“Storm be brewin” the bosun mutters, a tightness in his tone of voice. Back home, rainclouds meant nothing. But on the sea they mean something entirely different.
Back home they mean a warm fireplace. They mean family together around the hearth with a hearty meal and a steaming tea.
On the sea, storms mean hardship. A weathering of body and spirit. Crackling fireplaces are replaced with crackling thunder and lightning. Winds that stir up swells taller than mountains.
It’s here where sailors get separated from landlubbers to salty dogs. It’s here a sailor truly understands the meaning of “Hold Fast".
