remind the whole of the Red Keep over and over to keep calling those children bastards. She made them feel unsafe in their own home. She chose to make her sons hate their nephews and torment them for being bastards. That was a choice that wasn't pushed on her, she did that all on her own.

I have been slutshamed and abused by women like Alicent my whole life. And guess what, the patriarchy those women suffered under? We're all suffering under it. Some of us chose not to take it out on other women. And some of us chose to pander to the man and uphold the patriarchy like it's their life's purpose. Is Alicent a complex nuanced character? I would argue yes actually. She was a victim of certain circumstances and guilty of others. She's quite realistic. She's every right wing woman I've ever met. And no I don't have empathy. She made her bed. She can die in it for all I care.

Also, I don't hate her anymore than I hate the rest of the greens. I'm just angrier at her because a man calling his ex a whore is like a dime a dozen there's so many of them. A woman calling another woman a whore? That stings. That hurts a lot more than anything a man could say.

One thing golden era Wattpad writers had going for them was that they knew the importance of a buildup. I'm of the opinion that the sexual tension is WAY more satisfying to read than the actual sex and quite frankly there is a serious lack of non smutty writing.

Like I really miss reading fics/ x readers that start from scratch. Meeting the characters, initial reactions getting to know them, the tension the jealousy the TENSION the freaking tension.

Looking and looking away when they get spotted, touches that feel like they linger but perhaps they didn't and they're both so hot for each other that they think it's wishful thinking. And I don't mean just sweet sunshine romances, darker works can have a buildup too but it seems like so much is just about getting to the smut instead of the psychological aspect.

Bring back the build up!!!!!!!
