do you ever just sit there and think about peeta and katniss before the hunger games? just imagining him watching him from afar to the point at which he's memorised every feature of hers, him trying to have crushes on other girls and then seeing her again and realising it's a lost cause, him watching from behind his father during early mornings at the bakery to catch a glimpse of her trading with him, watching prim drag her over to look at the cakes-

and her doing the same thing without realising it: she knew that he was second place in the school wrestling competition off the top of her head. she said she had seen him in the market lifting flour and just think about that- her watching the boy who saved her life, wanting to talk to him in the corridors, paying close enough attention to catch him watching her but never risking talking to him

peeta said that she didn't pay attention to him before the games and that just wasn't true.

she says that "this would have happened anyway", and i'm fully convinced that it would have. they'd have talked to each other eventually if they weren't reaped and it'd just be impossible for katniss not to fall for him because she was a little bit in love with him before the series even began
