Takua catboy edit
You know how canaries were historically brought into coal mines, because if the mine was full of carbon monoxide the canary would die first and the miners would be able to escape before they died too?
I just found the greatest thing.
This is a canary resuscitator.
When the miners notice the canary getting sick with carbon monoxide poisoning, they can close that circular hatch so no more gas gets into the canary cage, and open the valve on that oxygen tank to keep the canary breathing. In other words, they made a spacesuit for birds.
By immediately giving the canary access to clean air, the miners can save it from the poison. The bird lives. To be clear, this is not for economic purposes, this was specifically created because the miners felt bad and wanted to save the bird.
Isn’t that just the perfect demonstration of what humans are like? We started sacrificing small creatures to save ourselves, and then felt bad and spent our valuable resources on saving the critters too. Because yeah the canary was the only way to test for CO, but it’s a living creature too, dammit!
Dume: The Dark Ages (again)
How many of the Matoran were OCs made by the Great Beings? How many of the other GSR residents were also OC builds?
This thought just took over my entire brain for the next week…
I was told to snatch his waist, so I did, along with some minor angle changes, proportion work, and figured I'd do a full-body view of this sort of 'idle' animation.
A little theory that I wanna share here: the matoran of light and shadow we got in Phantoka/Mistika years have the wrong color scheme.
'What do you mean, you crazy person?'
I'm glad you asked.
Takua was the only Av-matoran we knew of (even before they had a name) and his color was very much an outlier amongst the Ta-matoran, red and blue (and yellow) in a sea of reds, yellows and orange.
You know what has ties to the light matoran and a blue and red color scheme? Bohrok. A blue kraana inside of a red and orange shell. I don't know if that was intentional or just a design choice, but that got me thinking...
Theory: the matoran of light had similar color schemes to matoran of other elements, with a contrasting colored mask.
But how could this be a theory if I could only draw on one example? So I searched the other matoran of light sets. Blue and black, red and black, Grey and black, green and gray, orange and gray, white and gray. No, no, no, no, no, no. There had to be at least one other matoran to boost the believability of my theory...
Then it hit me. Vican. Black and like green. Just like his supposed Bohrok counterpart.
Of course the lime green wasn't exclusively on his mask but it was something!
Not only that, but when you think about it, Vican could easily have been one of the first shadow matoran, and was definitely the first to start reversing the corruption. So, his color, his light, was returning.
In summary, the matoran of light should have different colored masks.
I don't know much about SCP stuff but I feel like Bionicle has enough cosmic and body horror themes that it would be thematically appropriate to make a series of like Onu-Metru archive journal entries about the Rahi they were studying. If anyone who knows more about the SCP Foundation wants to do something with that idea please go ahead.
There's something so appealing about the dichotomy between light and sound and Av-Matoran vs. De-Matoran colour schemes. Where Av-Matoran can literally be any colour of the rainbow and beyond, while De-Matoran are monochrome. Especially when also considering that Shadow Matoran are just as colourful as Av-Matoran.
Something something in Bionicle Elemental Shadow is more of a perversion of Elemental Light than an inversion, and Elemental Sonics is its true equal and opposite counterpart.
