wip I'm working on
so this happened to me today

They parted ways in the bookshop so now they must reunite in the bookshop too.
YES, that's exactly what I'm saying!
Whatever happens, it will lead them back to the bookshop, back to the same carpet covering the same, by then faded chalk circle.
Maybe they'll cause some more pain in the bookshop before they fix things, but I firmly believe it'll be important.
Egg
Endless Forms Most Beautiful
Going a step further into Palaeognathes, we have the Apterygidae: the kiwis. There are 5 species endemic to Aotearoa. Pictured are the tokoeka/southern brown kiwi (Apteryx australis) and the roroa/ great spotted kiwi (A. haastii).
I've heard it said that kiwi are birds doing their best impressions of a badger or a rat, as they evolved to fill a similar niche on the land-mammal-free islands of Aotearoa. Their feathers are shaggy and hairlike and come in shades of brown. They are strictly nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates in the grounds of open areas by starlight. Instead of finding prey by sight, which is quite poor in kiwis, these birds have an acute sense of smell and sensitive bill tip with which to root out prey. Uniquely among birds, kiwis have nostrils on the end of their beak, allowing them to smell out their prey when probing into the soil. Another famous oddity of the kiwi is the egg to body ratio: theirs is the largest egg relative to body size of any bird, as depicted by this x-ray.
Unusually among the ratites, kiwis are monogamous and tend to pair for life, with some pairings documented to have lasted up to 20 years.
