When you take your kids to McWaddles, you have to take ALL of your kids. Happy Waddle Wednesday!
Do you think Kaneko's Seraph was partially inspired by Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody? I know some of Kaneko's designs had some subtle, tasteful pop culture influence but I'm not sure if I'm grasping at straws here or not.
Man, this would totally be a Kaneko thing to do. It is unusual that Seraph has four heads in the first place. And the position of the hands compared to Freddie's... this is convincing.
favorite demon that's just a weird little guy?
If... might have the best weird little guys.
Buer, too... but I think per the criteria I'd have to give it to Willy.
do you know what is the magazine that the artwork "emerged" comes from? (related, i feel so robed that this design wasn't used for cherub, i mean, do really like SH Cherub, but imagined having this creature in your party)
This is credited in Digital Devil Apocalypse for a magazine called "M2 Discovery." Pretty difficult to find information about due to its fairly mundane name. Its covers all say "Discovery" in romaji but also render it in katakana as "ディスカヴァリー" precisely (as opposed to ディスカバリー, which is how it is misspelled in DDA). It styles itself as a "Mediamix Magazine" (メディアミックスマガジン); the "M2" probably refers to this.
I couldn't find the issue with Emerge but this interesting cover popped up after I found the right spelling:
An issue, volume 26, from November 1996 with SMT2 Michael featuring a "Devil's Compendium" feature that's continued from the previous month's issue. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything else about the magazine.
I'm personally not that hot on Emerge's cherub as a demon design, but I feel it wasn't intended to be one. Kaneko with some greater artistic freedom going wild.
UPDATE: Added Discovery Jan. 1997 Volume 28 featuring Emerge on the cover, found by Vesk.
I'll never understand people using "it looks like a PS2 game" as an insult. Bitch, this is PEAK aesthetic
I rate the textures of kirby chracters in base if i think they are edible or not
Kirby
Soft, baby like skin, very nice to the touch
Edible meter: 10/10, probably feels like a bubble gum
Meta knight
To many scars, still soft tho
Edible meter: 8/10, the scars prob make it feel weird but yet still very edible
King dedede
Feathers, to many of them, feels like a plushie tho
Edible meter: 2/10, the feathers have alot of the fault, nice to touch not to eat
Bandee
I hc that waddle dees have very short and thin fur, like pitbulls and such, yet still nice
Edible meter: 7/10, the fur will be kinda annoying but yet still very edible
Elfilin
Fur, to much of it, yuck
Edible meter: 2/10, it prolly feels like licking a cat, no
Galacta knight
Same shit as meta knight but worse
Edible meter: 5/10, they have too many scars, like too many, probably still very edible tho
Morpho
I literally can't even touch it, it's literally translucent, how am i-
Edible meter: ??/10, couldn't even touch it at all
Morpho night
Prolly feels smooth, like kirby, not scars at all somehow
Edible meter: 10/10, if it doesn't eat my soul first it might be a good dessert, it prolly taste like honey or nectar ar idk how butterflys taste like lol
Dark meta knight
Has even more scars than meta knight somehow, it really can't feel good
Edible meter: 1/10, bad texture, no
Dark matter
Don't put ur mouth close to those things-
Edible meter: -1/10, if it doesn't posses u it will kill you bc they are poisonous as hell fr
Training with the crew.
With the Meta-Knights being skilled with such a diverse set of weapons, Meta Knight would definitely know a thing or two about them.
This is the only day you can RT this
For those of you wondering if this is a joke: it is not
you know, thats why metatron has a cross despite him being a jewish character.
This made me curious, so I checked out all the books I have that note Metatron's origin and almost all of them at least say "Israel." Metatron is in a Jewish angel section of Devil Summoner World Guidance with Sandalphon and Lailah. But then Pandemonium:
It says he's Christian, lol. The Pandemoniums are the only books I have that list origin via religious affiliation rather than geographical location, and this seems only for the angels. Sandalphon is listed as being from Judaism; it's inconsistent though, as Lailah's stated origin is Israel again. I would chalk this one up to a goof.
The crosses on his eyes and sash might just have to do more with the Messian/Center aesthetic than Christianity, though.
Official artwork from the Shin Megami Tensei series.
I've talked a lot about how the phrase "Biblically Accurate Angels" is offensive and inaccurate, because it's a corruption of Jewish ideas about angels.
But a lot of you may be wondering, "well, what *are* Jewish angels anyway?"
MyJewishLearning just published an excellent article summarizing and explaining the different Jewish concepts of angels and how they are described, and I highly suggest reading it if you'd like an understanding of Jewish beliefs surrounding angels. Click here to read it.
there's definitely a megaten influence in digimon, but there also a straight up reference of persona. this artwork of lucemon (a digimon obviously referencing lucifer, that it also has similar to that 12 winged louis image) it is doing a pose that is extremely similar to the one of persona 1 Lucifer's artwork
Well damn, Persona 1 Lucifer and Devilman Satan had a baby, it seems. How uncomfortable is that thought?
*designs kaneko has ever made
People always asks "what's your favorite demon design", but rarely character designs. In a series known for its "unique" character design (mostly Kaneko's). What's your top 10 SMT character designs, regardless of story? (doesn't have to be the protagonist)
I answered Aleph a number of weeks ago but to be honest? I might have to add that my favorites overall might be this ensemble.
Add Roland, Jimenez, and Zelenin, too.
Yeah I do think they one of the best designa kaneki has ever made (also dds:at is like the First megaten game I actually love playing and I want to finish first, I may even do new game plus, but I don't think I want to fight demifiend)

so, you do you remember isora, if not, it's the demon that i like to call "sewer fish" because the two that come to mind where he appears (smt iii nocturne and dds: at) he always appear as the swarm of sting rays in the sewers in those game. i'm just saying that he's the most irrevelant demon in the franchise (that IS based on mythology) and his design is awful, it literally just forneus' original design.
Of course I remember Isora! His greatest role being "grinding fodder for Matador"!
Look at this art that's totally Isora and not Forneus! Isora's appeal is a major factor that paved the way for the Persona of today. Spread the word.
are friends
except they far better aesthetically

Happy Pride Month, from your favorite Wing.
grown-up kirby & grown-up bandana dee :]
So… my boyfriend has gotten me into kirby recently and I was disappointed that there weren’t more depictions of meta knight as a bat.

i love popstar gang, the dream team, the main four, whatever you want to call them, so fucking much man
like. they weren't MEANT to be a team. both in-universe and in meta context.
these characters were all created for different purposes entirely.
kirby is protagonist, obviously. dedede initially was a bowser expy that grew into friendly rival role but not necessarily protagonist material. bandana dee was a nobody that was just a throwaway opponent in a minigame in original super star. meta knight was meant to be enigmatic "dark counterpart" of kirby and nothing more.
but then, suddenly, shinya kumazaki comes and recontextualizes all of their interactions they had in previous games into them building up bonds. until it culminates in them becoming genuine friends.
dedede's slowburn warming up to kirby has a satisfying resolution. meta knight's brief team up in amazing mirror now is seen in entirely different light. bandana dee's encounter in revenge of the king hits different as well.
this wasn't planned. this wasn't intended. this feels kind of messy and maybe ill-fitted at the first glance. but for a series where main characters' design was literally unplanned placeholder and was kept in just because they really liked it... it only feels the most fitting.
person of color: hey wouldn’t it be cool if angels were represented as brown or black more often–
edgy whites who went to a week of bible study 15 yrs ago and regurgitate all their Superior Knowledge from textually inaccurate all-caps tumblr posts written by supernatural fans: um…… ACTUALLY :) angels don’t look like HUMANS they look like ELDRITCH NIGHTMARES™ that MELT YOUR BRAIN OUT so stop giving them skin colors :) try a few animal heads instead :) don’t forget the eyeballs :)
Alternate timeline where Meta Knight is mistaken for the hero of the lower world, and Dedede gets mechanized by Haltmann Co. How would the climaxes of Triple Deluxe and Robobot play out?
That's an interesting role-switch! If I may, I want to ramble how that would affect entire plots of both games, because, I feel like both of these characters aren't TOO interchangeable for both premises to play out exactly the same.
Triple Deluxe
Meta Knight would likely not get captured, because he doesn't seem to have any sort of fear of bugs, therefore Taranza wouldn't be able to catch him off guard like he did with Dedede.
Therefore, Meta Knight and Kirby would team up together to go upwards to Dreamstalk purely out of curiosity of why said attack even happened to begin with. Taranza would realize that he done fucked up and tries to run away from them to warn the queen, but the duo will always manage to catch up and he would have to try to stop them with those classic Triple Deluxe bosses as per usual. When we reach Royal Road we would have to face against Meta Knight which Taranza briefly managed to get under control. Of course, this is futile and Kirby helps him out and breaks him away from Taranza's magic. After that everything plays out similarly to the actual final game, with few notable differences. Cannon section will probably be entirely different, since I see no reason on why Meta wouldn't want to fly out and try to slash those buds with galaxia, considering he literally has wings and he is about as big as Kirby. Meta then frees Kirby from Sectonia's vines thanks to his tornado attack instead of a hammer smack.
I don't think anything else would change, considering both Meta and Dedede are heroes in their own right, so their actions in the climax would parallel each other, with main difference being their approach to heroics.
Planet Robobot
Robobot is interesting, because, provided Susie is completely unchanged otherwise, I think she wouldn't have too much interest in Dedede compared to Meta Knight. She seems to have certain affinity for swordsmen in particular. Plus, Dedede, unlike Meta, isn't as impulsive so he wouldn't go out and try fight off entire army on his own if there are alternative options. So I feel like HWC would capture him as early as the intro cutscene and Kirby's goal would be similar to TDX's where he clearly knows that one of his friends is kidnapped so he goes out to save them as well as free the planet from the Invasion. Let's make it so he wakes up from the noise of the flying cage Dedede put into that leads into HWC Labs.
I'd assume he would become something like Mecha Masked Dedede and due to Susie's affinity for swordsmen she decides that "hammers are too barbaric, compared to the elegance of sword fighting" so she forcibly gives Dedede a laser saber. After we beat him, he falls off the arena shocking Kirby with Susie expressing general disinterest "Oh, I guess even Mother Computer can't teach barbarians of these planet some proper manners. Ciao" and leaves, leaving Kirby and the player for a while to believe that Dedede is done for. In the climax any analogue for Mecha Knight+ fight is absent, we instead fight Haltmann right away.
After Star Dream hijacks Haltmann's body and soul, everything plays out similarly up until instead of the Halberd, what shows up is KABULA! It is Dedede's ship, after all. Revealing that he is not dead at all and he spent all the time in his absence to repair it just in time to help out Kirby! Of course, Dedede does shocked expression as he realizes that instead of jumping into Kabula, Robobot armor absorbs it instead, giving us Kabula mode.
Fight against Star Dream would play out similarly to Halberd mode counterpart, but the way it segways into final sequence is completely different. There is no lever for Dedede to pull. So he does the climax move, gives Kirby a lift with his hammer. With all his strength he smash the Robobot armor with Kirby out of Kabula and on highest speeds he manages to pierce through Star Dream.
Both Dedede and Kirby is later saved by Meta Knight who picked them up with Halberd.
