The Most Heartbreaking Thing About This Panel/scene In General Is That Hawks Isn’t Lying. It Was Supposed

The most heartbreaking thing about this panel/scene in general is that Hawks isn’t lying. It was supposed to be a lie. He’s supposed to be making up the most obscene things in order to trick the villains into thinking he’s on their side… but in this moment? Where he’s talking about the hero society turning out to be a bird cage that is locking him up? And how he wants to be free? It’s the honest to god truth and he knows it. Of all the times where he’s put on that fake smile, this is the one that actually looks painful.

Painful because it’s the truth. Painful because he has to use it as a lie. Painful because he’s never, ever opened up about it with anyone before but Twice, this man on the opposite side, his enemy… that he has started to grow attached to anyways. Hawks is bearing his heart to Jin in this moment, but he won’t ever know it. He’s going to be cut down, betrayed anyways because that’s just a part of this sickening job he’s stuck with to “protect people.”

Who will protect Hawks though, when he’s doing this mission singlehandedly, not being able to tell a soul about it? Who else is there to turn to but the villains around him? Little by little, he’s realizing more things about himself while infiltrating and it hits him harder than he could ever imagine.

Here, unlike his other half-hearted smiles, he can’t even open his eyes. He might actually show some emotion if he did that. He looks so… small and meager. He’s showing his teeth so awkwardly, like someone in complete submission, like someone who’s acting like it’s all okay but can crumble at any given moment. He’s crying out for help.

Hawks canonically perches on things and it makes me wonder if he was trained to perch, or if was something that came naturally to him.

Now thinking of the commissiom training Hawks how to perch, and theh are like: "Hawks, you are part bird, birds perch, you can do this. It's not that hard."

But then again, Hawks never got to fully embrace his quirk when he was young, so now it makes me wonder if he even knew his wings were bird wings, rather than just 'useless wings', as pertrayed by his father.

Hawks a birb.

Yes? NO. But yes.

Hawks’s design might have changed drastically since his first appearance but I love how you can tell that he’s so obviously still a bird.

Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell

the floofy, feather-like hair and brows, his sharp, calculating eyes with distinctive black markings, his extremely small build!

Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell
Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell

I wouldn’t be surprised if he also has hollow bones, which would explain his speed and agility over physical strength.

Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell

It’s not just physical though; it’s also the way he acts! The impulsivity, his playfulness and absolute love for flying, the way he is a carnivore and eats without chewing…

Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell

The way he switches into “kill mode” when his raptor instincts take over and his vertical pupils turn round, just like an actual Hawk locking eyes on its prey…

Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell
Hawks’s Design Might Have Changed Drastically Since His First Appearance But I Love How You Can Tell

all very good stuff, canon bird qualities

F.Hawks: Man, this blows, why don't you have a summer hero costume? It gets stupidly hot in this getup.

C.Hawks: I... I just wear what I'm told when it comes to hero work?

F.Hawks: You haven't asked, have you?

C.Hawks: No.

F.Hawks: If you do, I want something like a tank top or something that shows off my chest.

Don't Take My Bird (MHA Fanfic)

I'm apparently capable of posting on AO3, but forgetting about poor tumblr. But here's the latest fic I made as a gift for an artist on tumblr!

Please enjoy!

“Hello. You can call us X. You may have heard of us, and what it is we do, but just in case you pitiful heroes are actually that stupid, we’ll tell you.” A lone figure in a mask appeared on the screen, dressed in an immaculate suit that gave no idea as to the person’s identity. Their voice was muffled, and clearly being broadcast through a voice changer to prevent anyone that was watching, from knowing who they were. “We’re the criminal organization that has decided to do what the League of Villain’s is too cowardly to do; kill the heroes. Heroes have plagued our society for far too long, making rules that the rest of us must follow, and participating in blatant discrimination. This can't be allowed to go on, but since everyone continues to worship these wolves in sheep’s skin, it is up to us in Organization X, to deal with it ourselves.”

“And you may be wondering.” The person continued, spreading their arms wide open. “Why broadcast now? Why broadcast, when it’s not what we do? And you would be correct. We prefer to keep to the shadows. However, our latest prey is too good to keep hidden.” The sound of a person being manhandled sounded off camera, grunts and cries of pain being all that could be heard. A thud of a body hitting the ground was easily heard, and the person climbed from their seat, grabbing the camera and turning to face whatever hero Organization X had kidnapped.

The camera blurred briefly, but as it came back into focus, it was clear who they’d taken. The bright red wings, and blonde hair gave it away. “As you can see here, we have the Number Two hero within our custody. We figured you should see what has become of your precious hero, since this will be the last time you see him alive.” A boot appeared within the frame to give Hawks a harsh kick, the hero unable to stop the cry of pain before it escaped. The hero was in rough condition; feathers torn from his wings, blood spread across his skin, and his hero costume torn apart. The camera shifted away from Hawks, returning to face the person that had taken him. “Let this be a lesson to Japan, and the rest of the world. Hero society will end and there is nothing you can do about it.”

The broadcast was turned off at that point, everyone in the room having already watched it several times over, desperate for some kind of hint as to where Hawks was being kept. The video had played all across Japan three days ago, sending the entire country and its heroes into a panic. Everyone knew about Organization X of course; the newest villain organization that had popped up overnight, nabbing heroes in the dead of the night from their homes or patrol routes, and having them turn up dead a week later. Quite often, no one had known the heroes had even been taken until they’d turned up dead. At first, the heroes had thought it was the League of Villains killing heroes; who wouldn’t, when it was their whole gig? But as soon as the report went out about their suspicions, the League had been very quick to refute it, going as far as to explain that while they wanted to reform hero society, kidnapping and killing heroes in the dark was not their style.

That had left the heroes confuse. If it wasn’t the League, then who was killing all these heroes?

It was by sheer chance that they’d gotten their answer. Eraserhead had been patrolling one night when he’d come across some shadowed figures trying to wrangle another hero into a van. Eraserhead had managed to save the hero and capture one of the figures, but the rest of them had gotten away. The person they’d taken—a young quirkless man—had been quick talk when put under pressure, and that was when Japan and its heroes finally had an answer for these new villains; Organization X.

But knowing who these villains were hadn’t changed the fact that they couldn’t seem to track them down. Organization X tended to target heroes that weren’t high in the rankings, and they always struck in the dead of night, when heroes were tired on patrol, or resting at their homes. And months later, that was still the case. They were no closer, and more heroes were dead.

But this time they’d done something different.

They’d gone after Hawks, and broadcasted it.

And that was all the underground heroes needed.

“We’ve found out where Organization X has their main base, thanks to the efforts of Eraserhead and the other underground heroes.” Best Jeanist addressed the room that was filled with the highest-ranking pros. It reminded him of the last time they’d all come together like this; to rescue Bakugo and bring down All for One. And now they were doing it again to rescue Hawks.

“So where are the bastards?” Endeavour growled out angrily, although it was hard to tell exactly what the man was actually mad about. Best Jeanist just hoped that it was at the villains.

“They’re holed up on Rishiri Island, just off the coast of Hokkaido.” Eraserhead commented from the corner he’d hidden himself into. The man’s shoulders were slumped with exhaustion, which was to be expected with how hard he’d worked to get this vital information. “They’ve camped out inside Mount Rishiri, which is why we haven’t been able to track them down easily. Plus, we have no idea what kind of quirks these villains are harbouring.”

“Which means we’ll have to use caution if we’re going to rescue Hawks.” Edgeshot commented, a thoughtful expression on his face. “We don’t know condition Hawks will be in when we find him, or how well guarded he’ll be.”

“If he’s even alive.” Endeavour huffed. “These people kill heroes. Hawks isn’t special just because he’s high ranking.”

“Shut your mouth!” Miruko spat, ears quivering in anger. “If you think Hawks would just let these bastards kill him, then you don’t know him at all!”

A wisp of fire formed on Endeavour’s face as he spun to face the rabbit-quirked hero. “You saw the state of him in that video! He’s not in any condition to fight anyone.”

Miruko stormed up and got right up in Endeavour’s face, ready to spit fire with the Number One hero. Best Jeanist quickly interrupted before an argument could start. “That’s why we need to act fast, and why I’ve called you all here. We’ll leave within the hour to Organization X’s hideout and rescue Hawks. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you all that time is of the essence in this situation.”

“I’m not resting until Hawks is safely back with us!” Miruko pumped a fist in the air, having turned her attention back to him. Many of the other heroes echoed their agreement, leaving Best Jeanist with the hope that this mission would have a good outcome.

“This is the place.” Eraserhead said, crouching at the top of the old volcano that was Mount Rishiri, pointing at a building that was extremely well hidden. No wonder we couldn’t find these villains. Best Jeanist thought as he struggled to see the building that Eraserhead was pointing out. He was impressed that the man had even found the building in the first place. It was clear that Organization X had had no intention of being found.

“Can you see any guards?” Best Jeanist asked, glancing over his shoulder at the small group of heroes that were with him. They’d decided to separate into groups upon arrival at the mountain, encircling the top of the crater to prevent the villains from escaping when they attacked. Best Jeanist’s own group included Eraserhead and Miruko—since he didn’t trust the woman to lead her own group right now—along with Eraserhead’s co-workers from UA; Ectoplasm and Present Mic. The rest of the top ten were leading their own groups, awaiting instructions once his group has completed their surveillance of the area.

“No.” Eraserhead frowned as he looked through the binoculars. “There’s no sign of anyone even being here. Which is odd for a villain organization to do. Even one as hidden as this one is.”

Beast Jeanist hummed, stroking his chin thoughtfully. “What do you recommend we do then?”

“We can’t just go barging in, guns-a-blazing?” Present Mic butted in, coming up to join them. “If there’s no one outside, they won’t know we’re coming.”

Eraserhead looked over and gave his colleague a withering look. “Do that and we might just find ourselves walking into a trap, idiot.” The underground hero looked over his shoulder. “Ectoplasm, can you send a clone down to scout? Might give us a better idea of how to proceed.”

“Sure.” Ectoplasm quickly regurgitated a clone and instructed it to scout and report back. Now they just had to wait.

“Ugh, come on!” Miruko stomped the ground impatiently. “Why do we even have to wait? There’s no guards! Let’s just go!”

“Patience, Mirko.” Best Jeanist said. “Let’s just wait for Ectoplasm’s clone to get back. Then we’ll act. I promise.”

A tense silence descended over the group as they waited for Ectoplasm’s clone to return. It felt like hours had passed, when it had in fact only been several minutes, that the clone returned. They waited patiently for the clone to report its findings; Ectoplasm recalling the clone to him once it was done.

“Well?” Miruko huffed. “Can we attack?”

Ectoplasm looked troubled, and he looked from Miruko to Best Jeanist. “Something’s wrong. The clone said the door’s been busted open, and that there’s two bodies that’ve been burnt beyond recognition.”

“Burnt?” Best Jeanist frowned. Had Endeavour jumped the gun and gone on ahead? No, Endeavour wouldn’t stoop as low as killing villains. It would go against everything they were as heroes. Something else had burned the guards… or someone. “I think we need to get down there. Now.” He activated the communicator that linked them all. “Everyone, we’re moving in, but be careful. Something’s not right.”

Eraserhead stood, pulling his googles over his eyes. “Let’s get moving.”

Best Jeanist led the charge down the hill, skilfully dodging the foliage as it rose to meet him. He was quickly overtaken by Miruko and Eraserhead, the two heroes more skilled at navigating dense areas than the rest of them were. They met up with the other groups the further they descended, and before they knew it, they were at the entrance to the villain’s hideout. Immediately, Best Jeanist’s gaze was drawn to the corpses that Ectoplasm’s clone had spotted, the stench of burnt flesh drifting through the hair.

Only once the rest of the heroes were assembled did Best Jeanist address them. “We don’t know what we’re facing here. Split up into your groups and search the building for Hawks or any of the Organization X members. We’ll rendezvous here in an hour.” With quiet nods of agreements, the heroes split up and entered the building, all of them in a high state of caution.

Best Jeanist gestured for Eraserhead to go first, trusting the other to lead the way. The man gave him a simple nod, and they entered the building. For once, Miruko was silent, although Best Jeanist could see it was more out of worry for her missing friend than anything else. But as they ventured further into the building, the more Best Jeanist’s own worry turned to confusion. Every so often, they’d come across a body that was burnt to a crisp, with no way of identifying who they’d once been. This doesn’t make any sense. Did someone get here before us? Best Jeanist thought, noticing that the further they walked, the stronger the smell of burnt flesh grew.

“What’s that smell? It reeks.” Miruko’s face scrunched up, the rabbit hero bringing a hand up to cover her nose. He’d forgotten that the woman’s nose was much more sensitive thanks to her quirk. A sudden thought crossed his mind.

“Miruko. Can you track where the smell is strongest?” Best Jeanist asked.

“I guess so…” Miruko didn’t sound all to enthused about the idea, not that he could blame her really. Death smelt bad enough, let alone people who’d died after being burnt. “Why?”

“Hawks probably had a lot of people around him, so if we follow the smell, we may find him.”

Miruko’s ears perked up at the idea, and she threw them all a massive grin. “Oh yeah, I getcha! Follow me!” Miruko sniffed the air, nose crinkling at the smell, but she continued to lead the way through the winding hallways of the building, leading them past more burnt corpses, more appeared the further they went.

Finally, they reached the room where the smell was strongest. Best Jeanist’s own nose crinkled at the smell, and he heard a gagging sound come from Miruko’s direction. He couldn’t imagine how she was even handling it. “Thank you, Miruko. If you need to leave, that’s okay.”

“Hell no. My friend could be through those doors, so I’m not giving up now!” Miruko snapped, pushing open the door before anyone could say anything.

They were greeted by a scene of absolute carnage. Blood splattered the floor, some of it on the ceiling and the walls, and there were so many burnt corpses. It left Best Jeanist questioning if any of the Organization X members had even survived the attack. But what caught everyone’s attention was the pile of red feathers in the middle of the room, many of them burnt, and some still smouldering. Few were intact. Shit.

“He’s not here!” Miruko cried, rushing towards the feathers with a stricken look on her face. “What the hell even happened here?”

“Someone got here before us, that’s for sure.” Eraserhead walked around the room, studying everything from the corpses to the Hawks’ feathers.

“I’m not sure what happened here.” Best Jeanist frowned, unable to come up with an answer to their problem. But the fact that Hawks’ feathers were the only thing here, meant that the Number Two hero had either escaped his situation, and was hiding somewhere, or been taken by whoever had done this. “We need to regroup. Hawks is missing, and we have no clue as to where he is. And we have no idea what his condition is.”

-----

Hawks hadn’t asked to be kidnapped. In fact, he’d been looking forward to getting home and passing out in his bed after a long day of patrol; having a rare day off the next day. But no, he’d gotten home only to be jumped by strangers he didn’t recognize. He’d tried to fight them off, of course; he was the Number Two hero after all, so it was rather pathetic when he went to use his wings, only to find that they’d become useless lumps attached to his back. It had been a quirk similar to Eraserhead’s, rendering his own useless, and as he’d stood there confused, they’d used the opportunity to bind and gag him, dragging him from his own apartment into a van. It had been at that moment that he’d realized who these people were, and he’d found it hard to keep his fear under control. The knowledge that if no one came for him; he would die, was a very frightening thought.

He’d endured three days of agonizing pain as the leaders of Organization X tore apart his wings; burning them, crushing them; anything to keep the pain constant. But it wasn’t just his wings they targeted. If he didn’t react to his feathers being abused, they would turn to abusing the rest of him, taunting him all the while about his upcoming death. Had this been what the other heroes that they’d killed had dealt with? He hoped not.

It was the fourth day that something changed.

The leader of Organization X had come for him, dragging him by his bindings to the room where they tortured him endlessly. The man had thrown him into the centre of the room, ignoring his cries of pain. It didn’t take long for Hawks to notice the camera in the room; he’d have to be blinded in order to not see it. And he knew just what the camera’s purpose was. To film his death. He knew he shouldn’t have been surprised that Organization X would do such a thing. They’d never targeted someone as high ranking as him before, so they probably wanted some record of it to look back on.

But he hadn’t died. Sure, he’d had more pain inflicted on him, but he hadn’t been killed.

Hawks couldn’t help the sigh of relief that escaped upon realizing that he wasn’t going to die then and there. Of course, after three days of torture, he should’ve remembered that making any kind of noise brought on the pain. He tensed, awaiting the kicking, or whatever method they chose this time. But nothing came. Yet he waited. And waited. It wasn’t until he allowed himself to relax a little that the villains acted. Pain blossomed in his shoulder, radiating down his arm and through his wing. He could feel the uncomfortable sensation of something buried within his shoulder, and that was when he realized he’d been stabbed.

Rough hands grabbed his hair, yanking him up so his upper body was hanging in the air. “Don’t think we’re not killing you, hero. You’ve still got three more days of torture to get through before we finally end your life.” The Organization’s leader growled in his ear. “That video is just a nice little message to the rest of Japan showing what’s become of their precious hero.”

Hawks tried to open his mouth to speak, but whatever came out was just one big slur of a word. He didn’t think he’d been hit in the head, but it was hard to tell when he had so many other injuries to think about.

“Oh, does the wee little hero think someone’s coming for him?” The leader mocked. The man dropped him suddenly, laughing as he walked towards the entrance. Hawks just blinked, his eyes slowly tracking the man, watching as he stopped just before the door. “They wouldn’t waste their time on such a pathetic excuse for a hero.”

Hawks just stared at the leader, the words he so desperately wanted to spit at the man, dying within his throat. There was a part of him that was sure someone would come for him; even now, after four days of being beaten and hurt, he still hoped that they were looking for him. “Y-You’re… wro—ong…” Hawks managed to say, the effort of doing so making his throat throb painfully.

“What did—” The leader spun around, anger on his face, but before he could finish his question, the door was flung open, a jet of blue fire following. The man screamed in agony as his skin bubbled and burned, collapsing when a boot drove itself into his back.

“He said,” Dabi’s face appeared as the last of his flames died away. “That you were wrong.”

Hawks had never thought he’d ever be relieved to see a villain, but he couldn’t help the relief that flooded him at the familiar sight of Dabi and his scars as the man continued to shoot flames at the people in the room who had made the poor decision to try charging the villain. Hawks could see that Dabi’s expression was one of intense rage, a look he only wore if something had truly pissed him off, and he wondered briefly how Dabi had even found him in the first place, especially since it appeared that the villain was alone.

Hawks was suddenly overcome with exhaustion at the realization that he was safe. His eyes began to close, despite his best efforts to keep them open. He couldn’t hear screaming anymore, or the sound of Dabi’s flames; instead, only smelling the distinct scent of charred flesh. A hand tapped his cheek, coaxing him to open his eyes. Hawks was proud of himself when he managed to open them, Dabi’s face right in front of him. “You… came for… me?”

“Of course I did, you stupid bird.” Dabi scoffed.

Hawks gave the villain one of his usual smiles, his eyes slipping shut once again. This time, a comforting darkness swirled around him. He could hear Dabi calling for him, and faintly registered a something touching him. But Hawks just wanted to rest and escape the pain, if only for a short bit, so he let the darkness take him.

The first thing Hawks registered was the sound of a television playing, quickly recognizing it as the news channel that the League of Villains enjoyed having on in the background while they relaxed. Hawks had found it weird the first time he’d witnessed it, but the League was a weird bunch to begin with. The weird bunch that rescued you, Hawks. His subconscious provided helpfully as he began to listen to the report that was playing.

“Japan’s hero society has continued to be confused at the mysterious disappearance of the Number Two hero, Hawks. Just yesterday, the top heroes of the country discovered where Hawks was being held and launched a rescue mission, only to arrive and find the hero missing once again. It is unknown at this point in time who was involved, but the Number One hero, Endeavour, and the rest of the top ten have said they will not stop until Hawks has been found—”

Hawks let the report fade into the background, not really wanting to know what the media thought about everything that had happened. Although it was reassuring to know that his fellow heroes had come for him, even if they hadn’t gotten there before Dabi had.

Wait, Dabi?

It was at that moment that Hawks realized that the whole time he’d been focused on the report, that something was scrubbing against his skin none too gently. He let out an involuntary whimper as the pain began to return to his body, and whatever it was that was touching him, pulled away immediately.

“Hawks?” He recognized Toga’s voice immediately, and fought to open his eyes. He was greeted by the sight of the teenager crouched in front of him, which meant that he was lying on something—or someone—from what he could figure out.

“Hi.” Hawks managed to croak. Toga’s expression of worry broke into one of her signature smiles.

“Yay! Our bird is awake!”

“He’s not a pet, idiot.” A voice from above Hawks spoke. His gaze drifted upwards to see Dabi leaning over him, and it was then that he realized he was lying on the villain’s lap. Not that he was complaining. And it wasn’t like he could move right now anyway, his body felt like it had been run over by a train. He noticed a bloodstained cloth in Dabi’s hand and figured that the man had been using it to clean Hawks’ injuries. Just how long had he been out?

“You’ve been unconscious for a few days.” Kurogiri, as attentive as ever spoke from across the room. Hawks’ gaze drifted from Dabi to the purple mist-man, only just noticing that the rest of the League was also in the room. Shigaraki was sitting in the one other chair in the room, his fingers interlaced as he studied Hawks carefully. He didn’t know what to make of that; he’d only met Shigaraki a couple of times, and both times, he’d been left feeling uncomfortable. But now, he almost figured the guy looked… protective. Spinner was watching the scene from the rafters, which Hawks knew was Spinner’s way of showing that he cared without actually getting involved, and the sudden weight on his legs told him Compress was sitting next to Dabi.

“Oh.” Was all Hawks could manage to say. He didn’t know what to say, or where to begin really, his memories of what had happened a little foggy. “I don’t… understand.”

“You got kidnapped by some lower-class villains.” Shigaraki huffed, anger tinting his voice. “We tracked down their location when they stupidly broadcast that they had you. And Dabi took it upon himself to rescue you.”

“Aww, so you do care.” Hawks crooned up at Dabi, his grin widening at the slightly pink cheeks he could see.

“I will turn you into fried chicken.” Dabi threatened, although the threat was weak, and nothing Hawks hadn’t heard before. If this had been their first meeting, he might’ve been a little worried for his life. But he’d been talking to Dabi and the rest of the League for months now. Any threat they made, was made out of love, he’d learnt.

“You love me.” Hawks teased, wincing when Dabi put the cloth back to his face. “Ow.”

“Oh, believe me, you’re lucky you were still out when we cleaned the rest of you. Those Organization X bitches really did a number on you.” Dabi said, ignoring his flinching to continue cleaning the rest of his face.

“What Dabi means.” Compress interjected. “Is that you were hurt bad, Hawks, but we’ve done what we can to treat your injuries. It will be some time before you’re recovered however.”

“But that’s okay, because we managed to get a hold of that new streaming service, so we’ll have plenty of movies to watch while you get better!” Toga cheered excitedly. Her good mood was starting to lessen the tension that filled the room.

“And just how did you manage that?” Hawks asked, willing to indulge the girl, if only to distract himself from Dabi’s ministrations.

“Giran got it for us! We stole it from some idiot!” The door to the room flung open, and Twice walked in, his balaclava hiding his face as usual, although Hawks could tell from the man’s body language that he was relieved. “Yo, Hawks, glad you didn’t die! Dabi should’ve left you to rot!”

“I’m glad to be alive too.” Hawks sighed, deciding that he’d had enough of lying down. Two sets of arms grabbed onto him, their owners both scolding him for moving, but also aiding him in sitting up. Only once he was upright did they let go, and Hawks discovered that his body just didn’t want to obey him, and he quickly slumped to the side, coming to rest against Dabi.

“Stupid bird.” Dabi muttered as he adjusted his position so that Hawks could rest against his chest and not get stabbed by bony shoulders. The flame villain’s hands moved so that one was wrapped around him, and the other was running through his hair. Along with the heat that Dabi’s body generated, Hawks let out a quiet chirp of content, his eyes blinking slowly as he relaxed.

A moment later, Hawks recalled what Compress had said to him. “Wait, how hurt was I?” How long will I be away from hero work is the better question.

“Hurt enough that the position you were just in was the only one in which you weren’t crying out in pain.” Shigaraki answered. “We’re going to find these sons of bitches and destroy them for daring to hurt you.”

Hawks was touched by Shigaraki’s words, and the murmurs of agreement that followed them, although he didn’t really want the villains that had taken him to be killed. But he figured it was a touch too late for that since Dabi had already burnt most of them. Shigaraki’s words hadn’t answered his question though, so Hawks looked over at Compress. Thankfully, the man seemed to understand what he was asking.

“Your wings took the most of the damage.” Compress began to explain. “Most of your feathers are gone, and the ones that were left were damaged. We found it best to… pluck you essentially to give them the best chance at healing. You also have a lot of lacerations that have been stitched and bandaged, and an awful amount of broken bones.” The man must’ve seen Hawks’ face drop because he was quick to give him a reassuring smile. “You will heal, Hawks. It’ll just take time. But we’ll look after you until you recover.”

Hawks took a moment to absorb Compress’ words. When the state of his wings was brought up, he wiggled them, pleased that he could move them with minimal pain. As much as he loathed the idea of being plucked like a chicken about to be cooked, he had to admit that it’d probably been the best decision at the time, especially as he recalled just how much pain he’d been in when he’d been rescued. They would take a lot longer to grow back than normal, but only because his body would be focused on healing his other injuries, but he could tell they’d regrow.

“Thank you.” Hawks said. “I appreciate that you came for me, even though you put yourselves at risk to do so.”

“We weren’t just going to leave you with those people, Hawks.” Toga whined, Twice nodding in agreement from beside her. Hawks hadn’t even noticed the man approach him. “They were hurting you, and the heroes weren’t doing anything, so we had to help!”

“They did come in the end though, didn’t they?” Hawks asked, remembering the news report.

“Yes, but a week had passed by then.” Kurogiri interjected gently. The implication was left unsaid, but Hawks understood it immediately. Organization X was well known for only keeping the heroes they took for a week before disposing of them. If it hadn’t been for Dabi and the League coming for him, Hawks would’ve been killed.

“Breathe, pretty bird.” Dabi murmured into his ear, stopping the panic before it even begun. “We got to you, so focus on that, not what could’ve been.”

Tears welled up in Hawks’ eyes, and he reached a hand up, clutching at air. Dabi quickly slotted his own hand with Hawks’ and squeezed gently. Being kind and gentle in front of other people wasn’t something Dabi was overly keen on, but Hawks appreciated him doing so for him at that moment. Through the tears, he could see the League watching him, all of them wearing looks of concern and protectiveness. A few months ago, they wouldn’t have cared what would’ve happened to him, but he’d managed to worm his way into their hearts.

“Thank you.” Hawks let a few tears fall, squeezing Dabi’s hand tightly as he fought against the urge to cry. “It’s fine.” Dabi used a thumb to brush away Hawks’ tears. “You’re our bird, and we’re not going to sit by and let anyone else hurt you.”

Quirk Mutation Part 2.

Hawks stayed unconscious for a minute before waking up. His body had taken a new form, a deadly form. Dabi only stared, unsure of what to do, let alone say. Hawks' wings doubled in size, and was now covered in red feathers. His hands now Taloned and deadly, with matching, dangerous feet. It was as if he was turned into some beast, a monster. In fact, that's what you could classify Hawks, if you saw him for the first time in his new form. Oh what would the public think... what would they think?

"Explain yourself, Hawks. What kind of trick is this? Are you trying to get a scare out of me or something?" Dabi dared, his flames growing just a bit bigger.

Hawks shook his head as he hunched over himself, uncomfortable standing straight up. His wings now out-weighing his actual body, in which if he stood straight up, he would fall over due to the weight imbalance.

"What? No! What makes you think I would do this to myself?! I don't even know what's happening to me!" Hawks cried out.

Dabi squints his eyes and puts out his flames as he approached Hawks. The hero's new form allowed him to sense the aura of others, Dabi being afraid but also curious. The fear caused Hawks' feathers to sharpen and his wings to puff up to make him look bigger. Dabi paused as he watched Hawks' body react without his consent. After a while, Hawks' body calmed down and his feathers softened, his wings stayed puffed up. Once Dabi reached Hawks, he was able to get a good look at his face. His golden eyes glowed, and his forehead was covered in tiny baby feathers. He reached a hand out to Hawks, to which he backed up instinctively.

"Calm down, I'm just trying to get a better look at what the fuck happened to you." Dabi hissed at Hawks.

Hawks let out a growl that turned into a croon when Dabi placed a hand on his cheek. His eyes widened at the noises he made, but didn't pull away as he let the villain investigate his face. Dabi's thumb moved towards Hawks' lips and raised his upper lip to see giant sharp fangs. He blinked and moved his hand away, now focused on the back of Hawks' neck. Feathers covered his neck, making it practically impossible to see any skin. It was like a blanket of red, that went all the way down his back and oh?

"Tail feathers..." Dabi noted aloud.

"What?!" Hawks squcked, causing him to immediatly cover his mouth.

It blinked at the realization then looked down. He was naked, his body covered in red feathers. His wings went to cover him as his face burned red. Dabi either didn't acknowledge the naked hero, or didn't care. Dabi went to grab one of the tail feathers, which caused them to flick in response. He backed up and got a full view of Hawks.

"Well, one thing is for sure. You can't go in public like this. Heroes might think it was some sort of drug or you got hit by some sorta quirk, which may have them target the league first. Especially since you are in contact with one of the members on the daily." Dabi dully noted as he began to walk away.

He motioned for Hawks to follow him, which he did. Hawks could sense no danger, nor any mailce with Dabi's words. His left wing covered the front of his body, while his right wing covered his back. If anyone caught a glimpse of him, he would be done for. For, he turned into a monster. A freak. Some thing to fear. All the negative thoughts clouded Hawks' mind and subconsciously let out involuntary stress noises. His chittering and squacks of distress started to get on Dabi's nerves, but he still wasn't sure was this new Hawks was capable of, so he bared the noises. A few backways and turns, and Dabi and Hawks arrived to clearing, which confused Hawks. Why were they in the open? Was Dabi trying to humiliate him? Was he going to be ambushed? No. Dabi spoke some sort of chant, and told Hawks to repeat it. He did, confused, then felt sick to his stomach. He felt something inside of him wriggle and writhe. He kneeled over as he saw black ooze like sludge incase him and Dabi. Not even a second later, both appeared in a relatively clean amd modern room. The bile taste left on Hawks' tongue.

"Where ar-"

"It's my room at the Paranomal Liberation's headquarters. You are staying here until whatver the fuck happened to you goes away. And don't say no or that you can't because it's fucking obvious you can't be seen in public." Dabi growled as he headed towards his closet.

He threw some clothes at Hawks and stayed with his back turned to him.

"Get dressed. Then after that, we are going to meet with the doctor. See what the fuck is up with your quirk and body." Dabi waited on Hawks to get ready.

Hawks grabbed the clothes and tried his best to make holes on the shirt for his wings, but without being able to detatch his feathers, and with how they doubled in size, he decided to not wear the shirt. The boxers and pants, Hawks could at least make a slit for his new tail feathers, and slipped them on. Shoes, that was another issue, so he decided on going barefoot.

"I'm done." Hawks was a bit more relaxed with now being clothed, somewhat.

Dabi turned and saw him shirtless, then remembered his quirk issue. He nodded and motioned for him to follow. Hawks did and the two walked for what seemed like hours before reaching a facility. Entering, cases of nomus in development were pushed against the walls and a short man could be seen working at a desk.

"Hey doc, I got a case you might want to see."

The doctor turned and got a good glimpse of the new Hawks. He blinked a bit before adjusting his glasses and getting up. He examined Hawks and did a few physical tests along with asking what happened. The doctor nodded and listened.

"Have you ever heard of quirk awakenings, boy?" The doctor asked as he turned to his desk to grab a pen and pad.

Hawks has heard and seen quirk awakenings happen, but on a mutant type quirk? He never heard such a thing. He nodded.

"Well see it this way, your body went under some sort is distress where it felt the need to transform. Though in your case, you should have been dead when it happened. You see, quirks are an extension of the body, mutant or heteromorph quirks, aren't the same. They aren't an extension of the body, but rather part of the body or the body itself. In your case, however your mutation quirk isn't like normal mutations. So when your body undergone the transformation, not only did it strengthen your quirk, but it strengthened your body as well. As for not being able to telepathically detach your feathers anymore, your body seemed to remove unnessecary aspects of your quirk while keeping the important aspects." The doctor explained.

Hawks blinked as he soaked in all the newfound knowledge.

"So my body won't revert itself." Hawks stated more than questioned.

"Correct. The only thing you can do moving forward, is determine what you are going to do. Are you going to hide away, or continue being a hero? Maybe you will see a new perspective of how people may treat you now that you have transformed." The doctor wrote down some things on his notepad before setting it down and moving towards the two.

"My advice is test what you can and can't do before making another public appearance. You may be a hero, but you are also a member of the Paranormal Liberation Front, and therefore will be treated like one. You stand for our cause, and maybe this new transformation will help you understand that cause even more." The doctor smiled as he ushered the two men out of his lab.

Once out, Hawks blinked, and began walking, Dabi close behind. After making it back to Dabi's room, undetected by any other members, Hawks sat on the recliner and let his wing sink to the ground. He could sense Dabi's unease and never-ending want of questions, and turned to face him.

"Yes?" He asked Dabi, as he adjusted himself to compensate for his tail feathers.

"You gonna do what the doc says? Or are you just going to waltz into action, risking your life not knowing what your capable of?" Dabi went to lay on his bed and stared at the ceiling.

Hawks turned his attention to his talons and flexed his hand. He had no idea what this new body was capable of, and he needed to find out before he reappeared in the public.

"Got any spare nomus you aren't using?"

C.Hawks: Avoiding fans and just trying to get home can be really tiresome.

F.Hawks: Why avoid them? I love my fans!

C.Hawks: I love my fans too, but after a long day, all i want to do is relax and drink a nice cup of coffee.

F.Hawks: Then go to a cafe.

C.Hawks: Even at a cafe, I'd still be recognized and pestered.

F.Hawks: Aren't you supposed to be an optomist?

C.Hawks: Jeez, sorry for wanting time to myself and not spend my entire life wearing a mask to please the public.

F.Hawks: Okay okay, point taken.

I love to think that the Hawks fandom has ignored Hawks' real dad as his dad, and sees Sleepwalkersqueen's version, Takami the Thief, as his real dad. Why? Because, his real dad isn't all that impressive of a villain/criminal to be that grand of news for when Hawks dad and real name get leaked by Dabi. But like, imagine? Oh no! Infamous Takami the Thief is Hawks' dad? We should really fear him! He is a bigger threat than we assumed! How dare he be a hero!? How dare he try to make up for the crimes of his father by trying to be a good person!?

It just makes more sense? Like... It would make the story way more interesting. Plus, Shinyo? Ngl, kinda hot. Canon dad? Pretty meh. Like theres no way Hawks got his looks from his mom and dad, it just doesnt add up! (I mean it does, but still, his dad ain't pretty.)

Anyways, that's just me.

I've been sick this past week so I decided to write some Hawks fluff. Slightly self indulgent.

Hawks when he notices your sick

It was only 7 in the morning when Hawks was getting ready for work. You were still asleep in bed, which Hawks found odd. Normally you would have been awake by now, but today you were still under the covers, your body slightly shaking. Hawks walked over to you and took in your features, mouth slightly agape as your lips were reddened, skin pale. He took off his glove and felt the top of your head, you were burning up. He frowned slightly before looking at his watch, he still had time. He decided to fly out to the local convenient store and buy a few items then came back home to drop the items off. He laid a kiss a top your forehead before flying off to work.

An hour or so later, you finally wake up, hot and feverish as you blink the sleep away. A chest hurting cought erupted from your throat as you groan in discontent. Looking around you find the room empty and cold, but on the nightstand next to you, you spot a glass of water, a bag, and a note. You pick up the note and read it over, 'Got you some things to combat your sickness, get well soon! -H.' You place the note down and pick up the bag, searching its contents. Some pills, most likely Ibuprofen or Tylenol, a few cans of different soups, and different types of tea. You smiled at the gesture and opened the bottle of pills. You popped two in your mouth and took a sip of water to wash them down. You decided to go about your day normally, every so often taking medicine or making tea. A cold shower helping reduce the fever and you ultimately feeling better.

The sun had finished setting when the front door opens, a voice calling out.

"I'm home!" Hawks' voice rang out.

You turned to greet him, a bowl of soup in hand as you were making your way to the table. Hawks closed the door and took off his boots as he came by to check your temperature. Your fever had gone down greatly, but you still didn't feel 100%. He gave you a sad smile as he sighed, taking a seat by you at the table.

"Feeling better?" He asked.

"I am thanks to you." You commented.

He smiled and took the spoon away from you, feeding you instead. The rest of the night, he dedicated his time taking care of you and treating your sickness. The following morning you woke up before him, as per usual, and worked on making breakfast. A bit of time going by before he woke up and greeted you, sleep still fresh on his face. You greeted him back, a smile on your face, and you feeling way better than yesterday. He seemed to notice, and perked up at your cheery mood. He set up the table and waited, both of you enjoying breakfast together and ready to start your day.

I probably will leave my current fanfic as complete since I lost my inspiration for the fic, and I don't have the time to work on chapters due to irl things.. Though I may post more works throughout the year. Probably one-shots and short stories. But I won't write another fic until I have the time once more.

So we all know that Canon Hawks loves sweet coffee yeah?

But like, why?

Here is my theory.

We know as a kid, Hawks was neglected and would more than likely go days without food. Meaning anything he has had, would more than likely be bitter or stale. That is, until he gets taken by the commission. We know they trained him since he was young, and so what do kids love? Sweets! I can only assume they rewarded him with treats and candy whenever he did well, and once he was old enough, he would drink coffee to stay awake. Though when he first had it, they gave it to him black and without sugar. I would like to think that he is reminded of his childhood by the bitter taste it leaves, and he flat out rejects it. So the commission makes him sweet coffee, and he is in love. From then on, he only ever drank sweet sugary coffee because he would be reminded of how good of a job he did, or that he is no longer the sad little kid he used to be.

When Skeptic points out that Hawks freaked out when he almost got black coffee, it just points out more how much he hates the bitter taste it brings into his mouth. And any time we see Hawks eat or drink, it's usually savory or sweet foods, never bitter and salty foods.

Hawks, sweet tooth? Developed.

It's like that one meme.

*Hawks drinks coffee*

Hawks: It's like a reward.

Hot take:

Hawks actually likes modelling and it was something he chose to do as a side gig. Commission didn't force him to become one, and he just like to do it because he gets to wear all the shinies and enjoys the benefits of being one.

"Oh, hey you gotta work with this model today ajd are going to do a photoshoot advertising the new line of clothing coming out."

Hawks? He loves it, because not only does he get to socialize with others, he also has the ability to wear something he never thought he would ever get to wear.

He is also recognized as more than a hero on the streets. He is seen as, 'oh, doesn't he also model?, Yeah! I've seen some of the work he has done and it is a must see. We should get an autograph! Totally!'

But, Alex, doesn't he like being a hero? Isn't that his dream? Why would he not like being a hero?-

SHADAPP

Of course he loves being a hero. Except he isn't a hero to himself. He is a soldier molded by the commission to do the dirty work that would make most other heroes quit on the spot, if they had to do what Hawks did. He has no privacy, and prefers to keep to himself unless neccessary. Even though the commission is doing things in the background to deal with villains, he still is needed to take care of other things, other heroes would see as unethical. And it is. A hero should never ignore his duties, even if it ia to gain the trust of villains. That wouldn't show you sympathize with their cause, it just shows that you don't care about being a real hero and only care for the fame it gives you. Which is the opposite of what Hawks truely believes in. Hawks wants to be a hero, but he wants to be his own hero. Not a hero made to keep an image and make the public think he is what he isn't.

So yeah. He likes modeling. It's his little escape from reality.

"Hawks has small ankles."

I mean, yeah? He flies everywhere, and it's even stated that he is rarely on the ground. Man doesn't walk much, but even then, he still is very fast in the air and on foot.

Omg, but couldn't you imagine when he finally crosses a dead bird fic? Omg, he would get off the internet for the rest of the week.

Toga introducing Hawks to fanfiction and while he's settled down and looking at his phone he asks "why would someone feel the need to tag that there's dead birds in the fic? Is it because I'm in it and have bird traits?" And there's just a moment of silence while everyone realizes what he means by tagging about dead birds and then Dabi just takes the phone from him and says nothing.

Ur fic were hawks helping y/n with the grocery! I see nothing but hawks not getting out of the 'brother zone'😂 poor hawks hahahaha

That's actually the premise of it! The fic was to give more brotherly vibes rather than lover vibes. While a majority of people prefer seeing Hawks as a partner/lover/FWB, I wanted to write something that has the reader see Hawks as more of a brother. Like when you have a friend who acts more like family and is so incorporated into your life that you forget they are a friend. I like to see it as big brother Hawks, who is still goofy and loving towards the reader, while also worrysome of the reader who tries to do everything themselves.

Hawks is more than a hero and a comfort character. Hawks is family. If you don't think so, then... Okay.

I wanna here your opinion on this

I honestly think Hawks is kinda weird and I know it's probably due to the way he was brought up. But he got those weird little quirks that makes you think like "oh that's not a normal thing."

Idk maybe I'm reading to much into it. Like I personally think his real smile is more awkward. Like when he smiled at Twice or when he was smiling/talking to lady nagant.

I think the stuff he does like saying "I'm home" at an empty apartment (that not even his) and thinks calling an empty supply closet (or was it a studio apartment?) a home seems kinda weird and sad.

I kinda wonder what weird things he does in a relationship and thinks to himself "ah yes, doing this in a relationship is definitely normal human behavior." Like maybe he knows a little bit too much about his S/O just to impress them but it comes off weird.

S/O: I love this (*insert interest*) it's so cool

Hawks: oh you mean that (*goes on a ramble about said interest and about other things his (S/O) likes*)

S/O: how did you know that, I never told you that before.

Hawks: I-...

He's conically nosey too so he'll definitely love to here about the latest drama/tea his S/O has.

We can all agree, Hawks is a bit weird. But we love him for that. Like, imagine being normal? So boring! And yes, some things Hawks does, isn't the "human norm". And to be honest, Hawks isn't normal. He grew up in a poor household, was neglected. Then was sold off to the commission, in which, AS A CHILD, trained day-in and day-out to become the perfect soldier, or in his brain, "a hero". Then when we see how he acts during the hero rankings, he is outright bored, and is able to read the room quite well. The event mainly brings small comfort to the people, but everyone is still on edge after All Might retires, and rather than letting the population give in to false hope, he gives a speech on why everything the other 7 are saying is bullshit. Basically calling them all out. I say 7 because, Jeanist isnt there, Hawks hadn't said anything just yet, and Endeavor still hadn't gone.

Hawks, IMO, is a realist. Doesn't care about false hopes, or pretty little lies to keep everyone safe and comfortable. He is aware of his own weaknesses, and works to improve himself along with keeping the population safe. Hell, when he talks to twice about the commission, he speaks the truth on how he feels. Hawks feels a connection with Twice, and truely wants to save him rather than what the commission wants him to do.

When he talks to Lady Nagant, he can be truthful with her and even through all the hell he has been through, he still smiles because as he said, he is an optomist. Hawks, after his fight with Dabi, and unable to speak for a long period, his first words, are about him no longer being caged and no one holding him down. He is free to do what he wants, and what does he do? HE CONTINUES TO BE A HERO! He commits to what he has wanted to be since he was a child! And this time, he can do what he wants!

Now, with having a significant other, if ever. Hawks would be the nosey type, he always has been nosey. However, Hawks also is a master in the arts of acting. He knows how to play the part, and would do what he can to take care of his partner. Hawks wouldn't seem like the type to pursue someone who is clingy, but perhaps someone who can take care of themselves quite fine and just with him for companionship and comfort. Someone who isn't in Hawks space all the time, would make it easier for him, and in fact would give him a reason to not be as skeptical and nosey. He would gain more trust in his partner.

Hawks is goofy, funny, serious when he needs to be, stupidly smart, fast, and powerful. He complains that he isn't strong and is useless against power types, but Hawks is strong in other ways. And we love him for that.

I Wanna Here Your Opinion On This
