The treaty🐺🧛‍♂️

In 1936, the Cullens (composed by 3 men—Carlisle Cullen, Edward Cullen, Emmett Cullen—and 2 women—Esme Cullen, Rosalie Hale) came across the pack of that generation (represented at the time by 3 shape-shifters—Ephraim Black, Levi Uley, Quil Ateara II) while hunting. They claimed that they did not drink human blood, and Carlisle Cullen offered a treaty between the coven and the pack. The three wolves were outnumbered, so Carlisle had no need to make this offer other than an honest desire to refrain from killing the wolves. For this reason, the Alpha wolf Ephraim Black believed Carlisle was making a genuine offer.

Ephraim insisted on two main point to the treaty: The vampires could not injure any humans (either by hunting them upfor food or by transforming them into vampires, as the Quileutes viewed this transformation as equal to murder), and the vampires were never to trespass on Quileute land. Carlisle agreed to these terms and proposed adding the concept of mutual secrecy: The Quileutes would not be able to tell anyone the true nature of the Cullens, and vice versa. Ephraim agreed, and they worked out the boundary lines for their respective lands. The Quileute territory covered all of the reservation, plus some of the land that had traditionally belonged to the Hohs and the Makahs. In some places, the boundary line followed the main road, now Highway 101, but in others it followed the old tribal lines. In turn, the shape-shifters would not cross into Cullen land. The town of Forks, along with a few other surrounding towns, and the highway were "truce areas" where both the Quileute shape-shifters and the Cullens were allowed to venture.

idk man, every time I see a post about how jacob was better for bella, how he accepted and understood her exactly how she was, how he could have made her so happy... i don't know how to say "yes! this is totally correct! but also missing the whole point."

the fact that bella had another option for happiness (where she wouldn't have to sacrifice anything or change herself at all) but STILL CHOSE EDWARD ANYWAY is meant to lend more significance to her decision, not to demonstrate that she somehow chose incorrectly. bella knows she has the potential to become something greater than what she is by becoming a vampire. she also knows that SHE can't make JACOB happy because she will never stop thinking about what could have been with edward. and i think this was what stephenie was trying to say with the HEA in breaking dawn.

it's not that team jacob is wrong, it's that the whole jacob/bella relationship was designed specifically to be a tragedy. stories have themes – it's not just about rewarding whichever character is the least problematic. i agree that stephenie communicated this theme really poorly, but this is how i've always personally interpreted eclipse. jacob deserved better than what he got, but he also deserved better than being bella's second choice.

So, I just read another series where the third book pulled away from the main character and the love interest to another character and introduced a second love story.

I can't help but think how Twilight would have greatly benefitted from a format like that. Just think, instead of the love triangle in Eclipse, what if that book centered around Jacob and Leah? And instead of a plotline that ruined Bella's character, it solidified Jacob's.

If SM wanted everything between ExB to be fine after the events in NM, then fine. Bella accepted Edward's marriage proposal and tied that in a neat little bow.

Eclipse switches to Jacob's POV.

It switches back to Bella's POV every few chapters, just so we can visit Bella and Edward for a B Plot, probably centered around the family as they help Bella accept her decision.

The story is mainly about Jacob finding his place in this new supernatural world with a freshly broken heart.

He finds an ally in Leah, navigating through the exact same hardships, and becomes her friend, instead of bullying her like all the other werewolves.

Obviously, the friendship burns into something deeper.

The Victoria / Newborn plot can stay. Jacob already risks his life to save Leah. This new scenario simply makes that moment better.

Instead of the creepy tent scene, Jacob could still be forced to carry Bella up the mountain and warm her, but those moments are filled with apologies from both parties and acceptance of friendship, rather than Jacob forcing himself onto Bella.

Everything can come back together in Breaking Dawn

Edward and Bella get married. Only, Bella now never cheated on him or was conflicted to leave him for Jacob.

Jacob and Leah still break apart from the pack to protect Bella's baby.

Jacob still imprints on Renesmee, only he fights it and stays with Leah. Both of them leave the supernatural world entirely.

Edward and Bella live their supernatural HEA

People making fun of Bella swan and Edward specifically for not showing facial expressions, having facial twitches, doing lip biting, stuttering, clinging to each other, being extremely reserved… mmm… it’s giving ableism.

The idea that a character isn’t a character because they don’t show emotion, whether through their face or through their voice, is very much ableism. Characters are allowed to look and be cold and standoffish. There are people like that in real life. Not everyone needs to show facial expressions or express themselves dramatically, and to expect them to do so is very much ableism.

Not to mention, pushing all of the problematic shit aside, I find myself relating to bella on a specific level as an autistic person, because we’re both extremely reserved and don’t like hanging around other people, but when we like someone we’re very clingy, we both have blank faces (because why do I need to fake my expressions? If I don’t feel something, I don’t feel it), we both stutter A LOT, and we both have very limited interests. AND WE ARE BOTH CLUMSY AS HELL!!! THE MOST AUTISTIC TRAIT OF THEM ALL!!!

Not to mention, her suddenly going from this calm, and almost emotionless character to becoming extremely angry when that Jacob thing happened in Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a very very VERY common trait for some autistic people.

We can express ourselves in ways that seem very overly dramatic and even exaggerated, and cartoonish to allistic people. I’ve done it many times. It’s a thing. And people laughed because they thought I was joking… every time I express myself even a little bit, people find it amusing. As if I’m just faking it.

So yeah… BELLA SWAN IS AUTISTIC!!!!!

(This doesn’t mean I suddenly like the characters. I still hate them very much, and I still don’t like the story. I’m just very passionate about calling out ableism, and begging people to realize that neurodivergent people exist.)

An idea of what the Twilight vamps can look like in the sun: 

1. They look the way they did when they died: 

- Carlisle has a bite mark on his wrist and his arm hangs weirdly, like his shoulder was out of it’s socket, body still hunched over in pain. 

- Jasper has a bloody bite on the juncture between his shoulder and neck, another on the other side to match, always bleeding and always burning. 

- Edward looks like a living corpse, hectic spots of red on his cheeks from the fever, all skin and bones, a bloody bite on his wrist, his face and body gaunt. 

- Esme’s stomach is slightly swollen, her neck bent at an impossible angle and her spine all twisted and broken, dried tears on her cheeks, a bloody bite on her throat. 

- Alice is all skin and bones, hollow eyes and gaunt body, twitching periodically like she can still feel the electricity zipping through her body, a bite on her shoulder. 

- Rosalie is all bloody and beaten up, half dead, lips swollen and bitten raw, dried blood on the insides of her thighs, a broken collarbone, broken leg, and 4 bruised ribs, she hisses out in pain every time she moves, a bite on her throat. 

- Emmett is a bloody mess, his clothes all shredded and body twisted in pain, deep gashes across his chest and abdomen and legs, his body broken, a deep bite on his neck.

Thinking about how Bella Swan is a strong and well-defined character who knows exactly what she wants. How all the suffering she endures throughout the saga comes from other people telling her "No, actually I know what's best for you, let me save you from this bad decision." How she proves them all wrong by getting her happily ever after anyway. How it's even better than she imagined it would be, both for herself and basically every other character involved. How the reaction from a large portion of the audience is STILL "ugh, but the relationship is so unhealthy, she really made a bad choice." How people make exactly the same complaint about every other fairytale where a woman gets what she wants.

The ache in your chest, the luxury and comfort, the excitement and happiness, the pleasure, the tears, the mini heart attacks, the memories and nostalgia you get when you feel and live beauty of twilight 🍎🌲🥀🌑♟
