Now I’ve never played oboe (my sister has) or bass clarinet for that matter so take this with a grain of salt.

That seems like it’d be a pretty big change if you’ve never played bass clarinet before changing from a double reed to a single reed and also how loose you have to be for lower instruments. It might be easier to start with soprano clarinet since it’ll have similar music to oboe, you wouldn’t have to be as loose in your lips, and it’s also just a lot lighter.

another reminder as I go to my first day of band camp - don't die. I can guarantee pushing yourself until you die will not help your section. most times it will hurt them. if you hurt your ankle in drill - take a few reps off. if you are in actual danger of throwing up or passing out, take a little break. drink some water. stretch out your hands, percussionists. it's to no one's benefit if you can't function

Our first football game was an away game and the stand were far too small for us and I realized that the reason was that the school was expecting a marching band that was a similar size to them which looked like 30-40 people.

We have over 70 people.
