Tamlin: Feyre, I love you so much bae, sorry I hurt you, I didn’t mean it, you just provoked me. I still love you and you still love me, right?
Feyre: Yeah
Feyre: *internally*
Me!! I even managed to snag one of the Sarah J Maas signing tickets!!
Since I drew Feyre, I might as well draw Rhys, right? XD
sometimes i feel like it suddenly became ~cool~ in this fandom to like…not be super enthusiastic about sarah’s books? and to always use disclaimers like “well, it’s sarah so *rolls eyes* obviously the prose was terrible” or “idk like this is good for ya fantasy” or….idk, just stupid stuff like that. I feel like people are afraid of enthusiastically loving these books, because if you admit you love them too much then like shame on you for daring to enjoy something that doesn’t check all the tumblr boxes on what “unproblematic” media is.
and that so shit??? because this is fandom and so while we are always going to have criticisms, we should never be afraid to love this thing enthusiastically. LIKE IS THAT NOT WHY WE ARE ALL HERE?
and I feel myself doing it sometimes and it’s like wait…stop, no I actually really love these books, and there isn’t really a “but” in there. there’s room to criticize but there shouldn’t ever be any room to feel ashamed of really loving something, despite or even because of its flaws.
so for the fucking record, let me state that I ADORE THESE BOOKS MORE THAN ANY OTHER BOOKS AND SARAH COULD HONESTLY PROBABLY WRITE ANYTHING AND I WOULD LOVE IT.
and i refuse to adjust my enjoyment of something simply because this hellscape of a website wants to tell me that i am a bad person/uncritical reader for enjoying it as much as i do.
Don't forget Snow White! A poisoned apple and crazy weird mirror!!
I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite references in ACOWAR because it really does make the story way more fun! (These are mostly my own observations/ideas and nothing too official).
I’ll add more tomorrow when I have time… but off the top of my head I remember:
Koeschi: probably from the Russian folk tale Koschei the Deathless
Stryga: the same name as that main chimera on Notre Dame!
Vassa: a reference to the Russian folk tale The Firebird and Princess Vasilia (although her story also sounds like it’s blended with Swan Lake). A lot of other recent YA books have retold this one too yay
I got serious Exodus vibes from Nephelle’s story
Lord Thanatos. lol
Thesan, the Etruscan Goddess of dawn
the Morrigan (which still makes me so happy)
Andromache
pretty sure Azriel is named after Azrael, the Angel of Death
Madja the healer: I read about an ancient Egyptian archeological site where they found a healer’s body and named her Madja but maybe that’s a total coincidence
not sure if Dagdan is a reference to The Dagda but that was my first thought… especially the association with the cauldron
Idk if Elain is a reference to the Arthurian legend where Elaine the Fair (or The Lady of Shallott if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan) dies of unrequited love… but that kind of fits.
the Myrmidons: I’m taking this in the Achilles context
Eris, the Greek goddess of discord
I think the Illyrian stuff is obvious but there’s that
Helion’s probably a form of Helios, the Titan god of the sun
I totally googled this after a certain plot point: Lucien means “light/illumination” and that’s rather fitting haha. He’s also a prince in Persian mythology buuut I don’t think that really fits.
the Naga
And this is old news but still makes me sad when people don’t know it, so: the ancient Scottish ballad of Tam Lin
Ouroboros!
and then there are the obvious influences in earlier books of Beauty & the Beast, Hades/Persephone, Cinderella (with how she had to pick the lentils out of the fireplace before she could go to the “ball” in ACOTAR), East of the Sun West of the Moon, etc…
Ok I feel like I’m forgetting a ton and I know I’ve read about a Brannagh before, so let me think on a few and add more later! I just love mythology and how many reference Maas can throw into one book.
Connected Souls
Feysand fanart for Mary @feysand17 for the ACOWAR exchange hosted by @squaddreamcourt I’m not much of a smutty or fluffy artist, but i hope you like it anyway!
Inspired by the acowar back cover
boy, this took a loooong time to finish
Rhys sleeps naked
Inspiration is not always there when we need it but I still wanted to share these unfinished arts of Feyre and Rhysand because I’m so excited for ACOWAR!!!
The first was the scene in the summer court, when Feyre makes water float around them. The second was the bathtub scene, right before Feyre cleans Rhysand’s wings. I’m sad I never finished them but they felt visually flat and I couldn’t keep working on them. Thought I was quite happy with the faces, especially in the second drawing.
The High Lord and Lady of the Night Court—the first of many sketches to come.
Here is my entry for the coloring contest @meabhd has so wonderfully decided to hold.
Feyre and Rhysand. Linework by @meabhd. Color by me. I wanted to keep most of the sketch lines, because I really love them. Thank you for holding this contest!
Edit: Decided to add the more subdued version too. Just a sweet moment between Feyre and Rhysand.

Well this sounds terrifying!

welp it’s almost 3am, but here they are! almost as close as to how i picture them all!!! (i say almost because i’m still having difficulties with cas lmao)
hope you like it all :D if you’re interested in posts with just rhys/feyre or whatever, let me know! i’m not opposed to selling prints either (or of any of my acomaf art) even though these are just “sketches” hahaha
Finally finished Feyre darling. Website | Twitter | Instagram | DeviantART | ArtStation |
So these are some of my favourites pieces of line art I’ve done recently. These are for a colouring competition I am now running! As I said before I have no time to produce any art work for the next two months so this is how I’m compensating!
So the rules: - Pick one of these drawings and colour it. Do whatever you want, change who the characters are, or keep who they are supposed to be (I’ll leave a list at the end of the post). Make it lineless, keep the lines, fix them up - I know I can be messy. - when you are finished, tag me and also tag it with #mevdee - Enter as many times as you want!
DEADLINE: 24TH APRIL (my birthday)
Prizes: Myself and my dear friends will be judging the drawings and choosing two winners. First prize is a full colour (or whatever style you want) commission with up to 3 characters. Second prize is a flat colour commision of 1 character. These can be OCs or fanart.
Hope you guys enjoy this! I’m excited anyway cause I’m definitely not the best with colour and will love to see what you do with them!
List of characters: Kaz and Inej, Elide and Lorcan, Parvati and Lavender, Aelin and Rowan, Sam and Celaena, Dorian and Manon, Feyre and Rhysand, Amren and Feyre, Will and Lyra, Feyre and Rhysand.

Quick scribble that turned into more when I slapped color on it… whoops.
I knew I saw that dress somewhere before!
Look at that! She wears the dress from @charliebowater magnificent drawing!
acotar was the longest prologue I’ve ever read because let’s be honest, the story starts in acomaf
Easy and very effective
Requires nothing but your body
Includes attack
She said softly, “You make me want to live, Rowan. Not survive; not exist. Live.”
-Sarah J. Maas @sjmaas Queen of Shadows
Sorry for the low quality of the picture. The original looks a lot better, but since tumblr’s upload is limited to 10 MB and mine was way above that it looks so cropped… So far my favorite of the series! If I’d had more time, I would have read it in a day, but I think four days is rather quick as well. This book introduced so many new, amazing characters and the dynamic of the story just knocked me of my feet. Seriously in love with these books!
You can get the print here. And also a better version here.
Reblogs are loved.
“you can leave if you’re just going to insult me.”
“but i’m so good at it.”
∟ Happy holidays to @kay-emm-gee (part ½)!
Death and Evie from The Arcana Chronicles <3
I’m finally up to speed after reading Arcana Rising! I think I put off carrying on with this series after finishing Dead of Winter because of how GOD DAMN HEART BROKEN I WAS.
DEATH </3
I really enjoy Arcana Chronicles EVEN IF IT (REALLY) FRUSTRATES THE HELL OUT OF ME. Death is the sweetest of cinnamon rolls and I love him so AND PLEASE DON’T DO IT, KRESLEY COLE. I’m just here for Death.
