Hi! :) Just before I go to read another piece of the awesome book, I must thank you for the interesting and touching article about Yuri´s best friend. This all will be also described in the book. I´m not there yet, but I have read about it from other sources too. How Yuri tried to do everything possible and how he showed an enormous courage to go against the establishment, this all impresses and amazes me. What a great man. And BTW, where did you buy this big pin badge with Yuri on it? :)

Well,i clearly needed to mention Komarov in here,as he was Yuri’s best friend.I am very interested to know about what really happened,indeed.Yes,Yuri was that type of man who wasn’t afraid to stand for what is right,and that’s another great thing he had in his charachter!

Two heroes and best friends united forever and betrayed by their ill-fated destinies: Yuri Gagarin and Vladimir Komarov.

Vladimir Komarov's death seems to have been almost scripted. Yuri Gagarin said as much in an interview he gave to Pravda weeks after the crash. He sharply criticized the officials who had let his friend fly.

Komarov was honored with a state funeral. Only a chipped heel bone survived the crash. Three weeks later, Yuri Gagarin went to see his KGB friend. He wanted to talk about what happened. As the book describes it:

Gagarin met Russayev at his family apartment but refused to speak in any of the rooms because he was worried about bugs. The lifts and lobby areas were not safe, either, so the two men trudged up and down the apartment block's echoing stairwells.

The Gagarin of 1967 was very different from the carefree young man of 1961. Komarov's death had placed an enormous burden of guilt on his shoulders. At one point Gagarin said, "I must go to see the main man [Brezhnev] personally." He was profoundly depressed that he hadn't been able to persuade Brezhnev to cancel Komarov's launch.

Shortly before Gagarin left, the intensity of his anger became obvious. "I'll get through to him [Brezhnev] somehow, and if I ever find out he knew about the situation and still let everything happen, then I know exactly what I'm going to do." Russayev goes on, "I don't know exactly what Yuri had in mind. Maybe a good punch in the face." Russayev warned Gagarin to be cautious as far as Brezhnev was concerned. "I told him, 'Talk to me first before you do anything. I warn you, be very careful.' "

The authors then mention a rumor, never proven (and to my mind, most unlikely), that one day Gagarin did have a moment with Brezhnev and he threw a drink in Brezhnev's face.

Guess what!I hope Yuri has really done that to that idiot.Yuri was right.And omg,I wish I could tell him that he was not to blame for anything that happened to his friend.Nothing worse than carrying the burden of feeling guilty for a best friend's death.I do really understand sweet Yuri's pain.It's clear that he might have gained some powerful enemies,after criticizing his superiors.Therefore,the reason for me to back up the theory that defends Yuri being murdered.Some people just cannot handle the truth and failure.It's very possible that they could have seen Yuri as dangerous...Poor angel,was no threat to anybody,he just wasn't afraid of standing for what was right.And probably that's what got him killed. :(

Here,see how close Yuri and Komarov were.How sad...Two heros betrayed by their own destinies....Komarov tried to avoid Yuri's certain death,by flying on the Soyuz himself,and in the end,he dies,and Yuri dies too,an year later!Yuri and Komarov story moves me to tears.

Right,as it is known,my Tumblr page is solely dedicated to Yuri Gagarin,but here,I must open an exception to this man named Vladimir Komarov.This man,was Yuri's best friend,and he gave his life in order to save Yuri!His ill-fated flight on Soyuz...omg,this man was brave!In his own words about going on the flight: "If I don't go,they will send Yuri.And we need to protect him."

Probably they all knew things were gonna be really bad,and the flight wouldn't be a success,but from this,to sacrificing his life for his best friend...WOW.

It is said Yuri knew the Soyuz was in no condition to make the flight,when he inspected it,and he spoke out about that.But he was not heard.After the incident,they banned Yuri from flying.As it was not bad enough having lost his best friend and feeling guilty for that,he gets banned from Flying,something which was his life.

I still say,these people had a vacuum in their skulls instead of brains.And I still believe Yuri was actually murdered.

46 years ago today (April 24, 1967) cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov was killed on landing after returning from a 1 day trip in Earth orbit. He was the first person killed during a space mission. His flight, Soyuz-1, was marred by trouble from the moment he entered orbit. Unfortunately, a lot of speculation, rumor, and outright crazy theories still characterize popular notions about this terribly tragic mission. Komarov’s death is like the JFK assassination in U.S. culture; everybody has a theory about why it happened and no one believes the official version. Actually the ‘official’ version is probably the most plausible and likely account. Basically, there were serious problems in the packing of his parachutes (both the primary and the backup chutes) and they both failed to perform properly upon deployment when the capsule was falling through the atmosphere after reentry. Without a working parachute, the capsule smashed into the Earth about 65 kilometers east of the town of Orsk, a town near the southern tip of the Ural Mountain range in southern Russia. The capsule basically flattened like a pancake and exploded upon impact (due to 30 kilograms of hydrogen peroxide which was to have been used for the actual landing but was never used). Komarov may have already been unconscious by the time of impact although we will never know exactly. There was a tape recorder on board to record the cosmonaut during reentry but the tape recorder was found completely melted. Komarov’s body was basically burned to a pulp.

Komarov was 40 years old at the time of his death and probably one of the most accomplished men in cosmonaut corps. He had already flown on the very risky Voskhod mission in 1964 and was the first cosmonaut to fly a second space mission. He was survived by his wife, Valentina, and two children Yevgeniy and Irina who were 16 and 9 at the time of their father’s death.

Indeed,I love to see him wearing his space gear!Amazingly gorgeous...What he was thinking...well,i would actually say,"whar he was feeling".Perhaps a mix of fear,determination,and anxiety,since he was going where no man had ever gone before.But also,more than anything else,he felt he was bearing a very special responsability,in exploring outer space,and the consequencies this would bring for him.Probably thinking his life would never ever be the same again.

And as I wait (im)patiently for my necklace with Yuri's photo,and for my Trial Flight Lesson,I woke up this morning,with a huge smile in my lips.The reason?

Well,maybe i am too anxious for that necklace to arrive and for flying,but last night,I had an extraordinary dream.Just a dream,people would say,but fact is,it was damn well real,and as I opened my eyes,I just saw Yuri's face in my eyes!

I did dream I was flying the little Cessna.I had my instructor with me,inside the plane.And suddenly,while I was flying,we both heard the noise of another plane,as if coming near us.I only remember looking out of the window of my Cessna,and out there,right beside me,I see a plane flying too,as if escorting my own plane.I tried to see who was flying it,but initially,i couldn't,since the pilot was looking at the opposite side,and consequently,I wasn't able to see his face.However,in space of seconds,as if feeling I was looking at him,the pilot looks at me.And my God,it was Yuri!He looked happy,with a big smile.But it wasn't for too long,as he waves me with his hand,nods a "yes" with his head,and disappears in the air.Then,I didn't see him anymore,and suddenly woke up.Despite that,when I opened my eyes,I had Yuri's face in my mind!

It was a wonderful dream,and I wish I would always dream about Yuri.I woke up with a really warm feeling.Now,more than ever,I want to take the necklace with me when i go for my flight.If this was not a simple dream,as it felt real,now,I know that wherever Yuri might be,he will be flying with me,when I set my feet on that Cessna.

So,I look up at the skies,and I only have three words to say:

"Thank you,Yuri!"

Now,what am I supposed to say about Yuri,in this awesome photo...?It's just to much sweetness for me to bear.His gaze....such a man...a real man...Perfection in human form,never seen before.

Yes, he was such a dreamboy! I saw some documentary just after his flight, when he was greeted by thousands of cheering people and he looked just like a star, like if the light was shining out of him! And the uniform suited him so well, don´t you think? And at the same time he was so humble and so friendly to all. If you had the "submit" option" here on your site, I would like to send you some pics of him I have found. :)

Hallo my friend! I just sent you a friend request. I hope you don´t mind that I´m already a bit older :) but I still feel like a teenager sometimes. I grew up in Czechoslovakia during comunism and the Soviet space program was very "in" back then. I always liked Yuri too. I think he was the very first socialist superhero and I would even say a "sex symbol" LOL. He was just so genuine and his smile was simply precious. I have once read, that somebody said, that" his smile lit up the cold war" :)
