“ Since Britain still shows no sign of willingness to come to an agreement in spite of her hopeless military situation, I have decided to prepare and, if necessary carry out, a landing operation against England.”
Operation Sea Lion (Unternehmen Seelöwe) , Hitler’s planned offensive against Britain, which would bear him triumphantly to London, was set for September 15, 1940.

Drawn for my art trade with my lovely friend and coworker tapiocadraws! I haven’t drawn Hetalia in 3 years now, so doing this piece has been both nostalgic and a lot of fun! English and Canadian history has always fascinated me the most, so of course they are my favourite characters on the show! x

Fun fact: The current British accent we all know and love is really a recent development that came to be shortly after the American Revolution. There’s lots of speculation and nothing really clear why (that I found) but one source I read said it was because new money Brits who were once part of the working class wanted to distinguish themselves apart from their lower class beginnings and it just caught on and became the standard. So all in all generic American and Canadian accents are closer to the original pronunciation of English than the British accents.
remember you belong to me
this started with just alfred and arthur but then became a 1770s colonial!americas sketchdump. because i was just thinking how the american revolutionary war didn’t take place in a vacuum- all the resulting political developments did have an impact on other colonies too. and the inherent irony of the french and spanish empires supporting the 13 colonies, you know?
(mexico and haiti are my ocs!)
More ww2 Canada this remind me off my soldier n housewife plot I did lone time ago :^o
I figure out how to draw them fancy crush caps and went a bit over board.
i think the canadian military is greatly underestimated sometimes- our air force in WW2 was tasked in hunting for U-boats in the atlantic, but the most important area of operations was in europe where 48 canadian squadrons served!
one of our greatest contributions was thanks to the formation of No.6 group, a royal canadian air force formation within bomber command. “many canadian airmen fought in the battle of britain, north africa, italy and the normandy invasian. roughly 17,00 died, the majority of this while serving with bomber command.” we were badass ok

Okay, so for the past few years whenever ANZAC Day comes around, I draw something Hetalia-related. And this time, I decided to focus on New Zealand! Because there weren’t be a ‘NZ’ in ‘ANZAC’ without them!
Also, while researching for WW1 New Zealand uniforms, I came across the Bulford Kiwi - a giant chalk carving kiwi bird that was carved on the side of a hillside in England. And…according to Wikipedia:
“After the war was over the troops were eager to return home, but no troop ships were available. In the wake of riots by disaffected New Zealanders, officers decided that the troops should be kept busy carving an enormous kiwi into the chalk of the hill.”
And I think that’s just hilarious because it’s not just Australia who causes migraines for England!
‘—until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old—’
as i see it, arthur and a lot of people may have naturally looked to alfred—his eldest son, the heir, the industrial colossus—for deliverance. but it’s matthew who is by his side from the start. matt’s the second prince; the one at times overlooked and taken for granted by arthur. but it’s matt who steps into the breach in 1940; sending men and women and food and weaponry, so disaster doesn’t turn into annihilation. matt, reliable and grimly prepared to do the crucial job of holding the line, whilst america’s interventionists contended with its isolationists. in my headcanon, he’s quieter and cuts a seemingly less bold figure than his brother—but when the time calls for it, he’s icily steadfast and ruthless. the new world stepping forth to the rescue and liberation of the old? yes, but in more ways than one.
die you commie fucker
this was based on the 1987 punch up in piestany so um lol

Drawn for a friend who wanted to see the ballad of the Erlkönig with Gilbert and Karl and I got right on it because that’s rad as shit. Gilbert taking Karl away to safety but death follows. Couldn’t decide which version I liked more, difference is tiny but it mattered to me!!
who wants to see a great political cartoon from ww1 I found while looking for references of Vimy Ridge?
Oh yeah I totally forgot to post this to tumblr until I thought about it. Something for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall
Gilbert and Ludwig celebrate their reunion among their citizens!
I love so much these two
What’s your strategy in this??
this past weekend i was talking to my japanese fruk dj artist pal about how i really want to (still) make a dj chronicling my fr headcanons of his differing stances towards reform vs revolution but if we’re being honest it’s because i want to talk about louis-philippe for 50 pages, GOD i want to talk about louis-philippe for 50 pages
1944 mood, as i see it: a father endlessly relieved to see his eldest son, mixed in with a not-so-subtle power struggle for the future of the world.
someone recently commented on my France sketches and it got me wondering… why haven’t I drawn him properly with short hair yet?
well, this is the result. I hadn’t been able to make a clean artwork in a while so it was quite refreshing. I also wanted to draw a France with the proper WW2 uniform colors. As for his hair - it’s a headcanon of mine that he cut it shortly after the occupation, either symbolically or just out of necessity. Either way he’s still fabulous like that (and he knows it).
Another thing I like to imagine is that despite the catastrophic beginning of the war, France doesn’t become dispirited or pessimistic. He’s an old nation and though this is the first time his head has been so close to the water, he’s used to toughing it out. So I imagine him retaining his calm and being his usual suave self in the face of adversity.

I always feel a bit bad about laughing at operation Cottage but…
These two share one brain cell and they both forgot it at home.

“Run! To the bunker!”
Last days of the uprising. The greatest and the most despicable all leaps for freedom. He swore he voted against it and yet his honour did not let him abandon the men and women he had fought for for the last five years… and of course he joined the fights. How could he not? It was his duty. Somehow, on those chilly September days he found himself reminiscing about his life and his choices. The good and the bad, the ones he regretted and the ones he had found joy in. Just an old man reflecting on his decisions even though they did not matter in the larger perspective. In the end it all led to one September day. When t h a t d a y came, paradoxically, he was and he was not ready. And yet, without a second thought he led his men through the flames into the bunker, as the sky fell on him. A single foolish Pole for whom the world had truly ended.
ah yes, did i mention he literally died in ‘44?

Happy birthday England, the entire definition of badassery.
WW2 photo studies with a touch of color by yours truly Listen, I’m not a fan of the ‘Arthur’s grumpy all the time’ hc but WW2 was rough on him. That’s why I believe he tremendously appreciated Matthew’s presence. Matthew was one of his main pillars of strength, not so much in terms of reinforcements (though those certainly shouldn’t be overlooked) but in terms of emotional support. He was the one who knew how to deliver bad news and maintain his presence of mind in the face of them. Alfred on the other hand went into the war a bit shaken up but quickly regained his composure and even more quickly turned it into confidence. I imagine Arthur acted annoyed at his cockiness but deep down found it reassuring. ps The second reference I used was a photo of Roosevelt and Churchill and man those two are a treasure trove for Alfred and Arthur vibes.
Nico can’t remember what Bianca’s voice sounded like Drew, Lacy, Mitchell, Valentina and the rest of the Aphrodite cabin can’t remember Silena’s voice Will, Kayla, Austin and the rest of the Apollo can’t remember Michael’s or Lee’s voice Nyssa, Harley, Jake and the rest of Cabin Nine can’t remember Charlie’s voice Pollux can’t remember Castor’s voice even through they sounded the same Chris, the Stolls, Cecil, Alice, and Julie can’t remember Luke’s voice and probably don’t want to Annabeth had forgotten Thalia’s voice until Thalia was back
Because the first thing you forget about a dead person is their voice
When Nico and Will announced their quest to the camp, their reaction wasn’t all that surprising: everybody had thought they’d gone mad. People didn’t just go to Tartarus and come back with all of themselves intact. In fact, most didn’t come back at all. So for them to willingly go there? Nobody took it well.
Despite that, the campers still bid them goodbye with encouragement and “good luck”’s. As per tradition, the Apollo cabin prepared a shroud for Will. Since Nico didn’t have any siblings at camp, they made one for him, too. As days go by, the campers all wait in silent anticipation and worry for the return of their head medic and the child of hades they’ve grown fond of.
It was on the two week mark when they returned. The campers had a capture the flag game that night, when suddenly, Nico slipped out of the shadows, drenched in blood. Will wasn’t faring any better. They were rushed to the infirmary, where they were taken care of.
The next morning, Nico disappeared into his cabin and didn’t come back. Will brushed everyone off with a reassuring smile, explaining that Nico needed some alone time after what happened at Tartarus. Nobody thought much about it– the son of hades had a lot of demons to deal with after all.
Whatever progress Nico did before their quest was ruined. He reverted back to his previous self, to the Nico who refused to stay with others, to the Nico who hid in his cabin. He barely talked to the few friends he made at camp, either. With every passing day, his eye bags got darker, and his skin more pale looking. Nowadays, he was either in his cabin or reluctantly talking to Dionysus.
It was clear to everyone that Will tried his best to help Nico. He reminded him to eat, to sleep, he was there when he had night terrors, he often urged him to the infirmary if he got a little bit sick. Although Nico wasn’t in the best place mentally, he still managed weak smiles and tight hugs to convey his gratitude to his boyfriend.
Everyone tried their best to make Nico feel comfortable at camp, and not to cross any boundaries. They made sure to pay attention to his mood and what not. So much so, they didn’t notice that Nico wasn’t the only one who changed.
One moment nobody knew, and the next, the entire camp was whispering about it. It started when Austin received a camera from his mother for his birthday. He urged his siblings to pose for a family photo together, under the sun. When the photo was printed, he stared at it with a smile, admiring their happy faces and their shining eyes. That is until he noticed Will.
Will, just like everyone else, was smiling. His grin was wide and almost split his face in half, his left dimple popping out. It would have looked endearing, if it wasn’t for the fact that his blue eyes were dull, devoid of light. If Austin were to cover the bottom half of his brother’s face, his eyes looked even more… unsettling.
During dinner, he noticed it too. His brother talked and laughed just as usual, however, his eyes looked dull and almost… dead. They didn’t hold any emotion whatsoever, as if his laughs and teases were only for show… was it?
Austin talked about it to Kayla. Then Kayla mentioned it to her buddies at the archery range.
Next thing they know, the entire camp would subtly glance at the head medic’s eyes, and their worries were confirmed once they saw the dark and lightless blue staring into the horizon, as if he simply wasn’t there.
