This is why I can't take this fandom seriously.

Taash is in their very early 20's. They are not a “thousands of years old being who speaks in iambs” or whatever the fuck it is that Solavellans gush on about. Not a goddamn thing they say is “crap” - it's short, it's to the point, it's very often funny as fuck because it pulls no punches. It serves as comedic punctuation very often simply because they don't have the patience for other people's bullshit.

I never see specifics as to what people find cringey and I suspect it's because people are uncomfortable with Taash's identity, or CONSTANTLY forget they are 20-23. And holy shit the cringe things everyone says at that age.

Taash is remarkable and mature for their age, an expert in their favorite subject, and recognized as such by people much older than them, who literally put their lives in Taash's hands regularly. I think Taash is allowed a few moments to be weird and 20 once in a fucking while without people coming for Trick and gurgling on about inconsistent writing.

Half the queer fandom being frothingly mad at the idea that the game unapologetically uses the words "trans" and "nonbinary" for their characters... While the other half compares Mary Kirby to JK Rowling for confirming what some people already suspected about her demisexual character though it's not verbally stated onscreen...

If you are any sort of queer writer? Writing from an authentically queer perspective? Don't forget! There's no actual right perfect acceptable way to do rep and that is obviously YOUR FAULT. Whatever you choose, everyone knows you did it with malicious intent and could've done better but chose not to. And that's on you, babe! Prepare to be demonized by your own community until you die

I think a lot of people dislike Taash discussing gender and being non-binary so explicitly because it forces them to acknowledge those issues rather than remain comfortable ignoring them. Transgender identities in Veilguard are not an innuendo, an off-handed remark, but they're mentioned and discussed in a way that prevents working around them and disregarding them. All the talk of people mentioning how DA games should be "medieval fantasy" and not use "modern language" is just a facade for wanting to be able to ignore what makes people uncomfortable.

This one took a little while longer to get out than usual. My writer's block seems to be flaring up and I'm a little emotionally shaken, but it's out! I think I'll take the next chapter to finish off some light fluff and filler, and then fall back strong with where I'm hoping my story to go.

a little bit obsessed with them

I've come far enough in DaV to have all companions and I don't get why so many people are upset with Taash's writing.

Y'all rave about having queer characters in the game, but as soon as a queer character isn't kissing everyone's ass 24/7 they're suddenly badly written?

If anything, Taash is perfectly written for being a baby trans who's discovering themselves. I sure was 10 times more difficult when I had my own self-discovery period.

I've also seen people whinge about that "Nobody likes being a woman" line.

Yeah, because Taash is forcing themselves into the woman mold and don't realize they're allwed not to. And they're assuming everyone feels the same because it's not like they've had discussions about it with anyone.

Misunderstand me not, there's been a lot of valid criticism of DaV, but Taash not being a trans character that is palatable to cis people is not it.
