expanding a bit on the gods au from this fic
Foolish was god of the sea and Eret was goddess of the wind, they are both younger gods
They were friends at the beginning of time. Foolish had obsidian eyes and Eret had lapis eyes.
Eret was a very powerful god, Chaos (Herobrine) offered to take them under his wing (hah) and for Eret to be reborn anew and more powerful. Eret rejected the offer
The biggest showcase of love between gods is exchanging eyes. Eyes are the windows of the soul. By trading eyes, you are essentially exchanging a piece of your soul. Eternal duo did trade their eyes at one point.
Wind Eret was the one to make Foolish’s wings. As Goddess of Wind, they were the one who decided who could actually use wings to fly.
war ended up breaking out between the gods and Eret and Foolish ended up on opposite sides.
As a God of Sea, Foolish is very powerful in his domain but was otherwise pretty helpless when on land. He didn’t have his lightning powers yet
Foolish becomes a Totem of Death for the power it would give him, even though Eret tries to stop him. He trades Eret’s eyes for eyes made of ruby, breaking their bond.
Wind Eret being an enemy of Foolish’s side was bad, you can’t win a war if the sky and wind itself are against you, and Eret had mild prophetic powers which is even worse so! For the war to be won Eret had to die.
Foolish was the only God with wings who knew how to navigate Eret’s Palace, so he’s the one sent to kill Eret
They fight, Eret wins but isn’t able to kill Foolish. Foolish takes advantage of this and ends up killing Eret.
This is how Foolish gets control of the skies: he takes part of Wind’s power when Eret dies. This is also how he maintains power to fly.
Eret is then reborn as god of Betrayal under Herobrine. They are reborn with white eyes, completely opposite of who they used to be but just as powerful. It is then their mission to take back what Foolish took, including his wings.

I think one of my favorite realizations from my AtLA rewatch is how often Iroh was just vibing with the Gaang, even when Zuko was still trying to capture them. Pirate episode? Iroh's just standing right next to Katara going "yeah this kind of is your fault". North Pole? Iroh's got a whole scene with Katara and Yue. He even gestures to her to stay away from Aang at one point and she actually listens. Tea with Toph. Man truly spends the whole show vibing with everyone
When Zuko makes his iconic “That’s rough buddy” comment, does he know what happened? Did Iroh ever tell him about Zhao killing the moon spirit, and then Yue becoming the new moon spirit?
