I think a fundamental part of online friendships that people ‘outside’ fail to understand is how comforting it is to have friends right there in your pocket who will keep you company in good times and bad, listen to your rants, let you vent, be supportive whilst offering outsider perspective…

Need to be alone but need support too? Pocket friends.

Something awful just happened and there’s nobody around for you to tell? Pocket friends.

Need to let your feelings out but don’t want people to see you ugly-cry? Pocket friends.

Keep being amazing, pocket friends. You couldn’t possibly imagine how important you are.

its that time of year where people on tumblr are shouting “if you donate to AO3 and not my personal gofundme you are EVIL”

things that are not selfish:

prioritizing your mental health

saying no

calling in sick to work or school (even if you’re not physically sick)

limiting contact with someone when their issues are affecting your happiness negatively

cutting off toxic people

declining help

setting boundaries for yourself

not immediately responding to texts/calls/emails

ending a friendship or relationship even though the other person “hasn’t done anything wrong”

not donating any money

complimenting and being proud of yourself

treating yourself

how is a little freak like me supposed to make it in this world

It's come to my attention that a good portion of the younger generation has not been made aware of one of the greatest and most hated PILLARS of millennial society.

So I apologize, but I must take on this task. A new hand must touch the beacon. The knowledge must be passed on. The chain can not be broken.

So.

The Game.

The following are the rules of The Game:

there is no winning The Game

once you know of The Game, you are always playing the game

the point of The Game is to not think about The Game

if you think about The Game, you have lost The Game, and must announce this to those around you - causing them to also lose The Game

A "reset period" of roughly an hour or two before loss announcements is common in colloquial rules to allow yourself and those around you to properly temporarily "forget" about The Game, however that is not an official rule.
