I made a post a while back mainly talking about shitty takes from muslims on Tiktok, and ended up talking about my view of self-love, as someone who was born disabled and who has struggled with body image throughout my life. I decided a while back that I wanted to turn part of what I said into a poem and illustrate it, which was a bit ambitious, but I stuck to it. And here’s the final product. I’m pretty proud of it.

The verses in the background are the first 4 verses from Surah at-Tin, because it’s probably the verse I think about most when thinking about the idea of being made perfect.

No but to be serious guys i didnt expect that movie to be that kind of good. I expected great fights. I expected complicated morals. I did not expect that movie to say i know everything seems hopeless but you dont get a choice, you have to try. I did not expect that movie to say when we are up against an impossible, unjust threat the only way through is freely given kindness and forgiveness. I did not expext that movie to say the real way villans win is by preying on those we’ve already decided are hopeless. I did not expect that movie to say we all have to believe we can get better. Please believe me we can all get better. Oh my god.

Not to be political but I’m just so fucking angry right now

Surya Bonaly was a black Olympic figure skater for France in the 1990’s. During one of her routines, she did a backflip.

Yes, you heard me. A fucking backflip. On ICE.

No-one else has done that since.

Anyway, the judges were racist as hell, and didn’t like that one bit. A black woman showing up the competition? God forbid. So they told her the move didn’t count for her score because she didn’t land on one leg, like people are apparently supposed to in Olympic figure skating.

In response, this incredible woman, during her next routine, did another backflip and landed on one leg. What’s more, she finished the routine with her back to the judges, like a boss.

Predictably, the judges didn’t like that either. They said she shouldn’t do that anymore, since it was “too dangerous” and they didn’t want her encouraging others to try to do the same (nevermind that triple axels and shit are dangerous as fuck too).

But she kept doing it.

Again.

And again.

It was like her personal ‘fuck you’ to the judges every time she performed.

Because this woman is a badass.

Anyway, I’m just so mad that they refused to give her marks for fucking backflipping on ice. I’m mad that she only ever got silver. And I’m furious that I’d never heard of her till now.

I'm sure this has been said before, but I don't care. While I was working on a little bit of planning and world building for my future TOH/Gravity Falls- Post Timeskip Fic; I noticed something hilarious.
