Wake Up, We're Only At The Start Of It

Wake up, we're only at the start of it

We're only at the edge of the ocean...

And there's eternity to go

And even in my searching

I know I'm only ever really just beginning

And even though your endless

Lord, my joy is in the searching of Your heart

Father, Your peace surpasses everything

All thoughts and understanding

As I trust upon Your name

..And even on this ocean

With the waves all crashing over and around me

I put my trust in Your love

For Your voice has stilled the savagest of storms

...So let Your voice that stills the raging sea speak over me..

Speak "peace".

What should you be reading to maximize your language learning?

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of literature we can learn from. Baby books bore you, but you’re not ready for any type of novel, so what’s left?

Here are some tips

For beginner/A1/A2 learners

Watch a YouTube video in your target language, then read the comments

you’ll already have vocabulary from watching the video, most of the comments will probably use that vocab

it’s a short enough text that you won’t get fatigued

the only downside is that sometimes people utilize abbreviations and slang terms, but even these are good to know

Read news headlines and if you find one you understand almost fully, try to read the full article

sometimes the vocabulary used is not common in everyday usage, but it’s a total win for an A1 learner to fully read and mostly understand any text

while vocab is not used everyday, it will give you the ammunition to talk about that particular topic

Watch Netflix in target language with subtitles in the same language

believe it or not, you will learn to read better, especially because you don’t have to understand written description of visuals (usually uses very niche vocab) or emotion

and now you can slow down or speed up

I watched DARK in German before I felt like I could read a book, and I understood 85% of it. This is because I looked up some vocabulary in the first episodes and they continued to use it throughout the show so it really cemented in my head to the point where I don’t even think about it. Now, I had to rewatch some conversations the characters had, but that’s much better for understanding than switching it to English or looking up full phrases and sentences.

For intermediate/B1/B2 learners

read fanfiction

it’s ALWAYS good to read about something you’re interested in so if you like any major movies, books, television, this is the perfect option for you

most people use relatively basic language and you can choose the length

find a comic book or graphic novel

like watching tv, that visual aid really helps with understanding of the plot without all those tricky descriptions

read a book in your target language that you’ve read and loved in your native language

this is by far my favorite way

you don’t have to worry about trying to understanding the bigger picture because you already know what’s happening/what will happen, you really have to discover the meaning of each sentence and then you begin to picture the scene using only your target language

Okay.

Heard Your Voice Lord through her.

Something I recently heard from God about:

Make sure you’re sowing into ministries which have fed you spiritually and make sure you’re being a cheerful giver when you are led, whether you’re in a good position financially or not. Actually, especially when you are not it is important to “sow your mites” and to stop thinking that you’re better off saving your money and pinching pennies instead of giving your firstfruits like you ought to. A Christian friend recently said something really wise to me “you have a special opportunity while in a season that you are struggling or poor to ‘sow out of your poverty.’ You will probably never be this financially unstable again in your life so show your faith now while you have the chance to make that display”

Something I Recently Heard From God About:

Luke 6:38 ESV

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-7

Kingdom living requires kingdom giving and I am not promoting a prosperity gospel in saying that, but just the fundamental ideas of sowing and reaping and supporting those working in the field/vineyard

Listen to me, your body is not a temple. Temples can be destroyed and desecrated. Your body is a forest - thick canopies of maple trees and sweet scented wildflowers sprouting in the underwood. You will grow back, over and over, no matter how badly you are devastated.

SOCIAL DISTANCING - STUFF FOR YOU TO DO AT HOME!

I literally can’t stress enough how important it is to stay home at this time if you are able to. We need to stop this bitch of a virus from spreading as much as we can. Do your part, be a goddamn hero. All you’re being asked to do is stay the fuck home. If you have to go to work, take all necessary measures, and stay safe. Anyways I was thinking of stuff to do while we are all home, and came up with a list I thought could be helpful, so here we go!

Spring clean your entire house.

Clean out and organize your wardrobe.

Try out different outfits so that you’ll have new options once you can go out again.

Organize your documents.

Tackle those taxes you’ve been needing to do.

Clean out your computer files.

Clean your makeup brushes.

Declutter expired makeup while you’re at it.

Organize your skincare products!

Try some of the face masks you’ve been hoarding.

Do a hair mask.

Follow that makeup tutorial you’ve seen on youtube but was too lazy to try.

Take selfies of that makeup look to register it bc you ain’t going anywhere.

Read that book you hadn’t had the time to start. Hell, read a whole book series.

Binge watch tv shows on netflix, amazon prime, hulu, disney+, or whatever floats your boat.

Learn a new skill online.

Take up a new hobby.

Try at home yoga/pilates, by following youtube videos or downloading an app.

Get some writing done.

Learn new recipes, attempt cooking/baking out of your comfort zone.

Play with your dog.

Learn how to dance??!! By following youtube tutorials.

Learn a new language through duolingo or a similar app.

Play boardgames with your family.

Or play a videogame.

Put some music on, light a scented candle and try to meditate (there’s apps you can use for instructions).

Go to your backyard or your balcony and soak in some sunlight.

If you have none of the above, open your windows and let the sun in.

Try different diys (make some slime idk what the kids are doing these days).

Facetime with your family/friends.

Start a bullet journal.

If you have the space, take up gardening.
