I've been thinking for days on end about how unappreciated Lee was and what he had to go through in life (I might even have a whole separate post about it because I need to YAP), which was already worsening my mood, but I feel like this was the last straw. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the corner, sobbing
Guys, we need to talk about how underrated Lee Van Cleef is and all the small details I've spotted on Douglas Mortimer while watching For a Few Dollars More.
Here's before and after El Indio told him about how the final duel would work.
If you look closely, and I mean, VERY closely (around the eyes), you can see that he goes from determined to hopeless very quickly. He knew he was gonna die because there was no chance of grabbing his gun before or after the chime ended.
Imagine what was going through this head; that he had gotten so far and did so much, but he still ultimately failed his late sister.
And just the emotion is insane to me.
And these shots where he finally sees Manco with his watch is tearing me to SHREDS. I couldn't imagine the RELIEF this man felt, and I feel like Lee did that so well.
Finally, this. The way he stares like that. He's disturbed, and he keeps staring like that for a solid three seconds until he hears Manco stand right behind him.
UGHHH I'M GONNA DIE. I LOVE DOUGLAS MORTIMER('S CHARACTER) SO MUCH ☹️☹️☹️
(I just dropped to my knees and almost screamed over this. Please send help.)
How I feel after being inactive for a while and then dropping this, knowing I'll probably disappear again
while I was doing your commissions, I was able to finish the art with Angel Eyes. recently I started to get involved in old westerns, and it was this character that I found particularly interesting. I think Lee Van Cleef is a genius actor.
me having fun drawing the perfect trio <3333 (I JUST LOVE THEM SM,,,,)
A tgtbtu AU that was beamed into my brain. Angel Eyes and Blondie as the angel and devil on Tuco's shoulders.
so embarrassing to have a favorite character honestly. like yes that's my specialest guy 🙄 yes i have 200 photos of him saved 😑 if i don't look at him or hear him talk every 2 minutes i'll start killing the hostages 😕 i think about him every day. because he's my favorite. whatever
Ways that Lee Van Cleef characters might have lost their fingertip (just guys I've seen and have ideas for):
Cudlip (Beyond the Law): Bit off by horse.
Ryan (Death Rides a Horse): cut off by Walcott for disobeying him, told it would be his trigger finger next time.
Mortimer (For a Few Dollars More): Old war wound. He usually refuses to explain it any more than that. (The full story is that he got a badly infected splinter and had it amputated. during the war. so you know. technically not a lie. He shares this with Manco apropos of nothing several months into their renewed partnership and Manco appropriately interprets it as a proposal and accepts by silently offering him his cigar. Which Mortimer takes even though he is actively smoking his pipe at this moment.)
Angel Eyes: Kills anyone who asks or acknowledges it in any way. (It was actually from a normal carpentry accident just like the real Lee Van Cleef.)
Fante (Lee Van Cleef) and Mingo (Earl Holliman) The Big Combo (1955) dir. Joseph H. Lewis
Watched an episode of "My Mother the Car" a few minutes ago and oh, need I say I enjoyed it?
Hey! I post stuff here that I love and my favorite old men! Down bad for Lee Van Cleef.
