One of the things that interests me about Wangxian's sex life is that in reality Lan Wangji must be soooooooo gentle with him.
Hear me out. There's this very popular and widely accepted idea that everything in literature is about sex but sex. I... don't really agree that everything in literature is about sex, but I do agree that sex is rarely about sex.
Yes, Wei Wuxian likes getting tossed around and bitten to hell etc etc and Lan Wangji likes giving it to him blah blah- They're horny kinksters and it's well within the realms of normal and they're obviously both fine and happy with it.
But Lan Wangji lifted a monolith WITH ONE ARM. Thousands of pounds of stone, lifted like a Chili's fajita platter. Wei Wuxian as Mo Xuanyu has a very weak golden core. He is infinitely weaker than his husband on a physical level.
Which means it stands to reason that Lan Wangji has to constantly be mindful of his safety and what his body can handle and be mindful of that even when engaging in rough CNC sex.
It's one of those things that for me highlights the care and reverence Lan Wangji has for Wei Wuxian as a person and as his spouse and lover. He spent years trying and failing to coax Wei Wuxian into a place where he already was, and in this second chance he instead meets Wei Wuxian right where he is.
I find it very sweet, actually.
Let me photograph you in this light
MXTX protags my beloved. Prettyboy table for the win
Bonus page:
Wei Wuxian using the Wen's attempted public humiliation and subsequent punishment of memorising the Wen rules and reciting them as a way to flirt with Lan Wangji by reciting the Lan rules instead is fucking wild
This is so accurate for no reason!
now that i've finished tgcf i can make memes about all three books! i was tempted to put binghe at the absolute center because he could easily go into any quadrant at different points in his life, and both lwj and hua cheng could swing jock, but i think the most important thing is that wei wuxian is all four at once. somehow.
it’s the way that for the wen remnants, one of THE most joyful moments they share together, possibly since the sunshot campaign came to an end, was when wei wuxian was able to bring sentience back to wen ning’s fierce corpse. that this cultivation method that wei wuxian had created, unjustly and with prejudice painted as an unequivocally vile, horrible, exceptionally offensive and dangerous thing... ended up bringing these persecuted people so much joy. wen ning, killed too soon for the crime of bearing the wen name, was able to live again, at least in some capacity. this wasn’t about creating a weapon, or making the formidable ghost general—it was entirely about getting wen qing’s brother back, getting the wen remnant’s beloved member back and i do consider it one of the most moving parts of the books in general.
This idea that none of the great clans could offer the Wen Remnants protection because it would lead to war is so ridiculous.
People always throw out this excuse to defend Jiang Cheng, Lan Xichen, and Nie Mingjue for their involvement and complicity in the Wen Remnants massacre, but it's a complete bullshit.
For the Jin Clan to declare war on another great clan, they would need a solid, irrefutable justification. Look at Wei Wuxian: he wasn’t part of the gentry, had no support after cutting ties with the Jiang Clan, and his reputation was already down in the drain. Yet even with all of that, it still took the death of Jin Zixuan, the clan's heir, for the Jin Clan to finally have a strong enough justification to declare war against him. Declaring war on another great clan would require far more than that.
Taking in the Wen Remnants and supporting Wei Wuxian wouldn’t have sparked a war. At most, it would have strained diplomatic relations and potentially broken a few alliances and the Jin Clan would no doubt apply political pressure. But that's as far as it would go—there would be no full-blown war.
A lot of people seem to think that Wei Wuxian in Yiling Laozu era may be a weak and helpless man, because they think without a Golden Core he would be vulnerable.
But let's see the fact written in the novel.
Lan Wangji's hand strength is unquestionable. Bichen seems thin but actually a very heavy sword. Lan Wangji only guessed that WWX's spiritual energy is damaged, yet he thought WWX still has his golden core regardless. Conclusion: whenever Lan Wangji used Bichen to confront Wei Wuxian, it may not be a deadly strike but will never be light either, especially in Nightless City when Lan Wangji looked like he wanted to destroy ChenQing.
With the fact above, Wei Wuxian can actually parry Bichen's strike using one hand with ChenQing during their quarrels. So...if He is a weak and helpless man, his arm would have been dislocated or broken since long ago, unable to receive Bichen's strikes.
Next facts. During the Bloodbath in Nightless City an arrow was shot and embedded in his chest, yet Wei Wuxian shot back the arrow without using any bow, directly hit the culprit's chest and killed him on the spot.
Needless to say, how much the power used to shoot a cultivator on their vital and able to kill them directly. Afterward, Wei Wuxian was still able to play ChenQing, control the fierce corpses, and fought with Lan Wangji like he wasn't hurt in the slightest.
He was able to strangle and broke the neck of that cultivator who killed Jiang Yanli. A cultivator who has golden core and has their body tempered and trained, not just like any other mortal, had their neck broken using only a hand's grip.
In the condition when Wei Wuxian had just been shot by an arrow in his chest, and had just been lifted up from being grounded on the stone bed for 3 days by Wen Qing, probably hadn't eaten anything during those days and directly go to Lanling to see Jiang Yanli and directly go to Nightless City afterward. In that situation, Wei Wuxian still had that much strength.
So, even without a golden core, Yiling Laozu Wei Wuxian was still as strong as a cow, lol.
That's only his physical fitness, not him using his Demonic Cultivation to control ghosts or demons.
Yiling Laozu Wei Wuxian is never a Weak and helpless man.
Lan Xichen: Sang-di, are you the one who started the rumors that Wangji and Wei Wuxian were married?
Nie Huaisang: Yes. Honestly, I'm ashamed I didn't start the rumors while Wei-gongzi was alive
Lan Xichen: Why would you do such a thing?
Nie Huaisang: Stress relief
Lan Xichen: What?
Nie Huaisang: You know how stressful being a sect leader is. And who's going to correct the rumors? The dead guy? Or the guy acting like a grieving widow over the dead guy?
