Truth
I've heard High Valyrian has no words for grandparents, is that right? And what word might exist for that role?
It sure didn't—until I created them.
There are four terms:
kekepa "father's father"
mumuña "mother's mother"
kepāzma "mother's father"
muñāzma "father's mother"
In a conlang, there are always words that aren't there because they're supposed to not be there, and words that aren't there because they haven't been created yet. That latter category is always going to be much, much larger than the former.
“I tell the landscape where we’re going.”
Location: In the Carina spiral arm of our Milky Way Galaxy
Distance from Earth: About 20,000 light-years
Object type: Nebula and open star cluster
Discovered by: Sir John Herschel in 1834
Imaged here by the Hubble Space Telescope, NGC 3603 is a collection of thousands of large, hot stars, including some of the most massive stars known to us. Scientists categorize it as an “open cluster” because of its spread-out shape and low density of stars. Surrounding the bright star cluster are plumes of interstellar gas and dust, which comprise the nebula part of this cosmic object. New stars are formed from the gaseous material within these clouds! NGC 3603 holds stars at a variety of life stages, making it a laboratory for scientists to study star evolution and formation. Astronomers estimate that star formation in and around the cluster has been occurring for 10 to 20 million years.

Right now, the Hubble Space Telescope is delving into its #StarrySights campaign! Find more star cluster content and breathtaking new images by following along on Hubble’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Some handy keyboard shortcuts for Windows:
[win] + [arrow key] : snap the current window (left or right snaps the window to the corresponding half of the screen, up maximizes the window, down un-maximizes or minimizes the window; if a window is already snapped right or left, up or down will make take up the higher or lower quarter of that side of the screen)
[win] + [;] : bring up an emoji picker
[ctrl] + [shift] + [escape] : bring up the Task Manager (this used to be [Ctrl] + [alt] + [delete], but in recent versions of Windows that combination brings up several possible actions, like locking the screen or switching users, in addition to launching the Task Manager
[win] + [L] : lock the screen (so you'll need to enter the password to unlock it)
[win] + [D] : show or hide the desktop (minimizes all windows so you just see the desktop, or brings all windows back up)
[win] + [E] : launches a File Explorer window
[win] + [I] : opens Settings
[alt] + [tab] : brings up all windows and let's you cycle through them by repeatedly hitting [tab]
[win] + [shift] + [S] : take a screenshot of part off your screen
[win] + [U] : opens accessibility settings
Also in general, [tab] will cycle between selected things (eg fields on a web site or Excel cells) and [alt] will activate the menu.
Also, if you hold [shift] while pressing the arrow keys in a text field, it'll select text in the direction you press. It'll go letter by letter if you just hold [shift], but adding in [ctrl] will make it select word by word. These, combined with [home] (go to start of line) and [end] (go to end of line) let you do a lot of text manipulation without ever needing to touch the mouse or touchpad!
my quality of life has improved tenfold ever since i was introduced to breezewiki, a site that exists solely to remove the bloat from fandom.com wikis. no more ads, quizzes, random autoplaying videos, popups, recommended pages from other sites, or discord server member lists. just the wiki. these things are finally readable again
Isopods
They make great mounts: they are docile, big, live long and have a very smooth gait. Not as fast as spiky legged and feisty cockroaches, but they make up for it with their ability to traverse uneven terrain and scale nearly vertical cliffs.
That said, an untrained isopod has the inconvenient habit of rolling up into a ball if it feels threatened. And it will do so with no regard for the rider sitting on top of it.
That's why the farmers who sell them as mounts start riding them as soon as they're big enough to get them used to it. Not without mishaps of course.
My old person trait is that I think a website should work in a web browser and not try to open an app
Seriously just ask me anything If I don't want to answer it, I just won't.
- ask me things you want to know about me
- why you follow me
- what’s on your mind/what you’re thinking about
- a compliment
- make me choose between two things
- ask for advice
- tell me a secret
- things you associate me with
- anything!!!!
This point cannot be emphasised enough. I would never have been able to make any grammar at all without doing things this way.
Constraints are an amazing tool that actually make you more creative. Instead of trying to give your language ALL OF THE FEATUREs, try putting more constraints on it.
If only I could do that with my friends IRL. A lot of us bake, but we live too far apart
reblog to give warm bread to your mutuals
Oh wait tumblr doesn't really have private accounts that only specific accounts may see. So I guess I'll just not interact with the nsfw content at all.
Been lately getting in the feed a bunch of nsfw content I’d like to like or reblog but don’t want that stuff public. Perhaps I should make a second account?

removed twitter account from bio, updated my discord account name
I suggest that we start using the term ‘creatives’ instead of ‘content creators’ for authors/artists/gifmakers/podficcers for a few reasons, and chief among them are these;
we can’t always be our most productive, but there’s a terrible trend of fandom folks feeling bad if they don’t have something new to post every few weeks
you’re still a creative person even if you aren’t creating something at a given time, for whatever reason
and something it’s taken me far too long to learn myself: making things is not the rent you pay to be part of a community
Just realised tumblr allows html editing, but the other reasons still apply. Also, it's just not the same editing within the confines of a tumblr panel and doing so from a website you can fine tune the layout of and control the comments on etc
I feel like maybe starting a blog again I want to write in depth posts about topics with full html support And I also want to talk politics in a public space without all the problems of talking politics on social media. Especially I want to keep my tumblr account mostly non-political.
Also first time posting in months Again. Or even checking tumblr. But this is my only social network now (stopped using twitter even before the fiascos with Musk) and I kind of miss having that. But I also find myself with a lack of anything to share. Life has been pretty boring in most non-political regards.
