Shout out to Having an aspect of every one of this girls.

you know how there are moonbeam girls? the soft ones with curves and a smile that makes everything feel safe. the ones you could hug all day and be warm forever. the ones who have those eyes that feel like coming home and a voice like a warm cup of tea and a blanket

and the sunshine girls? the ones who know themselves inside and out and are just comfortable in their own skin and make you feel wanted and beautiful because them even looking at you makes you feel special because they’re so amazing and how could someone that radiant even exist

and then the stardust girls? they’re just so ethereal and every way they move makes the world a little more brilliant and everything they do is perfect and makes you gasp because they’re too good for this world and they can’t possibly be human and there’s just so much in their mind and all you want is to climb inside and revel at their brilliance

and the galaxy girls? their laughter is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen and when you make eye contact and they start to come towards you it’s like you finally know where you belong and they’re colorful and amazing and god how are they even here

I don’t tend to see Christians talk about this much, or in a very nuanced way, and I think it’s worth talking about. and that is that suppression and surrender are two different things.

suppression is the refusal to acknowledge feelings you’d rather not feel. it’s stuffing them down out of shame or guilt, or the belief that you’re not “supposed” to feel them, in favour of pretending that you don’t experience them at all. suppressing anger, for example, leads to long-term bitterness, grudges, and burn-out from pretending you’re a happy peppy optimistic Christian all the dang time. it is deeply unhealthy.

surrender is the active, honest acknowledgment of your feelings, desires, and temptations, without attaching undue shame to them, and then bringing them to the feet of Jesus and choosing to live by His Word anyway. it is not a dismissal of feelings but the very act of bringing them to light so He may show you what to do about them. 

surrendering to God’s way does not mean shoving feelings of anger or bitterness or anxiety into a dark crevice, or acting like you can brush off years of pain in a moment.

surrender is telling God you are hurt, letting yourself feel the pain of being wronged so that your pain may be healed by Christ’s tenderness and love. 

surrender is telling Him you are anxious, you are desperately frightened, and letting Him be present in your trembling, letting Him be peace and steadiness and unconditional love while you breathe and count and grounding-technique through the wave of panic.

surrender is allowing yourself to say you did not deserve the abuse, you will not stand for abuse, you will not return to your abusers, and working day by day to forgive your abusers and pray for them anyway. 

surrender is telling Jesus you are sorely tempted- to cheat on the exam, to cheat on your partner, to objectify your cute coworker, to talk shit about your boss- and allowing Him to lead you away from acting on it and into doing the right thing anyway.

surrender is the exact opposite of suppression.

I so often see this message online, explicitly and implicitly, that whatever you’re feeling is valid– and it is!– but then it just… stops there. if you’re angry, good, stay angry. you shouldn’t have to forgive anyone. you shouldn’t have to treat people with dignity if you don’t like them. nobody has the right to tell you to act in a way that doesn’t completely indulge your feelings. treat yourself. you do you.

I disagree. indulgence may seem like the right fix because it’s surely the polar opposite of suppression. but being a slave to your thoughts and emotions is no better than being a slave to shame. it is good to express anger. it is also good to place limits on your anger so you express it in healthy ways. it is okay to have a mental illness. it is also important to not let that illness define your very being, to remember you are more, to fight for recovery. it is completely normal to be tempted in a thousand ways. it is important to resist temptation and seek to do the right thing, and run to the grace and overwhelming love of God when you don’t.

true freedom in Christ comes when you are open with Him about all you are, and willing to let Him lead you through the maze. true freedom makes room for limits and boundaries, ones that will help you grow and flourish.

Yes, just like that you’re already close to meeting your daily recommendation of water intake (2 liters).

Wether it’s spending time with God or journaling, do something that gives you a mental break. Do something that lets you escape to your own world where you are not focusing on the outside noise. Reading the Bible is a great mental escape, it keeps you grounded and reminded of your purpose, value, and how much you’re ur loved. Spending time in the Word will give you an overwhelming sense of peace and pure satisfaction. Use that time to de-stress.

Journaling on the other hand is a great way to keep your thoughts organized and inspire creativity! Let your mind explore. Wether it’s writing down your dreams, a simple to-do list, or your dream life, use this time to relax. Also, you can use this time to remind yourself of your daily/weekly goals or just simply read your affirmations for the day.

3. Expose yourself to sunlight:

Besides the fact that sunlight gives us vitamin D, the right amount can actually improve our mood! Exposure to sunlight can help increase the brains release of serotonin (associated with boosting moods to help you feel calm and focused). So please, go for a walk in your neighborhood, open your window, workout outside, eat breakfast outside, just expose yourself to some sunlight!

4. Get your morning workout in:

This is a must! Not only is working out amazing for your physical health, but it is also great for your mental health. Try to get in at least a 10-30 minute workout! It is best in the morning because that means you won’t have to do it later. Do at-home pilates, some form of cardio, weight training, or do some simple stretching (all available on YouTube). Whatever it is, just get your body moving! You will not regret it.

5. Take a cold or warm shower:

What’s more refreshing than cold water hitting your skin after an amazing workout? Cold showers helps you feel more awake and increases circulation! For people, like myself, that are too afraid of cold showers in the morning, go a for a warm shower.

6. Have a healthy and filling breakfast:

Try to include fruits or vegetables in your breakfast. Fruits and vegetables are refreshing, and are full of rich vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants! Make sure your breakfast is also filling. When you eat a filling breakfast, it helps your appetite stay under control for the rest of the day! The better you eat, the better you feel!

7. Start your day:

Now it is officially time to start your day! Get in your zone and stay focused. Although there is a pandemic going on, that is no excuse to be lazy. Stimulate your mind! Work on a project, complete some assignments, plan a business, read a book, do research on something you’ve always been interested in! Whatever you decide to do, make sure you are getting your work in for the day.

Remember, it is okay to be tired, it is okay to give yourself a break, but do not let yourself sit there. Use this time to grow! Set goals for yourself! Plant your seeds now, water them, and watch those beautiful flowers grow in the future! Take care of yourself, you are important, you are valued, and you are loved. You will make it through.
