I love solving mathematical problems. They calm me and cheer me up. They are like meditation to me.

I’m missing them a lot this week. I'm currently writting a paper and is quite urgent, so I don't have time for them. It isn't that I hate writting, I actually quite enjoy it. But it's been a terrible week and I miss my maths.

It’s all about statistics today.

I know I used to give more extensive and more detailed explanations of what I was doing/studying but since I’m sitting for three exams in three weeks I’m not spending a lot of time online… I also will be sitting for some final exams in about a month or so, so I’m already preparing them and that only takes a lot of time and effort.

Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.

“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.

If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.

if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.

thats how that works.

“The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can’t.”

Throwback to last year at the Louvre when I saw a little girl sitting on the ground looking up to the statue of the goddess Athena. Probably the most Renaissance-like and powerful picture I ever took.

AERIAL SHOTS OF SOUTH AFRICA, ZACK SECKLER

This stunning photo-essay by New York City-based photographer, Zack Seckler, took him seven consecutive days to photograph over 2,000 miles of South African terrain. The end result is a breathtaking look at Africa’s majestic landscapes, colors, and creatures that inhabit it.

Hi! Maths and celestial mechanics student here! 😊

I’m looking for more studyblrs to follow!

I’m an astrophysics student. I’m most interested in physics/astronomy/math. I also love books, plants, the beach, and pretty landscapes a lot. And of course I love nice stationery and pens. (These pretty much encompass what my posts are about.)

So reblog this if you are a also studyblr or are also interested in any of those things and I can check your blog out!!

Yesterday was hard.

I'm in some courses all this week, and I don't understand anything that 3 of the 4 speakers say. And I've just met the new PhD student of the department, and he's really smart and he's understanding most of the things. And on top of that my advisor is asking me to finish a big amount of writing. I feel really stupid and discouraged.

So, list of positive things to take into account this week:

- All of the courses are about PDEs and not Dynamical systems (which is my research topic). It's normal to not understand most of them.

- It is a great opportunity to see how people of other topics work, and what are they interests. You don't need to understand everything perfectly. Let go and enjoy.

- I learned a lot from yesterday's poster session, and from other students.

- Next year I would have a very smart PhD partner from who I could learn a lot.

- I am a slow-learner when understanding new topics, and that is okay. I could have other qualities that make me a good mathematician.

Abortion - destroy a life

Let me tell you what happens when abortion becomes illegal.

A mother is forced to go through with a pregnancy that she never wanted. She is constantly shamed and cussed at by society and her own family for ever wanting an abortion. This child once born is often used as a pawn against her. She is manipulated into staying in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship/marriage, all for the benefit of the baby. She is forced to throw away all of her goals, dreams and has to care for her newborn despite her personal trauma.

As the child gets older, it starts to understand. Mommy isin’t crying because she fell over, she hates her life. Mom isin’t being a bitch because she only cares about her self, she over worries about you in fear of you repeating her mistakes that she never told you about. Mom was never lying to you, she was protecting you from the ugly truth. The truth that was inevitable to come out.

The truth that makes you realise how unwanted you were. How you were only needed as a tool of manipulation, a litteral weapon against your own mother. The realisation of how your single existence ruined the life of the person you love the most. Thoughts that mess you up mentally and make you hate yourself.

And honestly? I cannot wish that life upon my worst of enemies. I would gladly give up my life so my mother could have had hers.

Stop telling women what to do with their bodies when it is already the hardest decision she will ever have to make.

~ sincerely, the child of a forced pregnancy.

Mythbusters Physics: Relative Velocity
Mythbusters Physics: Relative Velocity

Mythbusters Physics: Relative Velocity

The Mythbusters tested what would happen if a ball was shot at 60 mph off the back of a truck travelling at 60 mph to see what would happen.

It became a perfect example of the relative nature of physics - showing that velocity can vectorially add together. 60 mph in one direction cancels the 60 mph in the other, meaning a net velocity of zero.
