Percy is a son of Poseidon. Unlike Thalia or Jason who are children of Zeus/Jupiter, when Percy was claimed, he was ostracized by the Camp at the start of it and only integrated properly after Titan's Curse. Percy watched the Campers revere Thalia where he was barely accepted and the Romans have an even worser treatment since Percy was a Son of Neptune. Plus he had to hear all about Jason's heroic activities which meant he realized he had big shoes to fill [Partly because he didn't have his memories so he doesn't remember all the things he himself did].
You also have to understand that Percy has abysmal self-esteem and given the sudden burden of expectations on him due to the Great Prophecy and such he was forced to conform to expectations of the other campers, Annabeth and so on when Percy dislikes being told what to do or being restrained and yet his fatal flaw doesn't allow him to just drop and leave the sheer amount of expectations attached to him.
So naturally, when he noticed Jason seemed to know to some extent what he needed to do as a leader and seemed comfortable in the position. Percy was obviously slightly envious despite being a natural born leader himself because he doesn't like taking charge unless he has to, but he almost always ends up having to.
Not to mention that despite everything Percy is used to doing his own thing but the fact that there were many other people than usual on the quest with the Seven and in group discussions, initially Jason's word seemed to hold more weight than his [Piper is self explanatory, Leo is Jason's best friend, Hazel and Frank are Percy's friends but Jason is a Roman Praetor so they had to side with their superior and Annabeth well usually she and Percy have very different takes on handling the situation]. Percy was obviously not used to needing someone else's approval for what he wanted to do, which may have been a contributing factor . And he isn't the sort to pull rank and go [I am the Savior of Olympus, listen to me] so at least for a while Jason must have made him feel jealous and a bit inferior. He's Percy, though, which means he can go along just fine with most situations; he is just that good at improvisations.
There's a post I need to make on how Percy views himself as not some hero but as someone who is just getting by, but that's too lengthy to add here. I hope this is somewhat coherent, at least.
We all know Jason was jealous of Percy, and in some way Percy was jealous of Jason. Jason finds out one day and is just utterly confused.
What could Percy be jealous about? He has a mother who loves him, his godly parent actually cares for him. He is a celebrated hero, with even the gods fearing him. He was offered immortality and on his own terms REFUSED. His siblings who share the same godly parent actually LIKE him. When he went missing, people actually cared enough to look for him.
So what in Jason's life would make Percy jealous?
i feel like we don’t talk about this scene from the titan’s curse enough, because i think about this a lot. like… a lot. the way he was just like ‘oh i can move faster than bullets, that’s cool’, and then immediately moved on and never thought about it again?? i mean, i knew he could SWIM at mach 5, which is…. hypersonic speed, and equivalent to 3836 miles per hour. and i know all demigods are naturally a bit faster than humans. but like… he can move faster than bullets?
i guess i just wasn’t expecting perseus to go all spider-man on me, that’s all
I love seeing them together 🌊⚡️
Another old art I did from last year
percy: hold on, i’m having one of those things - a headache with pictures
grover: huh?
annabeth: he’s having an idea
As intellectuals, one would think the amount of times this point has been reiterated would indicate that a reasonable number of readers have developed the common sense to understand this. Considering we are all older now and aren't blinded by nostalgia, it's the only logical conclusion.
But of course, we have a large population of willfully blind people in the mix. Honestly, the state of the fandom is almost as disappointing as Rick's writing.
It is SO funny to me that some of the Percabeth/Annabeth stans are genuinely upset about wottg, because like. that's how Percabeth/Annabeth has always been with one sole exception: something to "justify" Annabeth's behavior.
For instance:
TLT: she offloads onto Percy about her hatred of Poseidon. Justification: she's 12, she's prejudiced (presumably based on myth? unclear? and she's learning how to be a person etc.
SoM: she offloads onto Percy and Tyson. Justification: Cyclops trauma (nevermind that Tyson had nothing in common with the Cyclops that scared 7 yr Annabeth other than his race).
TTC: she was barely in this book so we'll skip it.
BoTL: she offloads onto Percy and Rachel. Justification: she's jealous of Rachel, also she's in love with Luke AND Percy and is stressed about her prophecy/quest.
TLO: she offloads onto Percy about being a "coward" etc. Justification: he's spending time with Rachel destressing/managing his mental health instead of time with her at chb and she's jealous.
MoA: she offloads onto Percy aka judo flip + threats. Justification: he was missing for months and she was stressed. Nevermind that none of it was his fault.
HoH: she offloads onto Percy aka. using Rachel's name to keep him on his toes. Justification: she was in Tartarus, and therefore stressed (how this results in her actively making Percy anxious as a trauma response - I have no idea; especially when you consider that the only reason Percy is also there is to save her life)
BoO: she offloads about Percy to Piper. Justification: she's angry that Percy scared her in Tartarus while he was fighting - coincidentally against the same enemy she wasn't able to do anything but dodge while said enemy was killing Percy and planning on killing Annabeth next.
you get the point. she's consistently rude/taking her emotions out on people instead of working through it and setting healthy boundaries. there's always some reason that boils down to "I'm hurt and lashing out" that her stans use to justify her behavior.
but in wottg, Annabeth has everything she wants: her perfectly controlled boyfriend, her architecture studies and a non-stressful mission/quest from the gods.
there's no trauma to justify how she's consistently calling Percy stupid or talking down to him or being rude.
now the stans are seeing it. and some of them don't like it.
what are your favorite klayley parallels?
That's such a hard question. I love them all since they emphasize the growth of this extremely intimate and unbreakable bind between Klaus and Hayley than once solidified has never wavered. It's like a prophecy that says:
Yes, Klaus Mikaelson the Great Evil is the smartest, scariest, strongest creature on the face of earth with millenia worth of paranoia, trust issues, anger and grief and none can put a name to what atrocity he would commit next but trust him to do everything under the sun and otherwise to keep Hayley safe. Come hell or highwater. Trust him to have this firm belief that his confidant, his best friend, the woman he loves the most would never turn her back on him, nor lose faith in him.
But since you asked, here's a few I absolutely love:
More than you know (It’s practically a love confession when said with I trust you and I miss you)
Hayley consistently believing in Klaus and not giving up on him
Klaus repeatedly emphasising that all the good in hope came from Hayley(merciful unlike me)
Both of them wanting the other dead and yet going to every length imaginable to protect each other
Queen's don't run parallel (It shows how deeply Klaus impacts her)
These are only the first ones that come to mind, I love them all just as well. Thanks for asking, it's a lovely question.
The entire Fandom needs to listen to this:
Percy having a thing for Rachel was so absolutely deserved like he should have been head over heels for her. Here's why?
First meeting? Runs her through with Riptide, and where anyone would have spent the whole time yelling and arguing, Rachel quickly gauged the situation, helped Percy hide, deviated the skeletons from their orignal path all at the same time.
Percy is so awed and he should be and Rick Riordan doesn't do justice to the whole thing.
It ends on Percy saying he owes her one, almost an indication that they would meet again.
Yet Percy is terrified of running into Rachel again because he isn't sure if he could answer all her questions, most definitely because he doesn't want to drag her into the whole thing. So much so that when he sees her at Goode, he calls her "my redheaded nightmare " .
Not only has he thought of her since they last met, but he may or may not have dreamed about her, not to mention he remembered her full name after listening just once.
When he does meet her again she yet again warns him about monsters hence saving both of them.
The most important thing is Percy, who all his life has been judged blamed ridiculed, and mocked is for the very first time understood so instantaneously by Rachel. She who has been put in mortal danger every single time she meets him doesn't blame him, doesn't judge him for it, and openly takes the blame for the burning school. Even Annabeth's first response to seeing the smoke is blaming Percy despite being around him and knowing well enough for 3 years; she chooses to blame him as if she doesn't know that it's never Percy's fault. Yet Rachel, someone who he has met only twice and that too for meager few minutes, understands him and his situation so well.
All the people in the Fandom ask yourself this: Will Percy Jackson not for all that he is be absolutely head over heels and in awe of someone like that?
He can barely give her any answers at the moment, but she agrees to a death quest to help him save the world.
Throws a literal hairbrush at the Titan King and stands her ground.
Stays by him and comforts him through his depressive thoughts about dying due to the prophecy.
Falls in love with him despite knowing he has little time left.
Does her best to help him while still keeping his mind off from spiraling into dark thoughts.
Rides a literal helicopter mid-apocalypse to get to him just to warn him of the dangers?
Percy would be so absolutely over the moon in love with Rachel, were Uncle Rick not so fixated on Percabeth agenda.
The last bit is for toxic Annabeth stans:
Rachel is a genius too.
She is ambidextrous and can draw with both hands and legs; probably has exceptional memory, and her composure and quick thinking are on par with Percy himself.
I hate bringing this to looks, but I will if I get to shut up toxic fans. Annabeth is certainly beautiful, and her grey eyes are quite unique, but Rachel is the most underrated and definitely the most beautiful out of all Percy Jackson females.
The woman literally won genetic lottery with red hair and green eyes, and the only reason Uncle Rick doesn't rave about her beauty is to not make Annabeth insecure.
Also, for those overly concerned about the Oracle celibacy thing, I will address that in my next post and how it's not a problem at all. (Now posted link is here:

I feel like Percy and Annabeth’s goals for the future don’t line up. Percy never struck me as the type to want to go to uni, and if he did he would 100% hate marine bio. In Chalice he’s complaining about having tons of chemistry homework, when studying marine science at uni means you have to do LOTS of chem. He says that he needs to study so he can go to college and be with Annabeth, but it’s never about what he personally will get out of it, just him not wanting to be separated from her. Doesn’t seem like a healthy dynamic in the long run.
Terribly sorry for the late response. Hopefully, this meets your expectations.
You are preaching to the choir at this point. Everyone and their mother, at least everyone who is not blind, is aware of how one-sided the goals of their relationship are.
If you observe not only is this the case with their goals but is a recurring pattern with all of Percy's opinions where either he doesn't voice them or Annabeth is dismissive of his opinions.
Almost all the problems with their relationship arise with how Percy doesn't voice his opinions and goes along with whatever Annabeth asks. And Annaebeth also assumes that only her own opinions count, and since Percy is a bit less knowledgeable than her, he has no opinions.
Despite Percy being a far better strategist than Annabeth and arguably smarter Annabeth almost never gives him the proper credit he deserves.
She is always either openly or subtly degrading his intelligence on literally no basis.
Annabeth is also extremely overbearing about studies towards Percy and openly condescending. When time comes for them to actually go to college, Percy easily gets a better grade than Annabeth, and she insinuates how seaweed brain is a substitute to some degree of the word dumb.
And if people still doubt that Percy has different ideas about his future, they only need to read Chalice of the gods. He is clearly fed up by the studies and the college schedule and isn't very intent on going to college, especially since Estelle is due soon, and he wants to first and foremost remain with Sally, Paul and Estelle his family.
Percy has time and again highlighted that if it were up to him, he would choose to do whatever he pleases at his leisure, which has very little to do with studies. Even in the case of marine biology, I second the opinion that he wouldn't enjoy it. Partially because Percy hates the objectification of aquatic creatures. He can't stand aquariums, and he is most definitely not going to enjoy the study and dissection of marine creatures.
Also, Percy, being ready to drop everything to move to New Rome, is completely out of character and literally illogical on Rick's part.
Annabeth has also repeatedly made known that she wishes to be involved at the centre of all things godly I.e more quests and wishes to pursue her interests more so than anything which is directly the inverse of Percy wanting a complete vacation and zero stress.
All in all, not only are Percy and Annabeth's goals opposite and incompatible, we can repeatedly see only Percy trying to make some compromise while Annabeth's hubris blinds her.
It's clear that they will never see eye to eye on many important things that make a relationship, and blind percabeth stans need to accept it.
Percy is a Hatsune Miku fan. I will not elaborate futhermore
Random question that popped in my head.
what if The Percy Jackson universe was Real??? Like I mean the characters, the Gods, The monsters, Everything. And do you think that Percabeth would last if they were a Real Life Couple?? Would any of the relationships last if they were Real??? Would Percy and Annabeth even like each other if they were real people??? Im genuinely curious
I think Percy and Annabeth as two people are realistically very incompatible.
1. Annabeth literally projects her mother's Poseidon hate on Percy for no absolute reason in the first book, and let's just say her behavior is nothing short of absolutely unpleasant towards Percy.
When they finally do bond, it's never because of something they have in common but because they have gone through the same set of circumstances.
2. Their whole entire relationship is completely based on trauma bonding. Their relationship is entirely based on being each other's only company through dangerous experiences.
3. Percy due to his deep self esteem issues sees Annabeth as the only person who will love him despite all his flaws and thus has this blatant misconception that no one except for Annabeth will ever love him which is a complete and utterly horrible misunderstanding and an absolute lie.
But he is so terrified of losing the one person he thinks loves him for himself that he doesn't even try to entertain other relationships even if it's to get an idea about how relationships work.
And when he finally does with Rachel, he finds himself much more relaxed, happy going, and content with her than Annabeth, and despite all that realization, Uncle Rick chose to shove Percabeth down readers' throats.
4. The purely toxic way in which Annabeth assumes some sort of ownership over Percy is truly repulsive.
And don't get me started upon how awfully toxic her response to Rachel's mere presence was both to Rachel and to Percy despite them not even dating yet or at all.
5. Not to mention Percy is a character who has extreme issues with self-esteem and yet Annabeth insists on calling him a nickname that at its core means dumb and Percy is no way dumb at all maybe oblivious but not dumb.
Percy is shown repeatedly on edge around Annabeth, and due to her controlling nature but he, in his own words, chalks it up to healthy fear. (There's no such thing as a healthy fear when it comes to your significant other)
No healthy relationship should, never I mean, never ever contain even a hint of fear. NEVER.
6. Annabeth is and has always been openly insensitive or disregarding of Percy's trauma with Gabe and even when he tries to talk about it she shuts him up by laughing at him, laughing at an ABUSE victim trying to open up.
All in all Percabeth shippers may preach what they want but Percabeth is a very toxic relationship. Because it doesn't matter how many other good moments there were it matters that there were this downright horrible moments.
7. And think on this logically. Percy and Annabeth have literally nothing in common. NOTHING. No hobbies, not aspirations in life, not their perspectives on life literally nil.
So if you are telling me two people like that are going to end up having a long, fulfilling relationship, then yeah, no, you are only fooling yourself.
In real life with actual dating they wouldn't even last six months, even that's too long.
