Super Smash Bros Ultimate: It Apparently Won’t Take Long To Unlock 74 Fighters

News has emerged today via Twitter which states that it won’t take Super Smash Bros fans too much time to unlock all the 74 fighters in the latest entry, Super Smash Bros Ultimate. It should take most gamers a couple of hours to get their favourite fighter. 

I have to admit, after seeing this trailer, I really want to see this movie!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives on Nintendo Switch Dec. 7!

A special tournament-style Splatfest is coming to Splatoon 2! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are rising up to take the stage, and it’s up to you to vote and battle for your favorite Turtle! Will you root for Raph? Lay down some ink for Leo? Make some noise for Mikey? Or dominate for Donnie?  

The first of three Splatfest tournaments will pit Raph against Leo on 5/4-5/5, with the second on 5/11-5/12, featuring Mikey vs. Donnie, and the final match between the winners takes place on 5/18-5/19. Which brother will be crowned the most bodacious?

The first round of the @tmnt Splatfest features Raph vs. Leo and oozes into action 5/4 at 9pm PT!

SUPER SMASH BRIDGE: THE CROSSOVER BATTLE YOU WON’T BELIEVE!

Not a day goes by that Eorzeans don’t learn something new about Hingashi. With the city’s docks recently flooded with Eorzean tourists and visitors, as well as massively increased visibility from persons all across the world, the city of Kugane looks to be overwhelmed with foreigners. And just like our own city, Kugane knows how to make money. In this case, they’ve begun an ingenious plan:

The Super Smash Bridge Tournament.

Super Smash Bridge was an idea hatched as a collaboration between an Ul’dahn citizen named Reginald, and a Hingashi citizen known only as “Sakurai”. The concept is brilliant in its simplicity: a no-holds-barred fighting tournament in which a fighter loses once they’re off the venue (generally the bridge), be it thrown into the river or shoved into the crowd. The final one standing on the moves on to the next fight in the bracket. The only rule, for reasons unknown to anyone but the founders themselves, is that no one going by the name “John” is allowed to participate.

Already, they’ve figured out how to spice things up even further - throwing in weapons for the competitors to use on one another, allowing direct assistance from the audience, and even in some cases having as many as eight fighters at a time fighting in the chaotic venue. Utilizing the visibility of their locations of choice, they’ve successfully pulled in crowds throughout the city willing to watch and cheer on their favorites, as well as buy merchandise in their support.

This has led to a sharp divide in the fanbase of the makeshift arena - those who want to enjoy the competitions, and those who are so far up their own ass with rules that they’ve forgotten what fun is. Typically the latter group cry foul about practically everything on the bridge - trying to impose strict limitations upon which sections of the city can be used, how many competitors can be present, and even trying to outright ban the usage of weapons or particular competitors for being “too powerful”. They first emerged from protests over whether or not Kugane Tower was a fair venue, since it favored certain fighting styles over others. These people know nothing about what they’re talking about, obviously. To the last, the most intense thing any of them have done is the so-called “downward throw”, a slang term referring to the common act of a loser throwing their wallet at the ground in frustration. This childish display is rapidly becoming part of the subculture of gambling surrounding the tournament. When interviewing the co-creators, the enigmatic “Sakurai” had this to say:

“They don’t know what my tournament is. They think they own something I created. They’re wrong.” 

“They can go to the Grindstone if they want strict rules,” Reggie then added. “They can take their toxicity back to Ala Mhigo for all we care. Just keep it out of Kugane.”

With fighting styles initially focused primarily on various forms of pugilism, as the close quarters of the bridge lend themselves especially well to close-up fights, the metagame of the melee has since evolved into a full-on brawl in which the participants bring practically anything they want to the field - including a whole host of participants bringing swords! We reached out to one participant, a Doman lupine, and he had this to say:

“I roll with a crew called the Space Animals. We’re all specialists in the same fighting style. Rapid attacks, throws, you know. It’s effective.”

When questioned as to why he was carrying a gun, the wolf quickly changed the subject, saying that the biggest problem with the tournament as it is is the overabundance of people swinging swords in similar styles to one another.

Super Smash Bridge has had countless exhibition matches, an ongoing league where those who show promise are inducted, and grandiose tournaments in which the best of the best look for a winner. The Crucible was able to get a comment out of the winner of the latest tournament, coming out on top over 2661 other entrancts, the red-hatted hyur who outside the arena goes only by “Ally”:

“Smash is life. Smash is the best tournament of its kind. When you send an opponent to their Final Destination, there’s no greater rush. You launch them into the sky, stand on the edge of the bridge to make sure they can’t get back up somehow. Sometimes they’re so exhausted, all it takes is one poke to send them into the river, floating away.”

Of note is that Ally was able to win his final match through a miraculous upset. Despite being thrown over the bridge, he managed to dash fast enough that he walked over the very waves of the river themselves, climbed the walls and, jumping back onto the bridge, dropkicked his opponent far into the distance.

The Crucible looks forward to what’s to come from the Smash community, so long as things keep being entertaining. Rumors of some sort of secret cabal of winners who dictate the outcome of tournaments through collusion are misinformed at best.

Edel Geraldine sees this as the Far Eastern version of Lords of Verminion, and is saving up his money in case Sakurai and Reggie release the promised “Meebo” line of Verminion minions themed after prominent Smash competitors.
