OoF crack au idea

Ok, so for people in the undertale fandom, fanfiction is typically really focused on the skeletons (+ gaster sometimes). I mean, I think the fact that we made so many fandom-wide aus is incredible, but it can feel a bit one note on occasion. 

That’s why I highly recommend “Ocean on Fire”, by @theninjamouse on AO3. This fic is an amazing Grillby x reader. The reader is named, technically, but it’s just that she is going by her last name “Shore”. This earned the ship the name Shorby. Without getting into spoilers, the fic is incredibly good, and I’ve enjoyed it since the first chapter.

Now, since I don’t know how much of this may count as spoilers, and because I ramble, I’ll put the rest under a read-more.

So, not too long ago I sent Mouse an ask basically talking about how I was looking at papercraft models for Pokemon and decided Flareon and Vaporeon reminded me too much of Shorby. Aside from the obvious thing of fire elemental and fire pokemon, Shore also has huge water connections. First, she surfs, even working at the surf shop and giving some of the Undertale crew lessons. Also, (spoilers) she is a mage who can manipulate water, likely due to distant aquatic monster heritage. So between the water links, and the fact that the Vaporeon papercraft came with a surfboard, I really like the connection, and began thinking of au possibilities. NinjaMouse approved of a Pokemon au, so I’m here to tell my thoughts.

To start with, the au would probably be Shoregrillster, a.k.a. a ship between Shore, Grillby, and Gaster. (For context, in the fic Grillby and Gaster were together before Gaster disappeared.) I was thinking this because a) I like the dynamic between the three, and b) I needed a reason for Pokemon and OoF to intersect. If anyone could make that happen, it would be the mad scientist. If people think Sans could grab au versions of himself, Gaster could do something similar here.

So, I have a handful of Ideas for how this could go down, split into two categories. Option 1: Shore and/or Grillby temporarily become their respective pokemon. Option 2: Gaster somehow makes/ summons pokemon into our world. Both options have potential for hijinks.

In Option 1: It would probably go down similarly to the side fic “A Scientist, a Bartender, and a Fool”, where Gaster turned Shore into an otter. In the fic, the set up was that Gaster tried to make Shores magic stronger, and accidentally pushed her monster heritage to the surface, making her into a form better suited to that. So in this au, it would likely be something similar. My thought is that Gaster would see something kinda like the Pokemon franchise and try to see if anything from there is recreatable. (Maybe start with some of the moves pokemon could do before trying to apply science to the actual pokemon?) Either way, he ends up turning his partners into eeveelutions, probably because when his machine tried to find magic to use for pokemon recreation, It latched onto the two closest matches to pokemon types. 

Of course, the plot for this one would probably go similarly to the side fic, just with the added bonus of Grillby being changed too. Also, some extra fun from Grillby and Shore having new biology. For example, Grillby would now have completely internal flames, so theoretically he could go into water. Shore would just get to enjoy basically being an otter, but bigger and with fins and gills. Also, some fun from trio trying to keep people from finding out why Shore and Grillby aren’t at work.

Now, Option 2: This one has all sorts of fun possibility! This one would probably be the result of Gaster getting interested in either artificially making monsters or meeting alternate universes. Maybe while talking with Sans or Alphys, one of them made a comment that set him off on a tangent. Either way, Gaster probably wasn’t specifically aiming for pokemon, he just miscalculated and accidentally made/ summoned pokemon. 

This is where the fun comes in, as the three of them need to work out how to care for these weird little “monsters” without people learning how they got there. It helps that most of the world wouldn’t know that the pokemon aren’t monsters unless they got into an encounter or someone kept records of all monsters. 

I really like this idea because it opens the door for Gaster to also get his own pokemon. In option 1, he still needed to be able to reverse the change. But in this one, he can also get his own thematically appropriate pocket monster. 

I don’t have any big plot ideas, but I have been thinking of various disconnected scenes that would be fun.

- Shore and Grillby in the kitchen, panicking over how to feed their new pets

- (suggested by Mouse) Vaporeon and Shore surfing together, because yes

- Grillby working at the bar, then realizing Flareon followed him and having to keep his large fire dog out of sight of patrons, with ensuing hijinks

- Gaster getting worn out trying to fix his mistake, with the other two caring for their disaster scientist.

- Having to explain what happened to maybe 2 or 3 other people, either because they need help, or because someone found out on accident.

I did some thinking on what pokemon would best fit Gaster, and I had several ideas that would all be pretty fun. I’m honestly not sure which one I like best.

The simplest idea would be to give Gaster his own eeveelution. I would personally pick Espeon. Mainly because Psychic type seems like a good fit, and Umbreon’s associations with poison and the moon didn’t seem quite right to me. On the other hand, Espeon is considered incredibly loyal, which I liked.

My other ideas each lean more into the whole mysterious and voidy vibe.

Missingno. feels like a stretch, but I like the idea of him getting a pokemon that shouldn’t exist and feels like it would come from the void around the pokemon universe.

Another one is Giratina. I like this because Giratina’s story parallels Gasters most common fanon backstory quite well. Although, between its size and personality, it probably wouldn’t be great for story telling. The pokedex entries mention it being violent a lot.

Finally, an Unown or two would be cool. They remind me of wingdings, and are associated with language (kinda reminded me of fonts). They are weird and cryptic, and it would be funny seeing someone get jumpscared by the large floating letter with an eye. XD

In any case, this post is way too long, so I will continue with any new ideas, art, pictures, or writing in another post before my computer overheats.

A holiday gift for an awesome author!

This drawing was made for @nascent-chaos, for their fic “Our Place Among the Stars”. I intended to post this yesterday, then got distracted, whoops! A day late is fine, probably.

In any case, this is mostly a quick drawing I whipped up from the description of MC’s soul in chapter 27. It isn’t the best, mostly because I had no clue how to do glowy effects and stuff, so I improvised XD. (if you look really closely you can see the flecks of integrity and kindness, they are just super small.)

Holiday gift for a great author!

This is a drawing I made for a recent chapter of “I Made You to be Perfect” by @uncagedduchess. I attempted to draw Bee in her “Seduce the Mob boss” outfit from chapter 21. (Frankly, I kinda hate how stiff the pose is, especially the legs, but my attempts to fix it didn’t help, so I’m posting it as is X3.) This was mostly an excuse to try drawing some clothes while practicing with my art program.

This is my first lyric comic! Just in case, tw for blood, murder, and really unhealthy relationships, I guess?

I’m not sure how well these will load, as this is my first time posting pictures on tumblr, so here’s hoping tumblr doesn’t crunch the quality! If it does, maybe I could try to repost? Idk.

This is a lyric comic using the song “This is love” by Air Traffic Controller. The characters come from the Vargas AU made by @zarla-s, and it is absolutely fantastic! If you want to know more about the AU or the story it is based on, zarla explains it pretty well, so check out their stuff! 

I tend to ramble, so I’m going to put the comic and the rest of my spiel under a read more, for the sake of not making a huge post that’s annoying to scroll past. XD

For the sake of not reposting the chorus multiple times, I put it and the bridge together at the end, but the rest is in order. If anyone is curious about my design choices, feel free to ask. If anyone wants to redraw this better, also feel free! I know it is super messy and amateur-ish, but I was inspired to make this after I saw Zarla’s post mentioning the idea!

This took quite a while to make, and I actually intended to post this yesterday, but I think the day after Christmas is probably close enough. (,^~^)

Small note, I’m sure someone will probably notice similarities between some of my art and ones zarla posted. It’s probably most noticeable with the angel, tbh. But yeah, that was kinda on purpose? I don’t draw much, even though I enjoy it, so I’m not great at things like perspective and proportions. So, I used zarlas art as a reference for poses, trying to get close-ish to the original art without outright tracing. Then once I got more comfortable drawing the characters, I branched out more, like with the dancing scene. (^w^)

Any text in light grey/white is Edgar singing, dark grey is Scri, red is Nny, black is Nny and Scriabin, and for one scene the orange to red gradient is the waste-lock parasite speaking. I hope I did alright and kept it all mostly in character!

(Also, may I suggest “Mr. Fear” by siames as being sung to Edgar by Scriabin? It just feels like it fits.) 

(I own nothing but my own drawings, the Vargas AU and fic are Zarlas, and the original story is from “Johnny the Homicidal Maniac” by  Jhonen Vasquez.)

You know what I’m actually slightly mad about? I was going through my screenshots (mostly because I have so many I cant even remember what all is in there) and I found some that are of funny moments from fanfiction. 

The issue is... most of them are from before I got an ao3 account, so I didn’t bookmark any of them. And while I can remember where some of them are from, most of them I need to search to find them again.

However, while I can tell what fandom they are from based on any character names in the screen shots, if there isn’t anything more specific in the picture it means I would need to go searching through possibly thousands of stories (using find in page on the entire work) just to find them again. That’s assuming they weren’t just deleted!

I am very frustrated by my middle school self’s tendency towards saving things but not labeling them. It means that college me (with better mental health) needs to do it years later... oof.

Deltarune chapter 2, possible spoiler warning! Also maybe spoilers for a certain comic! Might as well warn for my long as heck rant too. I am incapable of being concise unless forced to be. XP

I have been in love with deltarune chapter 2, I swear! Who else is kinda excited to notice both chapters have a secret boss with some level of 4th wall breaking knowledge that previously knew a shop keeper. Once the full game comes out, we will know if its a pattern I guess!

ALSO! I don’t know how many people reading this have also read the comic, but there is a deltarune comic that seems to have nearly predicted some parts in deltarune chapter 2. It’s called Papertrail by lynx-griffon, and its so good! 

SPOILERS BELOW!

So yeah, it has lots of stuff from chapter 2, like Noelle entering the darkworld, having ice powers (although i suppose thats pretty common sense given her theme), it being possible to have darkworlds outside of the school, and the fact that lightners can actively create them, as opposed to stumbling across them like Narnia. I am kinda hoping other stuff they included turns out to be accurate as well!

Also, @baka-monarch, have you played it yet? if so, we gotta talk about it! i’m not completely done with chapter 2 yet, but you also know I am incapable of avoiding spoiling stuff for myself. (unpopular opinion, spoiling stuff isn’t always bad, at least not when its just for yourself. don’t spoil stuff for others though.) If you have played, I suspect you would like Swatch, Spamton, and the Swatchton ship. Swatch has given everyone gender envy (even me somehow, their androgyny is on point), and a decently sized group of people agree Spamton possibly transed his gender. Their ship is just 10/10 fancy boi x trash goblin content.

A small update on my Nightmare doll. I've done a lot lol! And I forgot to take pictures of all of it. I just got into the zone and forgot to take them.

So, here I screwed all the tentacles on. One thing you'll notice is that the tentacles placements will all change. I forgot how heavy apoxie is so I had to make adjustments.

I also cut off the poor dolls chest. Nightmare doesn't have them so off they go lol. Even though now it looks like he's wearing a boob tube XD

I wanted to keep the moving parts so the torso can still move around and bow. I don't want this doll to be static.

Head back on and small details done on the face. Yeah, you can see that the tentacles have moved again. I messed up and did a whole tentacle in one go. Silly mistake there. Apoxie is heavy and I had to tie it up so it didn't collapse completely. I forgot a lot of things in 8 years.

The first pass of apoxie done. It looks a mess lol! I'm going to make a trident at some point, so I have a sculpting tool taking its place at the moment. Also, changed the hands. The other ones didn't fit the look I'm going for.

Second and final pass with the apoxie. I've also bulked out the dolls arms, back and sides. It can still move though, I want to be able to pose this doll as much as possible.

I used 4lb of apoxie sculpt on this doll... Nightmare is officially a melee weapon XD.

All I have to do now is sand everything down as smooth as possible, pop on the suckers (that's going to be tedious lol) then the real fun can begin... the paint up...

How do you (“how does one”) shop for a therapist?

Can you call up a therapist and be like “hi, I’m therapist shopping”? Can you schedule an appointment with a therapist and then be like “actually I have some questions and I want to spend part of this appointment talking about your practice and whether or not it is garbage?”? Are you expected to phone interview/screen your therapists if you are shopping around for a therapist?

If you’re seeing one therapist are you supposed to/not supposed to tell them if you start seeing another therapist? Is it possible to cheat on your therapist?

How do I accurately represent tired in words?

I’ve been working on a lyric comic for a few weeks now because zarla managed to get me interested in a niche fandom and an absolute goblin of an oc from their fanfic. The comic is taking so long because of my accursed homework. I want it to be Dec. 12th already so it can be winter break. >:(

Also, I’ve never spent much time practicing drawing, so some of the time is literally just me searching through their tumblr for a good piece of reference art. I’m so tired, yet determined to finish what I started. It is a pretty good fic too. I’ve been enjoying the dynamic between Scriabin and Edgar.

I get, “you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain” vibes from this one XD

I gotta ask, how many people learn more than they ever thought they would about a fandom via fandom osmosis? Also, for what fandom? Like, I’m not even a mcyt watcher, but by virtue of dating someone in the fandom, I actually know some lore for things like dream smp. I even sent them a song video I guessed would be accurate to the fandom, and was right. At this point, I’m just counting the days before I am also a big fan of mcyt, given that that’s how I became a Homestuck fan too. XD
