your f/o wouldnt be "out of character" for knowing all the little things about you or how you respond to things. they wouldnt be "out of character" for just picking up or just knowing things. you know where that comes from? familiarity. they may not have learned it from the get-go. maybe it took time for them, or maybe they are that perceptive or understanding on their own, but if they weren't, they would still learn it over time. your f/o can spend enough time with you to learn every little thing about you, and the f/o that cares about you so much wouldn't mind if you just suddenly needed something from them without explanation, or asking for it every time in certain scenarios.
do loud noises freak you out? do you need to hide when there's lots of people? f/o would know if you just buried into them or held their hands for them to cover your ears or your eyes, or hold your head. f/o would know over time of where that probably comes from.
f/o wouldnt be out of character. they just had to learn first before they learned you or your languages so well that they would do it on their own even if they wouldnt for anyone else. youre not just anyone, you know! you're the one f/o cares about.
A message to the younger members of the community, and those who doubt there place in it:
Beings don't care.
I went to a therian meet up over anthro northwest. And it was NOTHING like the current online spaces, especially all the discourse.
There was no fighting. It was beautiful. Beings were freely using whatever labels they wanted, no one cared "why" someone identified as something, mental, spiritual, physical. Everyone was like "Hey, cool!".
Older folks talked about their time in the community while the younger ones did quads. People howled, played with squeak toys. No one cared. And most importantly, everyone agreed the infighting was pointless.
You WILL be accepted irl. This discourse doesn't matter. You are going to find your beings, and none of these online pissing contests mean anything once you meet others off the screen.
It's a beautiful place out there.
People underestimate how much it fucks you up to be subtly excluded as a kid. I would try to talk to my classmates and be met with disinterest or annoyance. The one friend I had, who I clung to and nodded along to his every word, had other friends he liked just as much or more. And his other friends didn’t care for me at all.
I look back at pictures from the time and see how separated I was from them. I remember knowing I was different. I remember posing questions about the world to the girls playing next to me and realizing that they had never asked the same ones to themselves. That the ways we thought couldn’t be more different.
I kept myself amused with my own fanatical stories and musings in my head. I would wander the playground on a circular path, imagining a friend and being sorely disappointed when it didn’t feel as real as I’d hoped.
There was a bubble separating me from everyone else, thin, and nearly invisible, but with a pearly sheen you could catch under the right conditions. I knew it was there, they knew it was there, and it changed me
Hello! Ao3 has been part of an unauthorized data scrape for GenAI purposes. As a lot of people aren’t familiar with plot creatures, I thought I’d shed some light on the members of the mental menagerie…
The Plot Bunny - Story ideas that come bounding in and start multiplying.
The Plot Chicken - They squawk, flap around, and shit everywhere, but when you actually need to do something with them, they scatter.
The Plot Sloth - Takes its sweet goddamned time turning into something useful.
The Plot Mule - When you mash two plots together and get something cool, but you can’t get a sequel out of it to save your life.
The Plot Cat - Lazy little bastards who take up your headspace, scare away all the other plot bunnies, but won’t actually do anything except lay there.
The Plottweiler - Barks loudly and viciously so you can’t ignore it, distracts you from everything else you want to write, but leaves you too paralyzed with fear to actually put words down.
The Plot Squirrel - Cute, distracting, full of nuts, and just TRY to keep up with that train of thought.
The Plot Bedbug - Shows up during the night, chews on you so you can’t sleep, and disappears in the daylight.
The Plot Tick - Burrows in, bleeds you dry, and leaves you with the creepy-crawlies. Mostly preys on horror writers.
The Plotroach - Totally unappealing, but so tenacious they’ll survive anything until you finally give up and write them.
What Plot Creatures have you encountered?
but i stay silly! *←said in the most world-weary voice you ever did hear*
